Nom-Con is on this Friday-Sunday and is host to a decent amount of FG tournaments.
It's taking place in the D4 Hotel out at Lansdown Road. Map here.
Entry to the convention is €20 per day, or €35 for a weekend pass.
I'm not sure if there's an additional charge to enter to tournaments, but if it follows Eirtakon's set up from last year, there wont be.(Well, they had a €1 deposit for those tourneys I suppose)All tournaments are being run on PS3s, aside from Brawl obviously.

    Friday:

    Smash Bros. Brawl: 1600-1700

    Saturday:
    Tekken 6: 1000-1200
    BlazBlue: 1600-1800

    Sunday:
    Super street Fighter 4: 1100-1300

Are many of yee planning on attending?

    So...is that BBCS or BBCT?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Sairus

I asked that on the forum today and m waiting on a response. It's down as "Blaze Blue" on the time table, so I'm assuming they dont know about CS yet =D

    Seems a bit expensive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭chunkis

Yeah i don`t see the point in spending 20 quid to get into this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Orim

It's not a fighting game event which naturally causes issues for those of us that would be just going for the tournaments.

It's a fair price if you're into the anime and durty, durty, underage cosplayers.

Also looking at the schedule there's only 2 hours for each tournament.

Also looking at the schedule there's only 2 hours for each tournament.
I imagine they'll just be single game knockout toruneys so the turnover will be pretty quick. (Again, purely based on Eirtakon last year)
From what I gather these aren't run by actual FG enthusiasts, so it'll just be more of a throw a bunch of gamers in a room and let them play sort of thing.
I wouldn't go to Nom-Con purely to enter these tournaments, I severly doubt they'll be worth it. However, if you're interested in going to an anime convention and enter some tournaments while you're there, Nom-Con is for you!

I'll pop along for the SF if it doesn't clash with anything that I wanna watch :)

I'm getting dragged to this anyway so I'll more than likely be hiding at the FGs all weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 955 ✭✭✭GorySnake

5 year olds probably shouldn't be allowed near anime cons at all, could cause irreparable damage. :pac:

Just to note that all tournaments are indeed single game elimination and that it is Calamity Trigger in use.

    Double post, boo hiss, etc.

Just though I'd add that if anyone coming has CS I think we'd get away with running casuals.

I'd certainly welcome any CS practice I can get(bonus points for a Mu save).

Good craic and the Fighting Games Forum owned BlazBlue. Tekken...well not so much. Lag on the TV was insane too...

    ...

    Or so Kiki says.

She didn't even win a round! It was glorious.

Also, highlight of the day: Doing two consecutive throws in SSFIV and having my opponent and the group watching all start booing and hissing at me.

Two tournaments won in one weekend in 2 different counties.

    I'm happy with that.

Tell me you attempted a third but he dodged, and I'll thank the post.

It's official - I am the undisputed master of ****ty draws (for SSF4 at least). :pac:

Q-con - 1st match: Guile mirror vs Doom (who finishes 2nd)

Dramatic Battle - 1st match: Guile mirror vs The Truth (who finishes 1st)

Nomcon - 1st match: Guile mirror vs Doom (who finishes 1st)

I might keep entering stuff (and picking Guile) though, it'll be funny to see how long I can keep this up.

Had some decent BB matches and t'was nice to meet a couple more boardsies in person. Missed the signups for Tekken, but everyone appeared to be button mashing anyway (the lag on the TV might have had a hand in that though).

Don't recall seeing Kiki around on Sunday - He didn't get arrested after the J-pop disco or anything did he?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Sairus

Feckin random players showing up out of nowhere and leaving minutes after the tournament stealing my titles. We put your prize into Kiki's bag of stuff, so get that off him!

I guess the important thing is that I maintained my tradition of knocking Xinkai out of the SF tournament.

He didn't quite dodge the third. Or the fourth.

Tell me the truth -- you would've come to my jail cell to congratulate me, right? :D

Also, I'm pretty sure I would've won Tekken (bunch a scrubs), except I couldn't block worth sh*t due to the MASSIVE input lag (I'd say at least 1 second...)
