    Hi Guys

Is anyone a member of Jackie Skelly in Applewood

I've searched all the threads here about JS but id like to know about the applewood gym in particular.

I know there is a long cancellation process which is fine once i am aware of it, but for members there, what do you think of it? What currently is the membership fees?

I know there are other gyms in swords but this one I can walk to from my house.

I'm going to go for a look at it this weekend - not bring my wallet (which was advised on another thread as they try to get you to sign up there and then)

If anyone here is a member in the applewood gym could you please let me know how you find it. Thanks

I'm a member there for 5 years. I think it's fine. As clean as any other gym, good range of cardio machines. I've heard the free weights are not fantastic but there's plenty of dumbbells and weight machines. The staff are a little thin on the ground but the ones I have training experience with are excellent. It's about to undergo massive renovation and re-brand as Energie. They're allegedly re-decorating, replacing almost all machines, etc. Afaik, the current fees are €390 basic but I don't know about joining fees. There may well be some re-launch offers next month. One downside for me is the huge amount of kids swimming lessons, which means I'm far less likely to use the pool and they're in the changing rooms all the time. There's enough parking and its opening hours are good (6 - 10 on weekdays; 9 - 6 at weekends).

    Hi pinkypinky

Thanks so much for your reply. The down sides wont be an issue for me as I dont plan on swimming / using the pool.

Their website states no joining fee so that's grand.

When you do a quick goolge you get to a site where to people claim the changing rooms are dirty, thanks for confirming this isnt the case.

Is it packed at peak times 6pm ish?

I can't speak for the men's changing rooms, but I think public changing rooms will never be as clean as someone's house. There's always cleaners on duty and they do a reasonable job.

6pm is a busy time - it's not mad. Because it's suburban, I'd say the peak time is about an hour later. It wouldn't be jammed and I've never had to queue for a machine but it's fairly busy.

I used to be a member at this gym, but transferred to Park West when i moved. I never had a problem with the Swords one, the changing rooms were fine with me. The gym is always being cleaned and theres always a member of staff around, which the same cannot be said for the Park West one.
The equipment isnt new, but everything is getting updated, so heres hoping.
