I'm doing my masters this year and hadn't planned on going out a lot, but I think I might have to make some sacrifices in the first week for Freshers

    Hear, hear.
It shouldn't just be the Freshers that have fun.

I say the Freshers should invite us and we'll show them how to party! ;)

I might wear a Boards.ie tee-shirt with username on it, just to say hello to our online friends and DIT Noobs. :)

    Monday, 20th September – 80's Party Night @ dTwo

    Doors @ 10pm
    Tickets: €5

We begin on Monday September 20th with a bit of a retro feel. How does an 80s Night sound? Don your afros, flares and ludicrous shirts for a night filled with 80s classics, courtesy of our resident DJs and an 80s Party Band 'Jungle Boogie'. I know most of you were born in the 90s, but hey, the 80s is less of a decade and more of a state of mind, man!

Tuesday, 21st September – Paint Party @ TBA

    Doors @ TBC
    Tickets: €5

Tuesday night sees the return of the Paint Party. Talk to other years above ye. This is a night that is still spoken about in hushed, awed whispers amongst DIT students. Last year, we packed out The Big Tree for one of the best, craziest, messiest nights that DITSU has ever seen! We’re bringing it back for Freshers’ Week 2010 because we love ye that much. This event sold out within a day and a half last year – we guarantee that it’s going to sell out quicker this time!

Wednesday, 22nd September – Townies -v- Culchies Silent Disco @ Dandelion

    Doors @ 10pm
    Tickets: €5

Wednesday night is a spectacle like no other. We were thinking a VIP Night, you know, shirts and skirts, cocktails, red carpet, all that jazz. But then someone suggested a Farmers’ Ball, with all the wellies, tractors and hay you can handle…what to do? Well, being the resourceful types that we are, we stuck both of these ideas into a big mixing vat and came up with a Townies vs. Culchies Silent Disco! Country men and women – be decked out in the finest tweed and wellies that money can buy! City slickers – your best bib and tucker is the only thing that’ll do! We’re talking shirts, suits, cocktails dress, all that shebang! In the words of the immortal Barney Stinson – SUIT UP!

Thursday, 23rd September – Freshers' Foam Party @ TBA

    Doors @ TBC
    Tickets: €5

Thursday will see things getting a bit wetter and wilder with a Foam Party especially for all of our newcomers. Our lads will be hitting the decks as you all get soaked in foam – but sure all in the name of good fun, am I right? Dress to destroy – you won’t get much use out of your outfit after this one! Keep an eye out for confirmation of the venue...

Friday, 24th September – Culture Night

Friday night is Dublin Night of Culture and there are some amazing events going on throughout the city. It's a great night to get out and about and learn a bit about all the good stuff your home for the next few years has got going on.

There are all sorts of wonderful places staying open late and hundreds of free events and performances and it's all for FREE. Check it all out at www.culturenight.ie

Tuesday, 28th September – Freshers' Ball @ THE WRIGHT VENUE

    Doors @ TBC
    Tickets: € TBA

That’s only week one of the Freshers’ Week madness that we have in store for all of you wonderful peeps. The Freshers’ Ball takes place on Tuesday September 28th in a super-secret location that we can’t reveal to you (yet) with an epic line-up that’s a secret (for now). I know it’s frustrating that we’re keeping it all under wraps, but trust me – it’ll be worth it! The Wright Venue

JUST ANNOUNCED: Delorentos, Walter Mitty and the Realists, TKO & Superblondes will play at this years Freshers' Ball. More acts and venue TBA...

I'm definitely going to the ball anyway.

There was only a Monday to Wednesday fresher's week. One was a comedy night, one was a sham in Break for the Border and one was the Fresher's Ball in the Academy. The Blizzards played

Jeez, Brezzie and the boys. Some line-up!

FIGHT LIKE APES CONFIRMED AS HEADLINERS
Yup, I forgot to mention that earlier.

ok for anybody who wasnt there last year make sure you get a ticket to the paint party, it was one of the best nights out all year. notice how the venue is still 'TBC', thats because nowhere will have DIT after last year. the big tree was closed for months after that party.

why are DIT having their ball in the wrights venue? it is miles away. i thought DIT was all about the 'city campus' crap, at least it will be able to fit more people then the academy last year.

im kinda sad there is no 'freak show' this year because that was just amazing, there was so much blood!

Venue isn't TBC any more, it's in Break for the Border. Where we had a paint party there last year and it was awesome!(not for freshers...might've been SHAG or RAG week, can't recall)

Also they're providing transport for the freshers ball! :D

I know one thing about it: It's intense. So go there. Even if you're 2 or 3 or more months underage.

The security guard might not let you into some venues, but so what? The nastiest thing he can do is tell you not to go! If you behave, he won't do anything to you. It's not the end of the world. There are plenty of other things to do apart from drinking.

Let the freshers week take you to an interesting experience, but hopefully not a hospital ;)

I'm fairly sure that's some inaccurate advice right there to some first years, perhaps not used to going to events in clubs in Dublin. Almost all clubs ID everyone on principal, almost all will only accept either your Age Card or Passport. Student ID is basically unacceptable to get in anywhere.

So basically what you're saying is that since I'm not 18 till next May, my first year experience is gonna be one full of rejection ?

well what did you expect? its not like bouncers are suddenly going to let you into pubs and clubs just because you are in college. the law is that you have to be over 18 not in a third level course.

Like do you have to go to DIT?
I know for the freshers ball tat you hav to go to DIT But what about the other parties during the week?

You can buy tickets for others for the rest of the events in local SU centres.
Not sure how many is the limit, but certainly you can buy some for others.

Well, you can always take your chances, like you would going to any pub at 17 years of age... But you just have to be not surprised if you get asked for ID and not let in.

At the student gigs bouncers will always be on a bit of an id checking buzz 'cos the owners of the club/pub will know it is highly likely underage people will be trying to get in...

Yeah I suppose you're right, would they usually ID everyone regardless of how old you look?
Because I've got into local places before without the need for it

Well they're both gonna be epic, but I can imagine the paint party will be the more popular after the ones we had last year! Still, the foam party is on Arthur's night, so being guaranteed to get in with a ticket is a big plus, and foam parties generally kick ass across the board!

...I know i'm really not helping here, but they're both gonna be epic, so I don't think it'll matter cos you'll have a great night either way!:D

Quite honestly, if you have an opportunity to get a ticket, do!
That's the night that WILL sell out fast, and may well pack out the club very early!

Walk down from Aungier St and take a right before George's St. It's on the right hand side of the road.
