    Hi,

I heard that there is a faith healer in Gort in Co. Galway. I was told he was a butcher by trade, and has healing events once a week.

Does anyone know about this guy, and can you pass me on details of how I could reach this guy.

    Many thanks!

Ya if your Coming from Galway go through the square, theres a railway track crossing over the road about 200 mrs after the square. The butcher shop he runs is about 50 mts on the right ( the Limerick side of the railway bridge)
I know he has a session now 10 am Wednesday morning because I'm now in the waiting room NOW , which is located beside the butcher shop ( a White door : it must be his house???? )
I haven't a clue what to expect and I found out about him through a friend.
    Hope this helps.
    Ollie

Ok first of all I have to say I'm the biggest sceptic there is, as regards faith healers ect. But having said that all I can say is I have no pain today.
Whether it's anything this guy (Gerry ) did, who knows?
The bottom line for me is I'm pain free and I choose not to think about the witchdoctor stuff!

    Hi,

I forgot I submitted this thread a while back. To update you I went to visit him.

I had a painful shoulder. Went to my doc and he said it was rotator cuff (which is a painful tear in tendons which prevented me from lifting/using my arm).

Anyway, the doc said it was a severe injury and I would need surgery. I decided, what the heck, I have nothing to loose with this guy in Gort. I didn't have to make an appointment. He has a house and one of the rooms is an open waiting room - ya just show up. The other room is where he 'heals' people. I went early (about 8am) and waited for about an hour. I was seen to and he took me in the room. Played around with my arm and shoulder. Bit painful, but it was bearable....

He finished with me after 10 mins and said I was good to go and to rest it for a few days. Ya can throw him a small donation. 2-3 days later I could lift it and was back to normal. No surgery required. No compalins since I last posted the discussion above.

Im not trying to influence anyone here - all I can say is that it worked for me. Happy days.

    Hope this helps?

[PS Apologies for spelling errors - Im writing this as I rush out the door]

I am sure he gets an odd tip,if faith healers could cure back trouble then there is no reason why they could not cure more serious problems.

They are just frauds, preying on people.

So let me get this straight, you had a damaged shoulder which a trained medical professional said would only be healed with surgery, yet after 10mins of moving it around you are now healed?

    I'm sorry, I ain't buying that nonsense.

Can you elaborate on what this guy did for the 10min you were with him?

if its worked for some people then whats the harm in trying it?

But its not what the faith healer is doing thats healing people. It can't be, unless you believe in such nonsense.

The people are probably taking medicines too, getting physio, changing something in their lives, but its not the faith healer doing any good.

you seem pretty sure of that...if the person feels it worked for them then that's all that really counts ..

If it works for a person and isn't causing any further medical conditions and it doesn't cause any current medical conditions to get worse then leave them too it.

N.B. - This is not to be taken as medical advice, it's my own personal opinion.

For the record I don't buy the 'faith healer' thing, but I do understand the power of the brain. I've read many a studies where someone has pain in a certain location of their body and no drugs or surgery could help, this was down to the pain not being physical but it was in the persons head, and if someone believes enough in a certain non medical task that has cleared up their pain then let them, its what works for them.

The clear line to draw here is that it wasn't the 'healer' that cured the pain but the person's belief in the 'healer' that helped the person get rid of the psychological cause of the pain.

The same people would go into hospital for cancer treatment, get the best of drugs and medicines, care by nurses, doctors and specialists, find they recover and then attribute their improved health to praying to a god, people lighting a candle for them or a plastic medal handed down from their great granny.

Yep - basically how faith healers work, Derren Brown has done similar
Convince someone they have no pain etc and if they believe you then job done.
Doesn't cure anything but could make things worse as pain is there to tell you something is wrong except in some case where it's nerve damage and nothing can be done.

Dead on,praying is harmless but a total waste of time, preying on the other hand by ruthless people on the vunerable is the lowest of the low.

Yet many do not recover? So the medical aspect is not reliable.

Everybody does not get cured by conventional medicine, but nobody gets cured if they rely on mumbo jumbo!

    Faith is not mj.

Healings happen and are well documented. So your statement is invalid ;)

‘Getting betters’ happen. They are documented. The ‘healing’ aapect is down to the faith credulity of those who would describe it as such.

    Anecdote ≠ evidence.
