hi - im a long term reader but ave finally decided to join.

my problem im a 18 year old 5 foot male and am very heavy. Im about 17 stone.

I am back to university in October and want to loose weight and hopefully build some muscle. I drink and eat a lot of junk food and takeaways - I think i comfort eat.

I want to loose weight and build muscle but do not want to join a gym as I am too self concious.

Can anybody recommend some equipment - something small that can be posted and discretely as I dont want landlady (DIGS) knowing what is being delivered as SHE will have to sign for it.

also can anyone recommend a diet or what foods i should eat spcifically what foods eg apples, mince meat etc as i dont uderstand certain things like protein etc.

I also have big man boobs so how do i get rid of these. IS THERE ANY SUPPLEMENTS I SHOULD TAKE ALSO TO HELP AL THIS:D

So what exerices should i do and how do i do these exercises. i hope that i would not need much eqipment eg just a skipping rope and i small weight.

    please help me :(

Forget about been too self conscious for the gym. No one in there gives a sh!t. Just join one, get a good routine from a trainer or one of the more experienced members of the forum and stick with it. You will see massive (and I mean massive) improvements in a very short space of time. Dropping the first few stone will be the easy part; then you can worry about getting into good physical shape.

There's no magic equipment or diet. If I was you, I'd do pushups and go running. If you can't do pushups or run, then I'd do the best pushups I could on my knees and I'd go walking.
Do it everyday, and everyday do more than the last day.

Don't you get gym membership with college? Or you might get a discounted price off the gym for being a student? I know you said you don't want to join a gym but everyone else is at the gym for the same reasons as you so people won't judge you.

Wow i wish i had heard these words of wisdom when i was younger.

Pop into argos and buy a cheap dumbbell set. Dumbbells and youtube can provide you with countless excercises that you can do in the comfort of your own room.

    With dumbbells you could

    Chest
    Floor press
    flyes from floor

    Shoulders
    Single arm shoulder press
    shoulder Side raises
    shoulder front raises

    Back
Dumbbell Rows, using a chair for support

    Arms
    bicep curls
    skull crushers
    tate press

    Legs
bodyweight Squats, at first you could simply sit back onto a chair then stand up and repeat this

The following list could be easily done in your bedroom, then afterwards just hop in the shower. Argos always have good deals on dumbbell sets, plus there not to clumpy or awkard and can be placed in a backpack, so its no one elses business what you bring into your room.

Youtube has a lot of rubbish on it, but there are some great sites which will show you examples of the above excercises.

Where abouts will you be going to college? dublin? galway?

Cut out junk food, take away and anything like that and start doing basic exercise and the weight will start to fall off..

I have lost 3 stone over last 3 months, and its really as simple as that, cut out eating rubbish, eat more fruit and veg and exercise more. There is no magic pill, its all common sense..

    I'd advise:
    - Don't eat any junk food. If you eat junk then you will be wasting your time and won't see much of a difference.
    - Get a pair of runners, shorts, a top and an MP3 and run. A lot.
    - To train in your own rooom or whatever try a Kettlebell. http://www.buykettlebellsdublin.com
    - Try not to be self concious. Man up, as they say, and just get stuck into it. Nobody in a gym cares what anyone else is at and if they do, just ignore them, put the tunes on and get in and out.

To get what you want you are going to need to get out of your comfort zone and just get stuck into it. Far more knowledgeable people than me will probably give you advice on this thread so just listen to what they say and get started.

    Good luck!
