No motivation for any training

I have played soccer competitively since i was 7 and now i am 27 and gave it up this year becuase i dont want to commit the weekends anymore to it as i currently live in dublin but not originally from there and dont want to be tied to dublin every weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on how i should fill my time during the week as motivation is my main problem as i have no interest in going to the gym (i tried it and lost interest after a month). i did try 5 aside football as well but the standard was not great and i didnt enjoy it at all. I still want to stay fit but i cant seem to find the inspiration to actually train. I suppose i have no goal and cant see the potential benefit to any training i might do. Anyone have any advice or felt like this before.

A running club? Most do two 2 midweek sessions & one at weekends.

You're a sportsman so you want some sort of competitive edge to whatever you do. I think anyone who has competed knows what you're on about. Try looking up midweek sports like boxing, martial arts, tennis... stuff you can do and learn without giving up your weekends.

Have to agree with Barry above.

I'm finding myself in the same position, an injured ankle has kept me out of Judo training since early June & since then I'm finding I've to dig in deep to find motivation to train.

It seems like unless I'm preparing to compete there's really no point (I've put on 10kgs too, which further dents the ego).

Anyway, you went to the gym and didn't like it - would you consider an alternative to 'the gym', 'Cross Fit' is hugely popular here on this forum.

Or, I've a mate just like you. Played a decent level of Gaelic football until moving to Dublin, found himself in the doldrums and went to one of these 'boot camp' training groups - and has just done his first marathon!.

Or there I say it, Barry's (above) gym in Glasnevin. I've never trained in it, but heard only good things said about it - He can tell you more if he wants, but its not the 'leisure center' type gym, so you might find them a good alternative.

There ya go, just a few alternative suggestions for ya.

ya exactly the same, dont have any interest in training unless i have a goal and need to compete competively or i dont see the point. ill google crossfit i think.

i know the feeling exactly, always played at a good standard of football since i was 7, then when i was 23 i moved to england for work where i gave up football. 2 years on, and dying to get fit especially as iv put on weight. like the lads said above, its the lack of competition that makes goin to the gym, or goin for jogs soooo boring!!

Because of work, i cant play at weekends, so iv looked at midweek sports, like the running clubs and so on. what iv realised is i miss the banter at training also, and when ur training on your own, you dont have the banter to take your mind off the bleep tests or the endless running!!!

what iv done, is taken a recent picture of myself that i didnt like cuz of the weight iv put on, put it in my room so i see it when i wake up, and started training for a marathon, i tell ye, it works!!

i would also suggest sticking with a bit of asto, even thought the standard is often poor, its still playin a bit of ball, with a bit of banter!!
