I'll get excited when funding is officially ratified for it.

The latest News on this is that crew training for the stiil to be approved STS-135 will begin in September.

It will carry a Packed to the gills Multi Puropse Logistic Module as well as a light weight multipurpose carrier.

It will bring the Failed Amonia pump assemby back to Earth for study.
lets hope they are not just living in hope waiting for House Senate and Obama to spare them a thought!

If it goes ahead NASA has put in a so called change request to Launch it on June 28th 2011[that's if they have any trained staff left to launch it:rolleyes:]

Getting nearer to getting the required funding for this. Still needs Obamas signature though.

No surprise there tbh. I often wonder what his real agenda is,it's certainly not NASA's future or the future of spaceflight and exploration!

Was thinking of going to San Francisco next May, might put off to June and stopover in Florida on the way back. Bitten by the bug the last time!

It'll be some craic trying to get tickets. Even the normally reliable Gray Line Tours sold out of STS-133 tickets within a few minutes. Last launch will be a nightmare to get tickets for!

Resigned myself to that. I got tickets from them for 132. Would be waste to in the country, heading back East and not stopover.

since You appointed Augustine just after Your Inauguration.
NASA authorization bill (not) to be signed today

    October 7, 2010 at 6:31 am · Filed under ,NASA,Congress,Whitehouse
[Update: apparently the president won't be signing the bill today; it's not listed on his schedule for the day (although other bill signings are) and the bill is still listed under pending legislation on the White House web site.]
According to a media advisory released late yesterday by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, President Obama is expected to sign s3789, the NASA authorization bill, into law today. (Hutchison is planning a press conference Thursday afternoon at Space Center Houston with Reps. Pete Olson and Gene Green to discuss the bill.) The signing, of course, is expected, but it does start the clock on a number of reports and studies called for in the bill, such as one in section 403 that requires NASA to “develop and make available to the public detailed human rating processes and requirements” for commercial crew systems in 60 days, and reports due in 120 days on NASA launch support and infrastructure modernization as well as assessment of the shuttle’s retirement and planned HLV system on the nation’s solid rocket motor and liquid propulsion industrial base.

Just listening in to an audoicast from NASA,involving Bolden,Ride,Senator Nelson and others.
Safe to finally say Obama will sign this bill today and 135 is a definate.(He had to sign it by midnight tuesday or it would have been pocket vetoed.)

The bill with all its flaws and things that dont add up(too little Money spread over too many projects)

It will have the immediate affect of keeping NASA at the centre of manned spaceflight and save a minimum of 14,000 jobs in Texas and Florida.

Proably the best thing said during the emergency debate in the House two weeks ago was:
"We will not repeat the mistake made after the wind down of Apollo by letting People with hugh experiance go"

They will turn there attention now to a new Heavy Launch Vehicle immeadiatly instead of in five years time as Obama had first proposed, but really the 54 Billion spread over three Years will not buid this,Orion and and cover all the other projects NASA have a finger in.

but as another Senator had said at the debate "We wont have a manned space programme by the end of 2010 if this bill is not passed and signed".

Beeker We have been talking about this since Augustine was appointed, then LL posted the Augustine report by PDF,then the long thread started by You called Obama to make major Speech policy last February,Whatever else 135 will happen(although it will as You know be LON-335 until 134 is safely home.)

I bet My life on it!!!!!!

Something to be said for Irelands/European way of doing budgets.Ok the minister for Finance speaks at about 4PM,Tax VAT increases come into effect by 6PM or Midnight.

almost none of Obama's budget sent to congress last February has been passed(a cynical person would think that there are far too many in America who are so shortsighted they would implode their Nation in order to make sure a black person never becomes the POTUS again.

It was mainly Republicans who spoke in favour of this bill during the debate,So i do not think it will be dumped when the inevitable happens and Obama's Party the Democrats get a hammering in the mid-terms.

Would You like to bet with Me?

Last nights Mid-term Elections were overall good for the much needed 135.
Since Obama held the Senate but lost the House they may just leave things as they stand as it was the Senates version that was adopted in the end by the House and signed by Obama.

Had to feel sorry for the FRR team at 133 press conference, they looked even wearier responding to reporters questions about 135 than We have gotten used to,They said in fact that November 2011 would be the ideal time for a 135 and said it could carry as much supplys as nine Progress could manage in one fell swoop.

Obama's overall budget for FY2011(which started Oct 1st this year) has still not passed.
At the moment America is being funded by a familiar phrase. i.e a CR,but it stands for continuing resolution not the Change Request Shuttle watchers have become used to.

There is to be a Lame duck meeting of Congress before the newly elected Congress take their seal of office but normally no changes are made by lame duck admins who have lost office but replacements still not sworn in.

So it could be well into the new year before NASA knows if they have 17 or 19 Billion to play with.

A lot of Republicans newly elected to the house want spending to return to FY2008 levels which would lop nearly $2Billion from NASA's budget.

One Who supports reducing the budget to 2008 levels has said "We can award a certain amount of money to NASA,but they will have to decide how to spend it"

Bottom line is it may well come down to Charlie Bolden,He can still stop it,It is all so weird.

I detect no bigotry in the cartoon.
This is a science forum and all fantasies, however deeply held, are equally open to mockery.

Your detection is irrelevant. There is no debate of fantasy within the cartoon. What is however in the cartoon is a discourse about a man's desire to commit sexual assault on a minor. Maybe some guys here find that entertaining. I don't. Its a science forum as you said. And I'll report the post as been off topic and repulsive and possibly offending.

riptide i have no objection to the cartoon being removed at all.
I know i am not a bigot in any way,but i do object to friends who have been stalwarths of the A&S Forum, who have always been helpful to others here and made it a fun forum as well as factual on a consistant basis rather than People who 'parachute' into a forum every now and again just to derail it.
It has been made clear to Me in subtle and not so subtle ways that i should never have rejoined.Did You get a taste for blood?

Let Me remind You of Your last post on A&S before this one directed at Me:

not forgetting the guidance Mods gave about humour on this forum:
Slade-X "Humour is always welcome here".

So before You criticise check the Archives as to who lit up the Forum over time.
The Epoxi mission got all of three posts,a Spacecraft had just encountered a Comet:confused:

So frankly My dear,I don't give a damn about the forum,it would be a 3rd rate version of the most humble of A&S Websites without the hard work some put into their posts as well as the humour.
Without the personal chat and amateur pics it would just be a place to put links to other sites.

If your humour is pedo innuendo cartoons... then that is really your problem. I would normally expect to see it in After hours or some other more suitable forum. Not in the A&S section where I often peruse in work.

You should review that thread in which you posted there. Your next post in that thread was when you admitted to been drunk on the forums and resulted in a big humble step down and unreserved apology from you to some other guy with which you were having some lame argument spill out on these forums, which to my mind was below what should be acceptable around here. If you look at my posting history I only post here when I feel the forum is in jeopardy with what I think is not fitting. I have been lurking this forum since its inception. I would like to see it continue as it always has. Humour? Sure... but please make it tasteful. :)
