HIIT on the Cross Trainer

    lads and ladies,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the best way to do HIIT on the cross trainer. I have been using the cross trainer for about a year now for my cardio needs, I also play squash which is a form of HIIT in itself.

On the cross trainer I would do 30 minutes on resistance 13, do the program called Cascades which pretty much means you climb a mountain, come back down, climb another and come back down! Its a tough workout and I maintain roughly 80 rpm (I think thats what the figure means anyways) on it.

How could I change this in to some HIIT? I was planning on doing a 5 minute warm up, 20 ish minutes of 30 second bursts with 60 seconds at moderate speed then 5 minutes to cool down. My only issue is I dont know what level I should do it at and what my RPM should be for the 60 second breather.

I'll be giving it a bash tomorrow so it will be a case of seeing what I can do before I collapse but if anyone has any pointers i'd appreciate it.

    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure the one my p.t gave me was 30 secs forwards, fast as you can, stop, repeat but backwards (this is hard & feel very weird the first time), then at normal speed for a minute.
    Repeat 4+ times.
