do Ab machines have a habit of causing neck strain?

As part of an exercise routine I do 3X20 reps on an ab machine, I built up the reps over the summer and I did notice that my neck was a bit stiffer (very mild). Its been great for the back though. My question is , is it something that should ease off if I've levelled off on the reps, or are there any particular warm ups that I can do to losen up that part of the body? When I use the machine I'm trying to not be "jerky" and to keep the motions fluid. I saw the thread on the Wheel gismo that Aldi are selling so I'm going to get that to break up the routine a bit.

I would get a swiss ball instead. You can do a wide variety of ab work on it, and it provides a lot more support for your back and neck, as well as giving you a much bigger range of movement.

One floor exercise which works a huge number of abs mucles is the bicycle crunch.

thanks for that, we have a Swiss ball in the house but I never used it before. Tried it out and its a very smooth form of exercise.

Have a look on Youtube, and you'll find a huge number of ways to use it. Quite apart from helping with labour pains!
