Windows Server 03/08 as Stratum 1 NTP Server

We have a requirement for testing where clients will only accept NTP time packets from a Stratum 1 source.

For our testing, we don't actually care whether the source is a stratum 1 or not (ie the time provided doesn't have to be accurate), it just has to declare itself as being stratum 1.

Is this possible through Windows Server 2003 or 2008 for it to declare itself as a stratum 1 source, even though it wouldn't be connected to a stratum 0 source?.

I'm thinking I should be able to do it through a linux box. From reading up on it, the Windows NTP implementation seems very weak.

Also, if you have any Cisco kit in your network, you can configure them to run an NTP server too.

Heard about Cisco alright, but haven't tried it.

Just figured it out with Ubuntu, relative piece of cake.
