Do you find Family Guy funny?

Just watching it there and the South Park Manatee thing really is true.
They seem to just cram in as many pop cultural references as they can (typically juxtaposing them in an unfamiliar context... Cookie Monster in a psych ward etc etc).
    Rinse and repeat.
    It really is desperately formulaic.
And literally every gag is done in that self-conscious "i am a joke, here comes the punchline" way.
    Terrible.

    Well, do you like it?
    And why?

The odd show is funny but they are not even a little consistant.

    Both Simpsons wannabes really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,784 ✭✭✭Superbus

They should just stop trying to be an animated sitcom, and admit to being an animated sketch show.

    A bad one.

The simpsons has been unwatchable for the last 8 years or so. They're probably the best of what's left.

    South Park is much better

I watched Family Guy once. Didn't make me smile, let alone laugh. Haven't watched it since.

Never seen a Simpsons episode that I didn't enjoy at least ten times more than my favourite Family Guy or South Park show.

The Simpsons is like pizza, even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

I always find something funny in it when I watch it. I don't watch it all the time though. Seems to be on a lot. I'd prefer it now to the last 7-9 years or so of Simpsons.

I only started watching it recently, and it's not bad.
Not always funny when they try to be, but it's watchable.

Futurama us better than Family Guy or Simpsons..but SP is still the best by a long shot

I dont watch any of 'em..South Park,Futurama,Family Guy and have never seen a full episode of the Simpsons. Entire conversations have been lost on me because of it :o

Many of the more recent episodes from later series of Family Guy are actualy pretty sharp.
Much funnier than what they used to be.

But in terms of Seth McFarlane shows, American Dad is my fave.

and I also agree that its been a loooong time since the simpsons were funny.

    That is genuinely impossible.

First few seasons were the best, seems to be going off the boil now. I liked their turn they did on the episode where Stewie and Brian were stuck in the bank vault, even if it was edited for a "UK" audience.

When you watch episodes of Family Guy for the first time, most of the jokes are throwaway and a bit crap, but every now and then you're caught off-guard with one which can floor you.

You can't (imo) rewatch an episode of Family Guy and find it funny again though, as you know the good jokes and realize upon rewatching that most of them weren't even that funny after all, you were just in the right mood when they caught you.

*shrugs* Good for watching in the background if you're doing something else, but not great on its own :) (though can be worth it for the few times it does make you laugh)
I've downloaded South Park though just the other day, which I haven't seen in years, and am enjoying that quite a bit; a far better show.

I like Family Guy because of Stewie and Brien and American Dad for Roger and Klaus... But my favourite show is Futurama.

Family guy has a few hilarious moments. I have often burst my hole laughing at one scene and then not even smiled at the rest of an episode

    Tis hit and miss

Family Guy is great but a lot of people don't get the jokes. I love the cut-away gags.

A good episode of FG is better than a good episode of SP.

Found it funny when I first started watching it but found it got boring and stale the more I saw.South Park is pure crap imo. Can't stand it at all.

Futurama and the earlier episodes of the Simpsons are miles ahead imo.

I swear to God!When Cablelink were doin the rounds as kids, we were the only house on the road not to get it.Cablelink i think offered my Dad half price service or somethin so they didnt have to bypass our house. The stubborn fecker that he is refused and we were stuck with a crappy aerial for years. Missed out on it all and couldnt be bothered catchin up with it then.

I actually refuse to watch it now...just because i like being the weirdo who prefered watching Countdown than cartoons :p

Family guy has really deteriorated in recent years. They even started repeating jokes and using pointless crap as a show filler. American Dad and the Cleveland Show are just the same. South Park on the other hand is a little better, I certainly wouldn't compare it to Family Guy.

I know it'll sound blasé for the sake of it but I've never watched it. It's not intentional, just never got around to it.

south park, futerama and American Dad are much better because its actually created around a script not just a plotline and "random" jokes

when people say i love family because "its just loike so random" i rage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭muckwarrior

Family Guy is pretty hit and miss. Very funny at times, but a lot more Miss than Hit.

Watching one or two episodes every now and then is awesome.
It works like everything else really, if you over do it and watch all series within a week or two its obviously gonna be boring.
But generally I find family guy awesome, they're just special :D

Tbh, I couldn't sit down and watch a full episode of Family Guy but sometimes when people quote lines from it, it does make me laugh. Not really my cup of tea though.

the last good episode of the simpsons is the one with mojo the monkey. Since lionel hutz disappeared and they brought in lindsey nagal and gil(even though he has his moments) it's been a completely different show.

    Did you not have RTE?

You have missed out on one of the biggest cultural phenomenons, ever.

    I am amazed.

A more surreal, more bad-taste Simpsons imo. I love Brian.

Yeh course, but it wasnt on it for years after it came out on Sky and by then..0 interest. I dont watch it on purpose now. None of my mates watched (or talked) about it..so never felt i missed out. Still dont! Gimme old school cartoons anyday. I hate adult based ones tbh!

    Peter-YO LOIS!
    Lois-WHAT?
Peter- I'm packing for Kiss-stock and I can't find my favorite underwear.
Lois-You mean the pair with the rip in the right butt check from when you stepped on them pulling them up in that airplane bathroom from when you had the trotts?
Peter-No, no the pair with the whole in the left butt check from when I held it in for two hours cuz it was an extra long Palm Sunday church sermon and I thought that blowing gas would offend jesus so I let it go in the vestabule after mass and it sounded like Louie Armstrong.
    Lois-Oh! Bottom drawer.

I lolled a lot when I heard that one first.

I just find that amazing. For me, it's such a default kind of comfort, I just watch it when there's nothing else on. Because it usually is on.

I think Futurama can have very funny moments, love The Simpsons (when it was good obviously). South Park is the one I don't find that funny.

Family Guy is the only cartoon I watch regularly nowadays. I'd sometimes watch the Simpsons on RTE and C4 since they show the older, better episodes, as well as the occasional one on Sky1, but the new ones are nowhere near as good as the old ones. If a new one was on of a Sunday evening I'd watch it, but sometimes I'd be watching a new episode and only realising I've seen it a month ago half way through it. Whereas older episodes I could tell what happens just from the couch gag because I've watched them countless times. Never got into Futurama or South Park, the latter was way too OTT for my liking. When the Cleveland Show and American Dad started being shown here I told myself I'd watch both but I never got around to them.
