Hip pain during squat

Hey been doing starting strength for 4 months, my squat is now around 100kgs and lately I've been starting to experience discomfort in my hips when performing squats.

I think my form is good, as in I've read the books and watched the youtube videos.

I've had problems with my hips before from doing Taekwondo and I've a feeling that they may just be a bit dodgey generally speaking!

Wondering if anyone has any advice.

If the problem is the sheer weight it'll be a bit **** as I don't see how I can progress.

What sort of warm up do you do?

You should always take time to warm up your hips/lower body before squatting

Heres a good vid with some exercises

This could be perceived as looking for medical advice.
Look into foam rolling, maybe video yourself to be sure your form is down to pat etc.

But your best bet is probably seeing some sort of physical therapist.
Nobody will be able to give you good advice based on the info you have presented.

Alrighty then, my warm ups are admittedly fairly ****e, i just do 5 reps with the empty bar and 5 reps on 60. Might try to imporve that aspect of things and see if it helps.

In fairness in the book he is very clear about how to warm your lifts.
He is very clear about it.
He also says "if you don't have time to warm up properly, you don't have time to train."

You are a very bold boy.

    Hi Paulig

Sorry but I am closing this thread as it could be construed as seeking medical advice. If you are feeling discomfort/pain when squatting, then this is something that you really seek qualified professional advice on.

You have received about the only advice that we can offer, i.e. warm up properly prior to lifting and stretch/foam roll after.

If it doesn't help then I think the physio would be your best bet.

    Best Regards,

    M
