Advice on weight loss & toning please?

    Hi,
    I'm a 20 year old female, 5'10 and 126 lbs.

I'm looking to tone up and lose a (small few) lbs, but finding it a bit difficult to know if I'm going the right way about it or not, and would really appreciate some advice.

I've begun to go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week, spending about 40 mins on cardio - bike, step machine, treadmill, arm cycle (?) machine and rowing machine. I also use the weight machines for about 3 rounds, and increase the weight/cardio level, when I find myself able to.
I do try to walk everywhere and keep active also.

On a normal day, I don't usually eat breakfast. I have a chicken wrap and coffee for lunch, or soup, or a cheese and ham sandwich for lunch, and for dinner, normally either lasagne, chicken curry, a roast dinner, chips, and only then a small portion. I wouldn't snack much, but if anything's around the house - chocolate, etc, I probably would eat it.. which I should stop myself doing.

What I eat varies on where I am, etc, but I do go out at weekends a lot, which means I drink at least once a week, and then normally about either 3 - 4 southern comforts or vodkas, or a few bottles of beer.

Looking at my diet and eating habits, it's a bit scattered, and I'd also like some advice on what I can do to improve this also, what kinds of foods I should be eating.

My main problem areas are my tummy & thighs, so also wondering how best to tone these up?

Sorry for the long post, and cheers in advance for advice:)

126 pounds seems extremely low for someone who's 5'10'. Have you always been that weight or have you recently lost weight? I'm 160lbs at the same height and I'd look pretty gaunt if I went below 150. I'd focus more on weights than cardio if I were you, and move from the machines to free weights.

Are you sure that's your correct height? Because 9 stone at 5'10" is a BMI of just 18.1 and is underweight so if you are that height I'd suggest putting on Some weight and be healthy. You mentioned you didn't eat breakfast most days ? As I'm sure you've been told many times before, is not good at all. It ruins yor metabolism aswell as damages many other aspects of your life without you even realizing it. I won't add anymore untill you hopefully tell me that 5'10" is not your true height.

Im with G86 on this im between 5ft10 and 5ft11 and weigh 140lbs and i look wayy to0 skinny (in process of putting on a bit of meatage - i have nicknames such as jew or boy in striped pyjamas). Go for body definition and not weight loss. To be honest the food you eat is not great. read the stickies at the top of this forum and in the nutrition and diet forum and start eating breakfast and eating good whole foods. A little bit of what you fancy is good for the soul too. eat often.

Free weights. Google starting strength - its a lifting programme any sex and aimed at newbies to free weight lifting and then get an instructor or if you have the funds a PT to show you throw technique for 1 session or two in your gym.

The above poster g86 has a fitness on here and is female too - take a look at it for some ideas.

Hi, my height is 5"10 - I'm not putting on weight, I'm happy with/under the weight I am, perhaps my issue is that I need to tone up. I am quite slim, but there are a few areas that I'm not happy with, and would like to improve them and get fit.
    Thank you for your replies!

That's fair enough :) But if you want to 'tone' up then you'll need to gain muscle; and if you gain muscle you'll put on weight - that's not a bad thing, weight gain doesn't necessarily have to mean fat gain.

With regards to the tummy and thighs, you can't spot reduce, unfortunately. Hit the weights and hit them hard, and you'll soon see the results you want. Jeebus if I was your weight I'd be late night carbing my way to a 100kg squat!:pac:
