It's something people choose to believe because it's presumably comforting. There is absolutely zero solid proof it exists.

Of course I believe in Karma. It means I can do mean things to people all day and assume they have it coming to them.

Funny how no-one ever really talked about Karma - an Indian religious concept - until "My Name is Earl" came on the telly.

    Nah i don't think so.
I'm kinda fcuked if it does though! :pac:

Well, what would you expect really?
That's why I don't think people believe it exists, because they don't really understand it..in my opinion. (before I'm attacked)

Earl: (after punching a guy) Maybe Karma's behind this whole thing Randy. I mean the guy finally got what he deserved. Maybe Karma just borrowed my fist to give it to him.

Karma/Divine Retribution/What goes around comes around, lovely notions but if there was any basis behind them, we'd never need a prison system.

It would be good; Some guy pisses me off by doing something to me, I save myself the hassle of doing something back knowing that Karma will fùck him up in equal measure.

But, alas, we live in reality where good honest people get horrible diseases and die a painful death. Why? Because they put the empty carton of milk back in the fridge?

Of course Karma exists and walks amongst us:

I wonder if its true what they say, that karma's a ..... :pac:

ok lets just say a chap is always friendly and generous to all his neighbours or family or workmates. one of those good natured types.
lets say he falls on hard times, or needs a good break or something and one of the folk he's regularly in contact with decides he can deliver this good deed anonymously.
because the chap was known to be a decent sort someone helps him out. some will call that karma. while i don't believe in a cosmic force dealing out the ole ying and yang there is something to be said about leading a good life, and the odd time it'll yield rewards.
so yes it does exist and no it doesn't

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,620 ✭✭✭sligopark

Yes - without doubt what goes around comes around in some personal one to one manner

Action and Reaction. Reaction can be affected somewhat by the intention of the action.

I'd really like to think it does tbh.

So, for all those that have ****ed me over,
    it comes back to them.

I was just thinging about this actually.

I was thinking of this one lad who seems to have more fun times and general "banter"than I do but is somewhat of a prick.

But then I realised somthing...He doesent..infact quite recently on holiday we was robbed by a local mafia and forced to pay for damages they made to his room and he not long ago had his jaw fractured.Meanwhile I have close friends, much more happier times, far more life and adventerouse experiances and have never had anything truly bad happen to me.

I know it seems like general hogwash when i say this there but it's somthing you'd have to talk about in person and such or even know either of us.

I'm iffy on the whole karma subject. I usually just say it when someone get's what they have coming to them, but overall no I don't believe in the the superstition where things come back to bite someone in the ass when someone does something bad.

sorry I retract my opinion - Fianna Fail and their gombeen way have just disproved this karma theory bullsh1t

Sorry but anyone who thinks every person who acts the dick is guaranteed to be punished, is quite maddeningly naive. Karma doesn't exist just because you WANT it to .

Karma is an abhorrent doctrine that is used by the elites in the caste society of India to justify the suffering and exploitation of those less fortunate than they. If you are poor, sick, hungry or tormented you deserve it because you did something wrong in a previous life. Similarily, if you are rich and powerful you also deserve that simply because it is your karma.

Shockingly enough, most people don't understand what they're talking about. Westerners love to imagine that other parts of the world have wonderful shiny and magical beliefs that are so much more clever and deep than our own. People in India are as stupid as anywhere else, and their religion is no less ridiculous and oppressive than anywhere else.

Eh not if you're over 20. It's been around in the cultural psyche for a long time.

I don;t believe in it anyway. I've known serious pricks that have done really well out of life, emotionally, socially etc. And I've seen too many decent people get fooked over time and time and time again.

It has some logical basis in that if you're nice to people some may remember that and dig you out in times of woe, but beyond that, in my humble its an utter crock. Up there with what's for you, won't go by you, love at first sight, and the local version of karma, what comes around goes around. I would say if you belive in it and it makes your life better doing so, then good luck to you, but all too often its a feeble mind at work.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

naw, i don't believe in karma. it's a lovely idea but no more than that.

Is that right Miss Dawkins

    /throws book out window

Off course there is such thing as karma.

Intention is at the essence of everything.

Everything you do, comes back to you.

    Both good and bad.

Maybe not in this world, but in the next.

    Love is all that matters.

Pain and time are but an illusion.

It matters not a jot if you believe in karma or a world after this.

We all carry on in another dimension anyway.

    Hare Krishna.

i thought the karma guy was questioning did morals exist, cos up til recent times people could easily get away with a lot more stuff.. i mean just think about it u could pull off probs anything with minor planning n escape into the night. possibly the same reason religion came about?
thou shalt not this nor that, cos it be way too f'n easy > widespread n we need some sort of supposed supernatural deterrent

Yeah, this is way better than having a discussion. Let's all fire off ambiguous, though contrary and petulant, one liners and sit back, basking in our own snide passive aggression.

    I'm ripping the píss ;)

believe whatever you want but please don't say such condescending statements as "I weep" to my comment with your one sided argument about karma(in certain parts of India and India alone). It's pretty unneccesary imo.
