    Hi there,

I was wondering about eating snacks. I usually would have 2 or 3 slices of toast before I hit the gym. I’m looking at having something healthier. I was thinking about having peanut butter and ryvita. I’m wondering are they healthly snacks, I know peanut butter is very fattening but it seems most people on this forum have it.

Can someone explain is it good or bad?? Also which brand is the best to get???

    Thanks in advance!

Peanut butter is a great little snack - just go for a brand that has no added sugar or loaded with salt - brands like kelkin/whole earth/ meridian are good for nut butter.

It's high in healthy fats that we need for good skin, hair, nails etc

A slice or two of ryvita with a bit of peanut butter would be a better snack nutritionally than bread

Other options might be cottage cheese, fruit, nuts/seeds

Any particular brand in mind?? I quite like the ones that have crunchy peanut butters?? Also something I don’t understand. How can Peanut butter be better for you than bread and better. It seems peanut butter is a lot more fattening .

For someone who is trying to lose weight this concerns me , anyone help?

I like to have a small handful of nuts - just about 7 or so - and a dried fig, it's a nice satisfying snack coz you get the sweetness with the fig and the crunchiness of the nuts.

I think nuts are probably better than bread coz they don't make your blood sugar spike (i could be way off the mark though), and the fats are healthy and nuts are full of vitamins.

I reckon you're ok with peanut butter as long as you watch the portions, a little spoonful should be enough, I wouldn't go mental with it!

I mentioned the brands in my 1st post - meridian, kelkin or whole earth.

Bread esp white is made from refined flour. This has no nutritional value what so ever. It gets digested too quickly and spikes your insulin.

We need fat - don't be put off by it. The fats to avoid are trans fats in rubbish food.
Peanut butter has healthy good fats that help make use of fat soluble vitamins, help with skin health, teeth etc. Google and educate youself on it and id also say read the stickies at the top of this forum and the fitness forum for a better understanding.
