What is a meal?

    Hey,

So I have come here with a question I cannot figure out the answer to. I am hoping somebody can shed some light on it?

    So, what is a meal?

It's stated continuly that a body needs regular meals to avoid going into what can be known as starvation mode, where the body trys to hold onto fat and instead burns muscle.

However what defines a meal? Is it defined by a specific weight, volume, calorie count? What specifically?

If I ate a cracker would that count as a meal? If not why not? There isn't enough food maybe? What's the treshold?

I'm sure everybody will have some variances but is there a rough guide even?

A meal in with regards bodybuilding and fitness terms is having a serving of good quality protein, a serving of healthy carbohydrate and some veg for example

    salmon, brown rice, broccoli

eggwhite omelete with 1 or 2 yolks thrown in, mixed veg and bowl of porridge

    chicken breast,sweet potato, cauliflour

the body isn't going to go into stravation mod over a few hours.

Daily calories divided by 6 = 6 meals
Daily calories divided by 3 = 3 meals (twice as big, eaten half as often)

A meal is meal ffs. The body doesn't process food instantly, when you eat dinner, it could well be still polishing off your lunch or the snack you had earlier.
