Miz comes from the back and whacks Bryan with his briefcase. Barrett steals the victory with a quick pin.

    Bryan is eliminated.

Barrett goes to the outside and rolls Cena back into the ring, tagging in Gabriel.

Gabriel charges Cena in the corner, but Cena avoids him and connects with a couple of shoulder blocks before hitting a side belly to back suplex and following it up with the five knuckle shuffle. Cena tries for the AA, but Barrett makes the blind tag, coming in and stopping the AA and hitting Cena repeatedly in the head before stomping away. Barrtt and Gabriel stomp away at Cena repeatedly, making quick tags in and out, continuing to stomp at Cena. Barrett finally tags in and lets Cena get up to his feet, only to hit a big boot to send Cena to the outside. Barrett follows out quickly and Gabriel peels back some of the ringside mats.

Barrett DDT’s Cena on the concrete. Barrett sends Cena back into the ring and he tags in Gabriel, telling him to go to the top. Gabriel tries for the 450, but Cena moves out of the way. Cena goes for the quick cover, and scores the three count.

    Justin Gabriel is eliminated.

Barrett comes in and is quickly caught in the STF. Barrett taps out, and this one is over.

    Winners: Team RAW, John Cena

    - After the match, John Cena gets up and celebrates with the fans. The pay-per-view goes off the air with Cena in the ring.

I really hope this is the start of a Miz/Bryan feud btw I'm delighted Bryan is back and that Team Raw won didnt expect it tbh

This has gone from a show I had zero interest in watching to something I'm quite anxious to see. Delighted to see Danislson back, looks like he has regained his momentum as well and will hopefully continue to feature prominently.

At least this could be the end of the Nexus storyline!

Would expect Orton to get the belt at the next PPV!

Even though it was suggested they might bring back Bryan beforehand, it's still a nice thing to see, and now him and the miz can be expected to have a good solid feud. A better PPV than anyone expected, methinks, even though the burial of the SES continues...

+1 on this. while some guys have come on a lot, most of them just aren't ready for wrestling on TV. Ironically, the season 2 NXT rookies seem a lot more polished.

Before the event I wanted Nexus to win. But with Daniel Bryan back, I think WWE winning was the right call. Even though he was eliminated, he can be credited with helping them win, giving him a push. He has a feud ready to go with The Miz, which will probably get him the US title. And with Nexus losing, it means they can hold off on the reveal of who is really in charge of them for another while.

I'm more disappointed SES lost. They need a win dammit. If they don't start picking up wins, they'll split.

Im suprised the internet didnt explode with the shock return of danielson, since all the wrestling smarks are obsessed with him.

Daniel Bryan and Bryan Danielson were both the top worldwide trending topics on twitter last night and the observer site was down for a while so it made a bit of impact.

Great PPV, haven't marked out like in a very, very, very long time. Not since Bryan last NXT stuff actually!

    The ending, however, was BULL****.

I have no issue with team WWE winning, that's fine. But the fact that Cena no sold that he just got the living **** kicked out of him and got a DDT onto the exposed hard floor ruined it for me completely. Normally I'm not one to loose the rag over no-selling, but this was idiotic and was two steps from having text on the screen saying "THIS IS FAKE."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,468 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    the no-sell was damn annoying.

but the ending did not bother me, and people are making far too much of a big deal about Nexus not winning.

they got within a whisker of defeating a team including 3 bona-fide main eventers, and a legendary Hall of Famer.

Nexus can still go over, just by the fact they ran Team WWE so close. having Cena do it on his own in the end was a bit much, but the result itself was ok.

everything depends on where they go from here.

Someone on another topic, which is closed now, asked why didn't Miz cash in his MITB....... I think it's because Sheamus was unconscience after Orton DDT'ed him on the table, and remember the new rule is that the title holder has to be conscience.

Òh and Skip looked liked a beast last night, Vince may have found his next monster I reckon. Slater got a nice rub by pinning Edge and Jericho while Gabriel wasn't hurt at all by the match. So the idea that they were buried last night is madness.:)

It's much more difficult to keep them relevant now that they've lost. Why would fans pay to see them be beaten when they've already been beaten? Nexus losing made absolutely no sense. What's worse is they gave Team Raw every excuse to lose - Miz took out Bryan, Jericho and Edge were eliminated by miscommunication then beat on Cena and Cena was DDT'd on concrete but Nexus still lost. It just makes them look bad.

Exactly. People would be a lot more willing to pay to see the WWE try to get their revenge and make up for their loss than they would to see Nexus.

Firing him was a PR rexercise I'd say. He was probably told by Vince at the time that he would be brought back pretty soon. That Vince personally told him indicates it was an unusual situation.

That he has been brought back with the storyline that he "regretted the Nexus attack" is just another way of being PG. Like when in Seventh Heaven somebody got drunk, shagged somebody etc, they always regretted it afterwards and had learnt their lesson etc.

i was really pissed off aboput the ending of the match. Cena gets his head smashed against the floor, acts as if he is dead but then is able to get alot of energy together to make the 2 pins.

Interesting analogy there with the 7th Heaven thing and I think you're right actually  Weird I didn't think WWF had gone that PG. All we need now is a morality story played out at the end of each programme like in the original He-Man cartoon.

I'm surprised at the nexus sympathy. An angle was created on RAW where a group of guys came in and ruined the show every chance they got. They even ruined a match at the PPV. At the same time they managed to get everyone shouting for cena instead of 50% boos and 50% cheers. They had to be beaten by Cena, especially in the main event of the 2nd biggest PPV there is.

Remember Nexus always talked about the bigger meaning, this loss sets up the next phase of the storyline to introduce whoever really is in charge. If Nexus won there would be no need for them to bring the real leader in at all.

A bigger travesty was WWE bottling the WWE title match. There had to be a pin in that one, either Sheamus should of been regarded a big enough Star to A) Pin Orton or B) Get Pinned and not look like a chump.

They didn't have to be beaten. For WWE to truly establish Nexus and set up scenarios that people will pay to see Nexus had to win. The only thing last night proved is that despite The Miz, a DDT on concrete and a breakdown in the team, Nexus still can't beat the big boys. It was ridiculous booking and the kind of booking that helps nobody.

I agree about the ending being wrong. At the same time I can why they did it in that Summerslam is a big ppv and they wanted a feel good moment to end the show.

They can rescue it tonight on Raw but it was the wrong move in an angle where WWE has largely done very well.

I didn't like the finish to the main event last night but I will say that's a pretty good defence of it. Hopefully it hasn't hurt the group.

I agree with Vince that tonight is very important. I'm just hoping that there is not more focus put on Jericho and Edge turning on Cena last night over the Nexus guys.

But there will be no more 7 on 7 matches so why have the Nexus 7 topple the WWE 7? If nexus can beat WWE's 7 there are no more scenarios unless WWE end up with a numbers advantage. Nexus were always billed as a threat due to their sheer numbers. No need to have them beat the established stars who as individuals are worth more than the 7 Nexus individuals.

The purpose of Nexus Phase 1 was to get people cheering for Cena and Sell Summerslam. Phase 2, I imagine is further revealing what is behind Nexus. The reveal of who/what is behind Nexus is what sets up people buying Future PPVs, not Nexus winning a 7 on 7 match.

It really depends on how you look at it but to me Nexus was made look quite weak.

By the end of the night they lost even though they cheated, they had someone run in and cheat for them and the WWE team were fighting amongst each other. They are still all very new and needed all the help they could get.

Last night didn't do anyone any favours on Nexus apart from Skip Sheffield maybe.

But look if they do a big angle tonight, it might help them re-establish themselves as a threat and I can see why the WWE wouldn't want Summerslam to end on a down note. The pattern lately has been at least 1 happy ending on each show. and it would have been quite the depressing show for any young fans watching if they had sat through the show wanting their heroes to win.

Why does there just have to be one 7 on 7? Ideally last night Nexus should have won, you play up that Team Raw might've won if it wasn't for them falling apart and because of the Miz interference, Nexus continue to dominate, win a few titles then you do a losing team breaks up/leaves Raw (something like that) match at Survivor Series when Team Raw realise that they need to pull together. That easy, and they could go a number of different ways to that same conclusion. But because they've been beaten despite everything going in their favour and they're no longer a threat. People won't pay to see them beaten again. What can they do tonight to top what they've done already, beating up Cena again won't be enough.

They had already beaten the established stars last night bar Cena, I had no problem with the booking of that match until Cena pinned them. If Gabriel had hit that 450, tagged out and then Barrett hit his move and pinned Cena - Cena wouldn't have looked weak. It would've fully established Nexus as a force to be reckoned with.

I also don't get why there has to be somebody behind them, I think it'd be better off if there wasn't. Say if McMahon, HHH, Cole or whoever it is revealed to be pulling the strings it just takes the focus off of Nexus. They'd be much better off with Barrett being the sole leader as he's clearly the star of the group.

The way that Danielson segues into the crossface out of absolutely nowhere or any position is just gorgeous. I hope it becomes part of his regular movest. What a wrestler, its little things like that that set him apart.

The way he was booked last night, he might just get the Benoit pushed I never in my wildest dreams thought they'd ever give him.

WWE have already created the idea of a purpose behind Nexus. IF Barrett was the leader I would agree with everything you said. In an ideal world Barret would have been the star.

However wwe created an expectation that Nexus is bigger than just the 7 guys. They have to deliver on it. The group of 7 would have lost their edge pretty quick and became a channel changer, but the mystery of what is really behind nexus is what gives the storyline legs.

It also protects barrett in the long run, if they put to much pressure on him they could kill him off, he is only a few months on the road!

At least it looks like he'll be beating Miz for the US title soon, which may lead to a series of matches against the likes of Bourne and Regal which should be fun and help establish him with the more casual audience.

They've implied that there's more to their actions than meets the eye but that doesn't mean there has to be somebody behind them. I hate the idea of Nexus being used to help an already established star - that'd be pointless.

The cross face has to be his finisher now, why else have two guys tap to it? That video chortype posted was a great 4 minutes. I loved everything about it, the Kip up, the missile drop kick, the way he took out Gabriel and Barrett at the same time with another Drop kick and the Crossface you mention. Just class. Great to see the 4 mins in isolation like that.

I almost agree with you, i'd say i'm 95%. If nexus were 7 guys made up of people like MVP, Zack Ryder etc who have proved themselves to be capable then the angle would have to designed to only get Nexus over.

But nexus is still a group of Guys only on the road a short time, they will need an established star to help them out. Based on the real credentials of the 7 guys involved I feel WWE need to use the storyline to give the 7 guys a chance at a long career while giving established guys a major boost too.

Nexus have a collective drawing power, as individuals at this stage they're worthless but as a group they can draw. I don't think that's the case anymore now that they've been beaten. Nexus still had plenty of legs, there was no need to beat them - nothing was gained. Plenty would've been gained from Nexus winning.

I don't think Nexus were made to look weak but they have definitely shortened the lifespan of the storyline. The storyline is still good enough to run until Survivor Series.
