In 15 years time

I was just reading the ''what was your first phone'' thread there and it really got me thinking about how far we've actually come in 15 years.

15 years ago a mobile phone was a thing of science fiction to most of the population, a flat screen HD TV was unimaginable and dvd's were only in the pipeline for production. Sort of wierd when you think about it!

Anyway do you think in 15 years time we will look back and say ''God we really lived in the the dark ages back then''? or do you believe we've nearly reached a peak in technology development ,so much so, that in 15 years time technology wont have changed that much?

I really hope in 15 years time they improve the way we fap to the point where we dont actually need a real woman we can have some kind of robot that manually pulls/sucks you off better than an Amsterdam hooker.

I'm still distraught that we don't have hoverboards yet.

We could go to the moon 40 years ago and we can't now.

We could fly across the Atlantic at Mach 2 10 years ago and we can't now.

It's more money that's holding technology back.

I believe that in 15 years time, the internet will be so advanced, that instead of talking to people on forums through a keyboard & computer, people will be able to meet each other & have conversations face to face.

I know it sounds a bit 'out there', but the technology is being built as we speak type.

The movie THX1138 had this. In it a sort of vaccum cleaner pulls you off whilst you watch 3D porn.

I believe that in 15 years time, the internet will be so advanced, that instead of talking to people on forums through a keyboard & computer, people will be able to meet each other & have conversations face to face.

I know it sounds a bit 'out there', but the technology is being built as we speak type.

It's not 'out there', it's called Chatroulette.

Anyways, IMO everything will simply improve gradually and steadily, all technologies will become more and more miniaturized...

Internet speeds will probably increase to 100mbps for the cheapest package and up to 1gbps for the top one.

Desktop and laptops will improve, laptops will be very powerful and will completely replace desktops in the consumer market and in turn many people will use mobile phones(computers at that point) to replace laptops.

Desktops will be used only in the offices IMO, this will be aided by consoles being very powerful and there being no need for a desktop for gaming.

Mobile phones will become mobile computers, very powerful and they'll be able to do almost everything a PC can do, it'll be enough to the point where an average consumer will not be able to tell a difference functionally. Mobile phones will become real companions/sidekicks to people... gaming, multimedia, communication, gps, payments, they'll do everything... I expect their storage capacity to reach 1TB.

Also mobile internet(3G), will become a norm and won't be a slow, rip off it is now. In fact many people won't even need/have cable/dsl. Mobile operators will transform into internet providers.

Cars will get packed with more and more technology, they'll be able to self drive, they'll be "aware" of their surroundings.

Everything will be integrated, phones will be able to communicate with cars, cars will be able to communicate with other cars, houses, etc...

Consoles will completely replace all the electronics in your living room, they'll provide all in one entertainment.

Streaming will replace hard media, online storage and cloud computing will replace home storage for many.

I wonder though if there is going to be anything truly "scifi" and revolutionary?

I can see SKY and other satellite/cable tv being ousted by the 100GB broadband that will be available in 2025...

all tv will be via the internet will adds and such working the same way they do now - unskippable if you want to watch a program so no more channel hopping during the adds...

I also think 3d tv will be here to stay and we'll have gotten rid of the goggles but then...

the world will revolve around the internet and a lot more people will work from home possibly....

and ireland will be building nuclear fission plants because it's cheaper than the new nuclear fission plants because we're always gonna be the most backward country in the developed world

Considering it was last year this country got its 1st inter city motorway, there's no way we'll have any of that, 15 years time is only around the corner

I'm afraid of net neutrality being lost too... all it'll take is one person to decide that X company's policy should censor Y on the internet and the precedent is set - we've already seen it with eircom and the piratebay...

If the corporations get control of the internet I really dunno what other avenues will be left open to complete freedom of speech without the risk of censorship by a corporation...

No matter what else happens - I just hope that the internet will always remain free to everybody and that censorship and corporate control can be abolished over the internet...

There is serious talk of a two tier system coming down the line but that's for another thread.
    Have a read here: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/broadband/360304/neutrality-campaigners-plan-protest-at-google-hq
"The Google-Verizon pact would create two separate, unequal sections of the internet — a high-speed and exclusive fast lane for big business, and a slow lane, the "public internet" that would be available to the rest of us.”

We'll still be giving out the government but we'll have convinced ourselves that 15 years ago Cowen and Co. were doing a better jobs than our new robot overlords.

Your computer, phone, camera, music player, gaming console and probably other things probably as well, will become one device (that'll come along long before 15 years time)

High speed wireless internet available everywhere.

Petrol/diesel cars will be replaced with electrical/hydrogen powered cars

NASA already plans to colonize the moon between 2019 and 2024

Nuclear fusion power will become a viable power source.

Computer will become unimaginably more powerful.

Cookers will be automagic, not manual, and you will say "make me a pie!" and hey presto, it will make a pie, all whilst you lie back in your lazyboy come universal adapter/remote/wireless device trying desperately to caw(i.e. tweet v45.5) on your unimaginably small phone with your futuristically pudgy fingers wishing you could afford some new fangled instant painless version of liposuction.

Unfortunately it won't be robots. It'll just be the newer generations of fat pigs currently building their profiles and climbing the ladder in the Dáil .

I can picture it now. 17/3/2025. New FF Taoiseach Paul Gogarty visits the White House for the annual St. Patricks Day celebrations. After the president sneers at his bowl of cabbage he explodes. "Fúck you President Rodham Clinton! Fúck you!" Tanaiste Leo Vardakar (FG leader and coalition partner) (FF and FG have by this point given up trying to convince us that they're different parties) looks on dismay "That's most unparlimentary language!"

Well we can't. I'm not saying we couldnt if we tried, but we had that capability and now its gone for the moment. Ditto with concorde. While the US has sadi they want another moonshot, it won't last the three presidential terms(at least) to do it. The Chinese might do it. They've gotten people into orbit, but a moonshot is a much much bigger deal.

In 5/20/30 years time? Well if history is anything to go by there will be something we never saw coming. Something possibly around now that only a few people are involved with.

In 15 years time they'll bring back 3d in movies (following the lull it'll take soon enough) and herald it as groundbreaking technology that you have to experience* in the cinema.

Not entirely true - movies such as The Stranger Wore A Gun (1953) and Jaws 3D (1983) were both live action films made that implemented 3D.
