just wondering is there much of a problem with locks being cut etc ?
Or is the location out front in a busy enough area enought to deter most thieves?

I would let it over night but I wouldn't see a problem during CIT hours. This summer they've fitted every single corner of CIT with cameras. Brand new camera system in. It's like big brother now.

Totally secure during day hours. wouldn't leave a bike or anything overnight though. A friend had a laptop stolen from the car park on a night course last year. They must have been watching as they specifaclly targeted her car. The extra cameras are a joke really.

Personally a security booth with a guard would be a better option but CIT isn't known for being the most innovative in this sense possibly because it may incure costs.

The CIT magazine did a spoof of the lack of security a year or 2 back. A couple of lads in walked in and took several expensive pieces of expensive equipment including monitors and computers. They documented it with photographs.

Nothing was done to increase security though so go figure.

Over the summer they've made big changes least with CCTV anyways. It's gas, every corner of college has camera now.

wouldn't they would need a bank of monitors to be scanned on a continous basis in a new high tech office to justify the amount of cameras as an effective security measure?

I can't see them having this type of security overhaul combined with the cameras really. I have seen the CIT security office and it is a bit bigger than a broom cupboard manned by older chaps drinking tea and getting annoyed by students looking for locker keys.

I'm not beind smart or cynical by the way. But the increase in cameras sounds more like a failed attempt at increasing security.

They've a big new security room with huge monitors now. They've moved.

Ah sounds good so. Although a glut of cameras probably makes the place a bit more unfriendly albeit more secure I guess.
