Has anyone been to Holland and Barrett in Limerick city? It's in the shopping centre, Arthur's Quay. I feel compelled to find out anyone's experiences as I was in there today and I heard some extremely dubious advice being dished out by a man who I think was the manager!!!

Well tbh first and foremost the chap is trying to sell you something. You're not there to get medical advice from him, you're there to be sold something so I would take anything these people say with a pinch of salt.

Oh goodness I've seen healthshop assistants make the most outrageous claims.

One conversation I overheard involved a woman selling one of those 'fat-burning' supplements, I had to stifle my laughter.

99% of what H&B sell is entirely useless. Good for whey protein the odd time when they have half price offers though..

Eats of Eden is lovely place...fave has to be the one in crescent though, Nature's Hand...do most of my shopping there...the prices brought me into holland and barrett. I stayed around 15mins, but heard so much nonsense in that time, I left without buying and won't be going back!!

As others have said, you shouldn't be believing anything these people are saying, I wouldn't say that 99% of the products are useless, however, 99% of the products have little or no proof of efficacy outside of anecdotal 'evidence'

Thats so funny I was in there the other day and this shop assistant was prescribing Cocount Oil to a women with obvious Alopecia. Cocount oil is lovely for hair but it aint going to cure something as serious as alopecia. I think Holland and Barret is only good for discounts on nuts and crackers.

The other health food shop in the Crescent is much better though it can be a bit on the pricey side. brought a small bag of quinoa in there yesterday for a fiver, which I thought was a bit steep. Though I wish they'd move all those snacks from around the counter area. I have no discipline and will always pick up a choclate bar or two If its placed right in front of me!

yep, unfortunately you have to do a bit of research on your own before going into most places like H&B

agree on this about price. it reminds me of the eternal debate on "organic food snobbery"....
