I dont get how your complaining about 1200 on 130 brake at your age and no experience. Im on 965 with quinn on a 1.4 xsara and they are the cheapest by 300 and i have 3 years ncb full license with them. If i were to move to the same bora or a4 i actually will be quoted higher than you.
Im now limited to either change to a trueno or something as they all keep saying i need to be 21 for the usual teg altezza kind of things.

Do ya mind me asking where ya live. Before my friend had 1.6 corolla insured for 200 less than my 1.4 and he had 2 points. Think its due to fact he lived in sligo and me galway.

I got my A4 1.9 TDI 130BHP when I was 22 and I was with FBD at the time. I'm 24 now with 3 years NCB, 3 years named, full licience 4 years and 2 points, I'm paying €900 fully comp with Aviva with full NCB protection. When I was ringing around for quotes a month ago, 1 or 2 companies gave me the "it's too powerful" line and wouldn't quote... and I'm 24!

You're 19 and Quinn are giving you a 100bhp tdi for €1200, and you're complaining?

Ditch the A4. Quinn & Axa did the same with me. Get a 320d instead. Your insurance will be less than it is with a passat or A4 and AFAIK the least powerful engine with the 320d is 136bhp or something.

quinn are weird with that , i called them up and apparantly a 520d is performance and a 320d is not ? also they gave me a quote on a 323is but it was 3k , but wouldnt quote me on any 5 series, madness

    Quinn are nice and handy.

I bought my car in a leap of faith, (1.8t) and when I called up they refused to quote at first, but when I mentioned I already had the car in my posession they quoted me.

Not looking forward to the renewal though. :(

What limiter ? A 1.6 Golf won't go anywhere near the red line in top gear.
it would get to a point where the revs would peak and then dip and peak & dip over and over in the space of a couple of seconds. i assumed that was some kind of limiter but i'm open to correction, it was just an assumption. :)

Quinn are indeed odd. I was looking for insurance on my ITR last year and they told me they would flat out refuse to quote me on any car over 1600cc, regardless of the class of car. I was 26 at the time with 8 years full license and 2 years NCB...

My experience of limiters is that its a fairly sudden loss of power; my main experience of them was in a Supra which still had the JDM limiter in place and when she hit 180kmph it was like she completelty lost power for a fraction of a second so the revs dropped right back. Im not sure if its the same in all cars with limiters.

Ok, I find this a bit weird.

3 yrs full licence?? You can only get a provisional for a car when you are 17, you are now only 19 so where is the 3 years there??

being alowed 3yrs named driveing because i am only a few months frm 3yrs

Are you sure the cars you look are really 130 PS? Knowing Irish trait for going to basic model combined with the fact that all of the early 1.9 PD engines in VW were marked TDI until around 2003 when the 100 PS version was demoted back to TDI.

So a TDI can be either 100, 115, or 130. There's a sticker in the boot that tells what model it really is, 74KW being 100 PS.

when i type in reg into quinn website it says what make model etc .

130bhp high performance! ha ha ha! the driver is potentially much more dangerous than the car, whatever car it may be!

Im 25. I have an Audi A4 SE (2000) 1.9TDI 96kw(130BHP) I am insured with Quinn Direct €736 fully comp. Driving since im 18 and Full Licence at 19 years, 4 years NCB. The insurance quote I got was the best I could do. Some Insurance companies wouldnt even insure me on the car even with these details. They said the car was too powerful. :D Others were quoting me in the €1000's.. Unbelievable

Companies are funny. Quinn said two weeks ago flat out no to anything over 110bhp. I then asked about a gttdi golf 130 bhp or 150bhp and they had no problem quoting. When i asked him he had no real reply.
Then called axa and no to basically anything until i told them i had 3yr ncb. She then said insure a small litre car then just buy whatever and they would quote me on a teg, b4, silvia etc. Only trouble is she gave no hint as to what them quotes would be at all.

I cant believe that they would actively tell you to do that. Personally I wouldnt ever take a chance on buying a car without knowing how much its going to cost to get insured on it, but it would be interesting to know what would happen if you did follow her advise and were then refused insurance or quoted a massive price...

Ya i was surprised myself. First she said i was too young. I was about to leave it and she sayd what ncb. I said 3 and she goes 'oh well basically insure you on what you want but cant give a quote for new business'. i was grand with that and then she said to insure my 1.4 and then swap it. Id also not chance it myself as you could easily get caught. might just bide my time or try a different auto
