So! Survivor 21 is upon us, with the cast being revealed yesterday! The theme for the season is Old vs. Young, with a tribe of Under 30's taking on a tribe of Over 40's. Who will win this battle of the ages!

Should be a good season, but I think the odds are in favour of the youngsters. I hope I'm proved wrong!

What season is TG4 currently airing, and at what time/day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Can't wait - I'm amazed they never did the Young VS Old before to be honest... That'll be interesting...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭abelard

Looking forward to how they'll modify the challenges so as the younger tribe won't just dominate. I can definitely foresee a tribal shuffle pretty early in the game though...

Saw an ad for season 19 on TG4 there the other day, forget which day it's starting though.

    Think its sometime this week.

This is starting tonight. \o/ Looking forward to it. I hope they don't go overboard with the hidden immunity idols this year though like they did last year.

I just watched the first episode.

First impressions are that Marty will possibly annoy me, as will Holly. Actually, an awful lot of them are annoying me already.

What is with the weird names this year? Jud, Benry and Sash?

Immunity looks like a garden gnome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 763 ✭✭✭Bottleopener

Annoyed at Jimmy Johnson's OTT edit =P, I don't really care about him and hope he goes soon as he takes away from the other contestants :o. Not sure what to think so far, first impressions were hard to get, although I was disappointed Wendy went first, she seemed nice.

I don't think there was anyone too memorable in that group. I can't see this season being as good as the last few...

There's no Russell To hog airtime. That's a good sign for me :P

Ha totally agree about the garden gnome. For me I have always forgotten the first few contestants out by the end of the series. I love the fact that it's old against young, it really did need a new twist like that after 20 seasons.

First episode was ok. I'm just happy to have some Survivor back! Plenty of Jimmy Johnson, but it doesn't look like he's gonna last long. Jimmy T looks like he could be entertaining. Doesn't have a chance of winning though. Too much of a loud mouth right off the bath. Shannon looks like he'll prob talk himself out of the game. Marty looks like he might be a bit of a snake. Think he might be our villain this season if he gets enough time in there.

A little bit off topic, but I'd really love to get all seasons of Survivor on dvd or download. Does anyone know of anywhere I could get them all? Is there anywhere you can buy old Survivor seasons?

    What a second episode.

Na'Onka and Fabio for final 2 please! =P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

That was a brilliant second ep, this could be a classic series if some of the freaks manage to hang around, loved the bit with the shoes. The Asian cheerleader is seriously sexy.

Dear God, they're all nuts! It's great. :D I really enjoyed the second episode.

They remind me of if there was a season of the Casaya tribe from Panama :P

TG4 is showing Survivor: Samoa right now, which is season 19. In the USA right now they are showing Survivor: Nicaragua which is season 21 :)

That second episode was something else. Insane tribal council! If they're this nuts 6 days in, then things are going to get pretty crazy later on. Shame to see Shannon go so soon. Seems like he could have made for interesting tv. Holly's got to be the next to go, considering the youngs have the medallion of power (ugh... it even feels stupid to type it). She is way too bonkers to be able to turn things around for herself. Surely NaOnka won't last. She is gonna explode sooner or later. There is some really unbelievabley stupid people on this year. Shannon's tribal council performance, Holly confessing to the shoe escapade, Jill telling Marty where the HII was (!!), Dan bringing 1600 dollar shoes on Survivor, Judd in general.
But seriously, what was Jill thinking!? Had to laugh at Marty's "I found the idol, I found the idol!!... er, WE found the idol." He is not to be trusted at all. He's def gonna shaft her.

ya marty is one to watch id say. you usually know by the air time people are getting whether they are staying round so i imagine naonka and holly are going soon and the girls on the young tribe havent been seen yet so could be around a while... thank god shannon gone. '' are you gay'' ha!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Well thank God he's gone anyway. I was getting a bit sick of all the attention he was getting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Ah no, Jimmy T was great. Felt sorry for him there at tribal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 survivorfan

phew jimmy t is gone... one of the most annoying players ive seen. think jill from old tribe and benry or brenda from young tribe ones to watch..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Jimmy T really shot himself in the foot tbh. He was so needy. I didn't like him but he was actually pretty entertaining. I think I'm getting the hang of this not just wanting the nice people to stay thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭johnnycnandy

Not many likeable players in this season. Brenda is completely dominating the younger tribe. I really want to see Na'Onka go next. It's just getting difficult to watch her. I'm starting to get the feeling that some completely pointless player is gonna win this season. Someone like Purple Kelly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

Not really lovin' this season yet. How bad was the older tribe's players' lack of willingness to say who they wanted out? Probably a switch next week, and hopefully Marty will stir something up.

I'm really enjoying this season so far. So many guys gone in a row! This must be some kind of record :P.

Na'Onka really appears to be in a bad way, I'm guessing she's gone soon.

Marty could be in a lot of trouble, is it possible there'll be a major blindside coming up? I don't like the lack of visibility Kelly S and Sash are getting - particularly Kelly S - she hasn't had a single confessional yet, what on earth are the editors up to?

Can't wait for next week, it looks like it could be a
    double elimination?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 survivorfan

like the thinking of lack of video time but chances are that means they just win aload of immunities in a row when it gets down to it. wouldnt necessarily say its them winning. reminds me of morgan way back when who was never on tv and then won aload of immunities. pearl islands i think... and bottleopener that would be very very interesting if it did happen!
not sure best move to vote tyrone, naonka and the old guy aint up to much at all...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 survivorfan

why are la flor keeping M in the whole time.... beats me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 763 ✭✭✭Bottleopener

I'm guessing they think he'd be easier to work with after the merge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭johnnycnandy

Maybe Sash and Brenda just aren't that worried about him. Marty's not nearly as smart as thinks he is. He's made 2 suicidal moves 2 weeks in a row now and he's very lucky to still be in the game. Tribal was good this week with Sash's slip up. Things could get interesting between him and Brenda down the line. They both seem like good players.

Marty's edit has been very confusing for me all along. They made him out to be the powerhouse all along, when actually he was in an equal 3 way alliance with Jill and Yve. They made Jill out to be a follower and completely edited Yve out of the alliance. Really bizarre.

Sash is playing a good game. He sees the value of taking NaOnka to the end while also distancing himself from her after the food robbing. He's also pretty much guarenteed to get Marty's vote now because he kept his word and protected him from the chop again this week. Strange that Brenda didn't see through his reasoning for keeping Marty around this week.
Just doesn't seem like there is any players left that are smart enough to stop Sash/Brenda/NaOnka. Purple Kelly, Holly and Jane are happy enough to follow along until their time is up. Fabio is on another planet. Dan is completely pointless. Marty doesn't have any numbers or the ability to turn people. Hard to know where Chase's head is at this point. Benry is the only person I could see trying to pull something together. Too bad he's the biggest jackass in the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Jane really really annoyed me this week. She's so bitchy and she was so smug when she beat Marty. It was great to see her face when Marty wasn't voted out.

I really dislike Jane, everything about her seems so fake, it's like she's playing to the cameras to get popular and win the "America's favourite player" prize. Her random hatred of Marty and Jill was bizarre too, and Jill shed some light on this in post show interviews - it really was purely random.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

I get the impression that she's a bit simple, and even if she did make it to the end that none of the younger crowd would vote for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

I always instantly dislike the good old down south all American yee-haw character that shows up on Survivor every year, they always seem so fake.

    I'm gonna miss
    Marty.
He made big moves and ran his mouth off all the time. Good entertainment. At least he went out with a bang. His voting confessional and strut afterwards were hilarious. Man' I'm gonna be so pissed if this Jane/Chase/Holly alliance make it to the end.

delighted who was voted out this week.sash and brenda are the two that need to b stopped, dont think the other members of the alliance are devious enough.... think kelly purple must win a load of challenges or somthing as she is never on talking...

Tbh, I think it's because when she does talk, she sounds like a moron.

Brenda and Sash were stupid to vote Marty out. He commanded far less of the tribe, while Jane was much more powerful. They could have relied on him to feed them information, but I guess their egos got the better of them, thinking that he was running the show and not them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 survivorfan

Aard I was thinking the same thing about purple kelly but didn't wanna say. her one confessional made her sound a bit simple alright...

I think Sash and Brenda are in a bit of trouble. They went from being in charge to being caught between 2 alliances in Benry/Fabio/Dan and Jane/Chase/Holly/Nay. They'll have to choose one to join, which means they'll be bottom of the totem pole in which ever one they choose. Good thing for Sash that he has the immunity idol, but I think they should have listened to Marty this week and ousted Jane.

As for Kelly Purple, I completely forgot she was in the game. Who's alliance is she even a part of anymore??

Kelly Purple is in with Jane/Chase/Holly/Nay.

I think that's precisely it :P. I saw some of her insider vids too, she really isn't the sharpest tool in the box.

Haven't really enjoyed this season very much. None of the contestants stand out that much. Marty was probably the best of a bad bunch. Can't stand Jane.
Kinda want to see Fabio win it at this point, but I doubt he'll come close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

Last episode was pretty good. Glad that Brenda was gone, and that Kelly Purple had another chance to shine. Even the contestants think she's for the birds.

    Aard wrote: »

She'll probably win it so. Kelly P is playing a superb game of riding coat tails. There is nothing to either like or hate about her. She isn't a physical or mental threat.

Like always, she'll win it by default, because the jury won't want to give the money to anyone else.

Like others, this season really isn't all that memorable. Nobody is really standing out that much. Naonka, for being as ghetto trash as she is, is like a cliché.

I've also been fairly unimpressed by the challenges (I guess mainly because nobody is dominating them)

meh... we'll see how it goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

The challenges leave me wanting, too. They seem pretty simple, kind of "home-made".

The whole season is giving me Thailand flashbacks.

I'm rooting for Holly at the moment. She seems to be making moves, is fun to watch, and has that classic Survivor underhanded pleasantness. Unlike Jane who has unendearing in-your-face obnoxioiusness.
