Is that the one beside Hot Spot?

Stopped getting food from there after CL One opened. Massive gulf in quality. Last time we did get food there the portions were tiny. Madness at a time when folks are demanding better value for money. Clearly portion control isn't the only place where corners were cut.

Not Surprised its been going down Hill since they got new Owners used to be great. Chinese in Kilcoole is good.

I've had takeaways from there loads of times (and survived) but by choice I generally go for the Royal Park. For a long time it was Greystones only Chinese - I think its been around since the early 80s.

I think they are planning to reopen, from what I understood from the sign. Possibly they have to succeed in meeting regulations, and changing the kitchen setup. Although nesting pigeons could be omenous.

Correct. The old Cherry Blossom Special was a life saver after a rake of pints in the stables

On the positive side, when it re-opens it will probably be the best. I expect it will be regularly scrutinised by the FSAI and the owners will be anxious to restore their business.

I seriously doubt it, would you back to a place that's been closed down by a food safety authority, I know I wouldn't !

I dont feel they deserve our custom when they've been obviously not worrying about our health.

There is a bunch of places all over the place that get closed down for a few days, rectify the problem, and get the licence to reopen. We don't usually get to find out which places they are, as it's usually under the guise of 'renovations'. They did do a name and shame in the mentioned article though...

you can see enforced closures here, though it doesn't give the specifics of why a premises has been ordered to close.

It wasn't closed down to issues with the food but a potential for issues.

Also the best Chinese in Greystones, eaten there loads of times over the year. Loads of food and free calendars at Christmas.

The Royal Park is the biggest ripoff in Ireland, tiny boxes of food and the couple who run it!! Last year we went for Chinese New Year and they put a 15% service charge on the bill.

When I queried the service charge they told me it was because their staff had to work on a holiday!!! Gung Hei F Off next year

Cherry Blossom will be back in full swing very soon.

    What???

Every restaurant has a "potential for issues" if not kept clean and hygienic. I'm actually surprised that so few restaurants/food outlets are closed. There has to be a serious risk of infection for a closure notice to be slapped on a place.

If you know something we don't as to why the Cherry Blossom was closed, then tell us....

When/if it re-opens, you'll certainly get fast service, as you'll be their only customer - apart from people who live on Cloud 9 and aren't clued in to daily life...

Clues in? So you wouldn't eat at fully cleared place only one that hasn't been caught. Makes sense.... In reverso land

Obviously apart from the taste, the most important aspect of running a restaurant is cleanliness and hygiene. I wouldnt set food in a place that has been closed down and reopened by the same owners. It speaks volumes about them.

all restaurants get inspected - the others haven't been closed down because they passed the inspections. Your logic has more holes in it than a packet of polos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 209 ✭✭darter

There seems to be a correlation between having eaten at the Cherry Blossom "loads of times over the year" and complete lack of logic..

Oh wait! That's why it was closed! The inspectors found a concentration of illogical people in Greystones, and were able to identify the food from the Cherry Blossom as the source of the infection...

I know i could be speculating but dont the FSAI inspect then give
A list of what is to be fixed.Closure is a last resort. We have had visits from health and safety tell you what needs to be fixed you fix it its all good no closure

I expect it would depend on the gravity of the non-compliance with the standard required.

A premisies can be closed for many reasons, Nothing to do with food safety. For example the kitchen coud be too small. While they manage food hygiene well it may not conform to HACCP, I was working in a place once where we didnt display our HACCP sheets and they threatened to close it. And its true that you should go to a premise after reopening as you can be sure it meets the standards (unlike others who have not be spot checked). Also with regard to CB I think the food there has imporved very much recently (I believe some chefs were replaced).

Guesswork and conjecture is leading us nowhere. Given that the majority of reasons for issuing a Closure Order are to do with Food Hygiene, the safe, prudent and logical choice is to avoid this outlet, regardless of the quality of the kitchen staff, until such time as the owner comes clean about why he received the Closure Order and what he did in response.

Perhaps those of you who are brave enough can ask him next time you order from there - as in both brave enough to eat the food and also brave enough to ask.

nobody's mentioned asian scent. We've eaten from there many times and never any complaints. Didn't like kilcoole or one although only tried them once. Bad first impressions. Indian spice is a regular too, a bit annoying there though cause their recession buster, cheaper prices is actually just smaller portions! A bit cheeky.

After being back in UK and paying 15 quid for a curry it is annoying to pay twice as much. Having said that it is very good. Just wish they'd cook their spuds a bit longer!

Jesus I love the food from the Cherry Blossom. Grew up getting take out from there. Shocked when I heard it had to close, but sod it, I never got sick from eating their food and I was never disapointed.

I did notice the portions had gotten slightly smaller recently though..

They were not closed because of people getting sick or something like that. the FSAI decided that their kitchen was too small - so the place was closed while the kitchen was enlarged. That is all that has changed.

    They wouldn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Conan The Contrarian

Mitch is correct about the reason for the closure. It had NOTHING to do with food hygiene or customer safety, and everything to do with a potential health & safety risk to his kitchen staff. I spoke with the owner, Ray Chung, last week and he confirmed that it was because the authorities felt there was a potential H&S issue for his chefs over the size of their workspace. Basically, the old kitchen was considered to be too small if things got really busy and you had 3 or 4 chefs working in there simultaneously, potentially bumping into each other with pots of boiling water, oil, etc. A couple of months back, he was asked to extend the kitchen accordingly, but never got round to it. Big mistake, for which he is now paying the price. When the inspectors came by again and saw the changes hadn't been implemented, they closed him down. That place has been going for about 25 years, first under his father and now under Ray, and had built up a great reputation in Greystones and beyond for quality food at good prices. It would be a real pity if it were to lose all its business now because of some ill-founded, ill-informed and ignorant rumours about the reason for the closure.

Conan, Well put!! Exactly what I was trying to say but wasn't at liberty to divulge.

The Cherry Blossom is an institution in Greystones... long may it continue

well, if the FSAI don't put the specific reason on their website then there is bound to be speculation and people will assume the worst (after all their primary role is assuring "Food Safety") - he should have been aware of the how the system operates and paid more attention to the initial warning.

I'd imagine he's lost a fair bit of business - perhaps he should distribute a few flyers with an explanation and discount vouchers to get people back?
