iPhone 4 on 3 ... cheap way to access voicemail?

I switched from o2 to 3 when I got the iPhone 4 last week.

I'm on the "super-flex max" plan for €60/month, but am already incurring extra charges for assessing my voicemail (voicemail is extra ... does not come out of flexi-units). I was hoping to access voicemail from my work landline, but when I dail my number ... 086 5 xxx xxxx ... I get asked for my password. I have no idea what this is, and 3 dont seem to know either.

So, what is this password, and how do I find it? I've tried 0000 and it doesnt work.

Also, are there any other cheap (or free) ways to access voicemail on 3?

Can't you go to your setting menu and set the password via there, you may have never set up one hence you don't know it. Have you set up voicemail yet?
You'll need to dial 171. You'll also need to video call 171 to set up your videomail on 3.:)

Can you not set the pin if you log in through your phone?

I've set up my voicemail thro 171, but was not asked for a password anywhere. Maybe I can set this up through one of the options in 171 ... anyone know?

Are there any other ways to assess voicemail on the iPhone without being charged extra? I asked 3 tech support about this and they said "no" ... is this true, or has some clever boardsie managed to find a way?

    not on iphone tariffs afaik.

there's another thread floating around giving instructions how to get 3 voicemail for free. not confirmed if it works though as i haven't seen a detailed bill yet. most here say it does.

3 to 3 calls are free arent they? Is that not a 3 number?

I just checked on my bill and the 0833333171 call is logged and there was no charge. So it is free after all but only via 3 to 3.

Sorry, just seen evidence in another thread (post by pah) that they actually do charge, so scrap. Maybe my call was a glitch?

So even if I access my voicemail from a landline in work I'll still be charged on my 3 mobile bill for accessing voicemail??????

No, the charge will be made to landline number. I'm just gonna deactivate mine.

Is anyone else pissed off that the sneaky gits at three don't have any information about the new voicemail charge on their website, that they are the only mobile operator charging for voicemail....I mean it's a joke...I haven't paid for a voicemail in 5 years plus ...and now because three have pulled a fast one we're supposed to suck it up.......not happy......you can't even use your flexiunits...

everyone should complain next time they are on to customer service and put some pressure on three to remove this rip off!!

Hey, I've just been onto customer care and am stunned by this. Whatever about charging for it, but not letting you take it from your minutes is robbery.

I notice this is an old post, has the 0835..... thing worked OK?

What a joke, he told me it's only for people on data plans. WTF has voicemail got to do with whether you're on a data plan or not??

Hang on, so if I call 083 5 xxxxxxx it still charges me just as it does when I call voicemail normally?

Can someone confirm this is happening please?

Guys get the Hullomail app from the app store. It's free and will allow you to download and listen to your voicemail, using your data allowance and not costing a penny!

I'm on 3 and use it and it works great! No more voicemail charges :)

Am I the only one who has never ever bothered with voice mail? I just ring the person back. And if they don't answer I deem it not important.

Three network is a joke... I have the iPhone 4 and I bought it on the three network and boy am I sorry.
First issue: I thought i lost my phone so I went into the carphoneware house where I bought it, complete with garda report (for the insurance claim) and reported it missing. Straight away they rang 3 and locked the phone. Then carphone sorted me with a phone and my same number etc. Perfect! Then a friend of mine rand me and said he found my iPhone in his car, so I went back the carphone and told them I found it and we all had a great laugh about etc. We rang 3 in order to switch back on my micro sim etc. They said I'd have to get a new Microsim (but keep the number) that was grand, carphone were going giving me the sim for free. Then 3 said they wanted €19 to activate the microsim. The lad in the carp shop argued with the 3 rep for some time but got no where he even handed over the phone to me to have a word with him, but no good, they wanted €19 and that was it! So i paid it.

Anyway over the few months there has been a few occurances, being charged twice when topping up online etc, and i Just noticed one of those wasnt refunded! So I've decided enough is enough, I want to change network. I ring 3 to get the unlocking code and they as its an iPhone they want €27 to unlock it!!!!!! Now I know its not a lot of money but when you've paid €600 for a mobile phone I find this a bit too much. Especially since they (by law) have top provide you with your unlocking code. Its a disgrace like. They said it was a charge which Apple charged... I contacted Apple about this anf guess what they said?... Yup, you guessed it, there is no such charge on their behalf.

I just think iPhone users pay alot of money for there phones and I think its a disgrace that we jerked around by a donkey of a network like 3!
