Was chatting about this last night, and how silly some of the questions are.

When driving when its getting dark do you...........?
    a). Light up a cigarette
    b). Turn on your lights
    c). Turn up the radio
d). Stop the car and go for a sleep

Has anyone failed this test, and how embarrassed were you ?

    Bahahahahaha No.

I really hope there aren't people out there who have...

The answer is of course A.
People will see you in the dark if you are smoking.
    Plus you look cool.

I've never heard of anyone failing it.

I only got 39/40 and was embarrassed enough about that! :o

I like the one that goes something like "You are running late for a meeting, what should you do"

    A) Drive aggressively
    B) Drive safely as to arrive on time.

    Who would pick A ffs!?!

I failed the theory the first time, went in with the 'ah this will be a piece of pi$$ so theres no point studying' attitude.

Passed my full test first time, thats the only 'first time club' worth being in.

My brother failed it, never went to do it again and now bums lifts of my dad.
He got 33 right out of the 40.

I did it last year and i reckon they've made it a lot harder.
Either that or they marked it wrong
I didn't do a whole lot for it, just learned the stopping distances
and hard to guess stuff and got 35 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭Sea Sharp

They made it more difficult in recent years.
These days you'll get 20 retard-proof questions but that isn't enough to pass.

A few of my friends failed :o Not I of course, I studied the book and bought the cd rom *Adjusts nerd glasses*

    I think there about 5 difficult(ish) questions.

Don't get me started on the actual driving test though  Only got that second time around.

There are children playing up ahead. Do you
    a> Slow down
b> Speed up to get past them quickly

    Jesus like...

  • I saw some girl's Facebook page the other day and it said something like 'Going to take the theory test again, third time lucky!' The questions aren't anywhere near as easy as what people are writing here, but they're still not that hard. I just did mine a couple of years ago.

How could that girl admit to that?

To be fair, they are pretty easy! The answer is there in front of you.

Its alot harder in the actual driving test and he asks you the questions AND you're dealing with nerves before the test!

She obviously didn't think it was that embarrassing. That's the worst part.

Well, yeah, they're easy enough, but when I did it, it wasn't like there was one obvious answer and three completely stupid ones. Often, 2 answers were similar enough and if you really had no idea about driving, you'd get it wrong.

Done mine start of the year and got 39. The only thing I done to prepare was get the CD and did the test about 5 times on the PC about 2 hours before I went in.

Know a mate's girlfriend who bought a car but has failed the test 5+ times and gave up and had to sell the car. Literally the most embarrassing thing i've ever heard. She is thick as sh1t though...

I'm taking mine in the next few months, the questions look piss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 fluffo

There are definitely some very very easy questions.

I remember being asked "what does this sign mean?"

    It was a stop sign.

Although in fairness, there are some questions I had to learn the answers to. There's a good few about the stopping distance required when in snow/ice/rain etc. and the choices were all very similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭johnmcdnl

30 of of 40 question are pi$$ easy - but the other 10ish generally require you to know a wee bit - some of the pictures about who's in the right position are just pure awkward to look at and take time to figure out...
and you have to know some things like stopping distances and stuff like that - but it's really common sense tbh..

saying that I can see why certain girls especially fail it because there's several questions about driving and what happens if the engine does this or that... what happens if your brakes fail...
if you know anything about driving at all you should get 34/35 no problem at all - and if you use the CD a couple of times you should get 38/39/40 easily enough

i got full marks, but that was when i was 16, *gulp* nine years ago :(, they've made it more difficult i hear.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

I'd say large portion of drivers would fail the test without any preparation for it tbh.

Imagine it; Dad will you give me a lift?......FFS son your 38 years old, when are you gonna learn to drive!!??

    :D

I past mine first time. A cousin of mine failed his THREE times and still has not passed. He aint the sharpest of people.

When I asked him how the **** could he not pass it he said, ''they just keep making it harder Danny''

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I remember taking that. Did all the preparatory material, read the book, gave the test a few goes on the PC. Grand, says I. Head into the test centre, start cracking through the first few questions, piss easy, then they started veering disturbingly into material the preparatory stuff hadn't feckin' touched on! Still passed, mind (38), but it really was a wee bit tougher than I expected.

    Certain girls? OK.....

I actually got 40/40 and was the first to finish up and leave the room, so I did better than most people here saying it was 'p*ss easy'. It's hardly rocket science but I think it does need a little bit of preparation, especially if you've never been behind the wheel of a car before (which I hadn't).

Thing about driving tests is you can pass with flying colours & still be a sh!te driver.:)

Parents nextdoor neighbour passed her test last year & she is quite simply a terrible terrible driver. Her car is covered in little dents & scratches from numerous little collisions & even her own father said he was amazed she passed her test.

So basically the test means sh!t as far as overall driving ability is concerned.

Ditto although I did go to school with a guy who managed to fail the test first time round.

My friend attempted the test as Gaeilge and failed miserably.

I still don't understand why she did that if her Irish wasn't good enough. Silly!

Of course the classical way to pass that used be to refuse to recognise the examiner.

I booked mine online and had to take it in Irish since I didnt read the site correctly (had to pay to repeat whether I took it in Irish and failed or just didnt go). Very proud to say I passed with 38/40 even though my Irish isn't great. I think that says a lot about how easy the test is.[/boast:D]
Cant drive to save my life though (:o) so I thinks its a pointless exam.

There are only 3 Golden Rules of Driving that you have to remember:

    1. Green means 'Go'.
    2. Amber means 'Go Faster' and
    3. Red means 'First 10 Cars Only'.

Did mine just over an hour ago. 39/40 - w00t! (Not sure which one I got wrong, and don't particularly care tbh.) Considering I only had an old edition of the book and came across one or two questions I hadn't seen before, I'm quite happy. :)

A friend of my sister had to do his three or four times; he's now a postman!

I failed first time, but the test was flawed as the questions were still in mph and I had learned them in kph. This was just after the changeover. I complained and got to resit the test free of charge and passed.

The main question is, if you failed it would you have the balls to even admit it!

I took the "pf this is easy why bother" attitude and failed the first time.
Some of them had a couple of answers which both looked reasonable.
Anyway I copped on and got it the second time :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Corsendonk

Did mine the first year it came out, 38/40 in 20mins, even had time to reread and fill out the customer survey in the 20mins. The woman behind me started to cry ten mins into the test and the testers had to come in to get her to leave when she started to distract people with her crying...........some people just aint up to exams.
