I think I remember someone posting this track in one of the threads a few months ago... I just heard it in the petrol station this afternoon. Where will this lead I wonder...

    I'm on it!!

Just have to set up the relevant Sub Genre Greatist Latest Bestest Thread.

Heard it on Chemical Records a few months ago, and thought that it eh, definitely stood out from the pack. It's all over the commercial stations at the moment.

As for the new Sub Genre, why don't they just call it what it is, a Novelty Record.

Surprised you only heard it for the first time yesterday. It's been pretty ubiquitous for the last month; think it topped the UK charts for a week or two.

I've had some of those tracks for a while, think some are fairly decent

Really like Gramaphonedzie and Jesse Rose-Night at the Dogs/Mr Scruff-Get a Move On

I've never heard that kind of stuff called electro-swing before...I thought it was called Gypsy house or balkan?

I used to like that track when it came out, but it wrecks my head now. Way too overplayed, same with that Gramaphonedzie track.

id give the aul one in crystal swing a diddle aswell. like a light

Nah, its astroturf. Had in the front room but had to get it taken back out. Burns you worse than carpet when you're making the beast with two backs.

I had a listen to some of those tunes and they really are the most cynically made records I've heard in a long time. Find some old, out of copyright jazz and swing records, slap a beat on it and hey presto, electro swing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

The thing I hate about any of those gimmicky sub genres is why would you want to make a load of them? Making one track is fair enough but making a whole heap of them. The "uniqueness" gets old very quickly.

Yes this type of sh.it has been done before & very badly aswell,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,172 ✭✭✭Flojo

Wow... it's just a music genre. I love swing music... I love electro music BAM mix the two and hey presto they go really well together.

Here's an example. Kormac does more than just slapping a beat on it.

    Which track is a classic?

The felix remix of a great Nina Simone song?

    Or Nina Simone's great song?

You see i just dont go in for remixing old good music into Rave tunes, lacking genuine creativity.

Both are good. Don't get why you can be a bit open-minded and appreciate a song in different forms. It can liven up old classics and make them more fun to dance to. Nothing wrong with that and if people are able to make money out of it well then good enough for them!

If i am in a Rave i want to hear electronic sounds that dont remind me of another time, era, style of music (limited exceptions), time and place other than the rave.

I have a very open mind when it comes to music i might add, & listen to a broad spectrum of music from different era's, i just dont think it crosses over well at all with rave music. Same goes for majority of cover versions, most are absolute cack with a few limited exceptions but again dont remix good old songs into rave tunes, doesnt sound good really just sounds gimmicky & unimaginative.

"Rave music"? I'm sorry but are you from the past? :p You do realise that there are many different types of electro music yeah? This being one.
You don't like it yeah fair enough but don't say it lacks creativity.
Kormac makes his own tunes with a few samples, he even has a live band perfom with him on stage sometimes... but are you saying the links I put up here are not creative... wow!
Plenty of people love hearing songs they love remixed in a decent way, especially if they can now dance to it and let loose.
I don't get how you can knock covers just because of the fact that they are...covers! Music doesn't HAVE to be really imaginative.. aslong as you enjoy it who cares?

    Love the tone Flojo.

Heres a radical idea, what you personally think is good music other people think is fcuking ****e.
"Rave music"? I'm sorry but are you from the past? tongue.gif You do realise that there are many different types of electro music yeah?

if were gonna be pedantic and slag off each other for the words they use lets have a look at "Electro music".
    The term is Electronic music.

Some people think some music just shouldnt be subjected to dance makeovers and alot of people dont like when songs with soul get butchered into dancefloor fodder for the likes of you and your mates.

There entitled to there opinion and so are you

As for kormac, yeah his tracks are alright but people will get sick of that sound fairly quick if thats all he does.

It isnt very imaginative in this day and age to sample swing tracks and stick a beat under them.
what he does live is a different story but like i said in the digital world we live in sampling these tracks isnt at all difficult

Now is there a market for it,yeah probably and its happening again with people sampling and chopping disco tracks. Some work well, some dont

Agreed some do work well.. which is why I'm here defending it.

Incase you were selectively reading which I suspect you are... I previously stated that not all electroswing is as shite as the examples people are giving here! Christ.
People are making out that some tracks are a cardinal sin and saying it lacks creativity.. fair enough with the former.. they obviously just don't like the song but don't say it lacks creativity and saying "they just slapped a beat onto it" when that is far from the truth.

To be honest thats all he does seem to be doing and chopping it up.so its not far from the truth,it appears to be the truth
seriously with programmes like ableton live out there this sort of track is very easily made.

it might have taken some skill years ago when it was all hardware samplers but nowadays its ridiculously easy.

These sort of tracks should be used very sparingly,a whole night of it or even half and hour of it would be borderline offensive.

i did say i thought Kormac's music was alright but all his tracks are the same basic formula

People were only having a laugh with you,you seem to be taking this joke of a genre very seriously

btw the IT crowd is ****e

You're really missing the point aren't you? He doesn't just slap any old beat onto it then bobs your uncle the song is done.. he has to create the beats and add the different ones together, have them match up and sound good at certain parts and mix the samples into it aswell at key parts. He does an amazing job of it and no wonder he's extremely popular he's deserves it.

I just asked a very successful DJ friend how easy it would be to create a decent track with that kind of stuff(ableton) and he says not very.. any idiot can create a track but you need to be creative for it to be decent.
Well the 200+ people who do be at most of Kormacs gigs don't seem to think so. His songs aren't samey just like all the swing back in the 50's wasn't either!

Oh and by the way... I just noticed you do remixes of songs... kinda like sampling music which is already eletronic(making it super easy) and adding a different beat to it... go you!! Wonder who gets the most attendance at gigs... you or Kormac?

I think I'll refrain from childish retorts.
