I want a late 90's/early 00's Merc SL so badly it makes my nuts hurt. They are frustratingly cheap nowadays.

But the problem is obvious. The Goddam tax is just so off-putting and when you throw in the fact an SL would cost a few k more than a less flashy alternative, and the fact insurance and fuel economy will also likely be harsh, and I've calculated it would cost me well over €10k more than an alternative over 5 years. Play safe instead with a respectable A3 or 3-Series or whatever and you have €10k more in your pocket in 5 years. Ouch.

I dunno, it bugs the crap out of me to see such beautiful cars so cheap, but I just don't think I can justify that €10k. And perhaps another €10k after that if I've caught the bug and want a replacement in 5 years. Sigh & whimper.
