    Hi
what's the beat item for keeping track of distance, speed etc while running/cycling?
Currently I have an iPhone and use Runkeeper. It's great expect thy the iPhone is big & I have to have a seperate mp3 player as I don't have multi tasking (had but removed it)

the Garmins are meant to be good. Us there any way to upload data from one to the net so U can keep track of all runs/cycles? What price do they begin at, not cheap I think.
Nike + is also meant to be good. Do I need 'chip' in my runner or does the new Nike warchlike thing/USB do the job? I think I need both. Anybody use it and what do u think ?
Do the 'newish' iPod nanos track distance speed etc?
    Any alternatives?
I'd prefer not to spend a few hundred on a solution.
    Cheers,
    Pa

Lidl have a gps watch coming in a week or two. Check out their website.

You can pick up a second hand garmin 305 for about 100 or less and it'll really help your training

You don't need to spend a penny, you can upgrade your phone to the new iOS 4 and install the lastest version of RunKeeper which supports multitasking :)

Thanks. Think I might be more inclined to go for the 'watch' option- I know it'll cost but it means you can check how your doing easier (look at wrist) and is less bulky that having phone on you.

You can get a running strap (armband) for your iPhone.

You don't need backgrounding / multitasking or IOS 4 to do what you want.

Get this for around 3 euro:

(I have one and they're bang on)

Start playing the music on your ipod app on the iphone before you start runkeeper. Start runkeeper and the music keeps playing. If you want to get to the ipod functionality while runkeeper is runkeeping double press the home button and the basic controls (play, pause, next track etc.) come up.

I was wondering about this too. I'm on week 5 of couch to 5k - and have recently started running in the world and not in a gym, and would really like to know how far I'm running in my 30+ minutes.

I have been messing about with Nike+ thing - but cant get the receiver to talk to my phone so I think I will try a few things once more and after that its going in the bin :)

Some of those apps do seem good tho, could be the solution :)

If you have an iphone the mapmyrun app is savage (and free). Tracks your whole run on a map. Your speed. The time the run took. Your distance. Your average pace over the distance. Really good stuff. I have found it super useful as a training tool. Once you have your album of choice kicked off before you start it on the older iphone OS's (I'm on ios4 now as of yesterday) you should be grand.

    Thats absolutely perfect Khannie, thanks!

I thought the run I was doing was around 3k, and it turns out its 4.9k :)

Cheers Khannie for the heads up on MapMyRun,
I've started running on non gym days and I was wondering how far I was going. I can now find out, and keep time.

    All free as well.
