Advice on strength.....

Just looking for a bit of advice on my workout routine...My stats are as follows:
    Age-19
    Weight-72kg
    Height- 5ft 11"
    Body Fat %-12 %
    BMI- 22.65

Workout consists on 1 hour in gym at break time on the rower, treadmill or bike, getting a bit of cardio in.

Either in the morning or evening I would do a 30-40min interval training incorporating weights and body weight exercises.

The exercises I do are squats;lunges;press ups;dead-lift and box jumps and sit ups all with added weight.

However I am a little embarrassed as today one of my collages was in the gym and he asked me to spot him on his bench press. After he was finished, he returned the favour and the results were pretty dam poor. 1 could only manage 8*3 at 45kg!!

I have never bench pressed before and am wondering how do i improve my upper body strength as I am somewhat in shape in respect to my cardiovascular system.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, however I am fed up at looking at the starting strength thingy!

    Thanks,
    Frank

Everyone starts somewhere! First time I benched I think I managed something like 35kg

531, buy it, read it and then do it!

You should be doing push ups, inverterd rows, chins and dips. They should be enough at the moment to get your upper body stronger.

Also learn how to bench with proper technique and learn how to overhead press too. Focus on learning correct technique while doing the bodyweight stuff then move onto the weighted stuff!
