    ... has been announced.

The names of the new afternoon shows are pretty bad. Maura Derrane has her own show, followed by Daithí Ó Sé and Claire Byrne. The BOC Saturday Night show has been commissioned for a longer run.Nothing very interesting besides.

    Edit: RTÉ site info here.
Edit2: Craig Doyle will be presenting the Panel

The popular Reeling in the Years series will be brought up to date by covering the Noughties.
About the only thing of interest tbh. Snoozeville otherwise.

The public will also be asked to vote on Ireland’s Greatest Person . The final five involved will be John Hume, Michael Collins, Bono, James Connolly and Mary Robinson.
Those are the greatest 5 people this country has ever produced!? FFFFUUUUUUUU!!
the five-part The Story of Ireland , a co-production with the BBC
The BBC is involved so it might be decent. :pac:

Comedian Brendan O'Carroll introduces us to colourful world of Mrs Brown and her extended family. Agnes Brown runs a fruit and vegetable stall on the Moore Street market, but the most important part of her day is interfering in the lives of her six children: Rory, Cathy, Trevor, Mark, Dermot and Simon.

This is going to be a 6 part series on on Sunday nights

Yup, I can see this being unintentionally brilliant... Kinda like Quizone (meant to be a serious quiz show for kids, actually a hilarious comedy for students, stoners and wasters)...

Why would anyone give Maura Derrane a show?
The one after that with Daithí Ó Sé and Claire Byrne could be fairly decent, though...

    Love/Hate should be decent enough...

New Reeling In The Years is always good...

Too be honest I reckon Craig Doyle will do a better job at hosting the Panel than the muppet who presented it this year, but I'm still not gonna watch - The Panel lost the run of itself years ago... Its only good if you go see it live... Unfortunately they edit the best bits out of it...

The Phoebe Prince documentary is one I'll be particularly interested in seeing...

I wouldn't rate any of those people as Ireland's Greatest Person... Collins should definitely be in the running, but I definitely wouldn't have the other 4 in there... What about Phil Lynott? Ronnie Drew? Roddy Doyle? John B. Keane? Brendan Gleeson? Richard Harris? Bosco? That's only to name a few who are greater than the people RTÉ have chosen...

    My highlights -

    * Reeling in the Years (Season 5) makes its long awaited return, for the 2000s. Don't worry if you miss this, it will be likely repeated ad infinum just like the previous series.
    * Raw (Season 3) - yes, more of the irrepressible JoJo and she has an evil cousin this time...
    * The Panel (Season 10) this really has to be the last throw of the dice (but I've said that every year since Daire O'Brien left), Craig Doyle will surely be better than the too-serious McWilliams though.
    * The Saturday Show (Season 2) I probably won't see any of this but can't believe Brendan O'Connor has been given this slot...
    * Trivia (New Series) comedy about a pub quiz team, may be interesting...
    * Republic of Telly (Season 2) - welcome return for this

    And lowlights-
    * Mrs Brown's Boys (New Series) Brendan O'Carroll sitcom, hmm...
    * OMG, It's Jedward! (One-off). Enough said.
    * Don't Tell The Bride (RTÉ) (Pilot) Really, have we resorted to importing daft BBC Three formats?
    * One Night Stand (New Series) Sounds like that Brendan Courtney vehicle from a couple of years ago but without the exotic location aspect to it, instead Jennifer Maguire travels round Ireland...

    And shocks -
    * Cancelled - The Den!!!! Two new strands will replace it in the autumn.
    * No mention of the RTÉ News on 2 retool with Charlie Bird that was supposed to occur.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 647 ✭✭✭Namabillion

IT says here there is a new series of anonymous staring in october. I thought byrne refused funding for a fifth series.

After 25 years on the Air :( next PBS will cancel Sesame Street. Why get rid of a strong brand? (Two new brands I believe are either TRTÉ or RTÉ Junior (I would have rebranded the Radio Station as THE DEN radio).

There might be a reason why they choose not to go with a rebrand of News On Two with Charlie Bird (.... other new shows are bad enough).

Patience, grasshopper. Charlie is being rehabilitated for our consumption. Slowly. First, we must become recalibrated to the sound of him, before we see him...
Charlie Bird has flown on to Marian Finucane's perch with the news hack set to take over from RTE's €570k star for a month of her summer holidays.

A tiny bit OTT but just to mention that The Muppets are not Sesame Street even if there is some crossing over of characters. And I always preferred Looney Toons to Tom And Jerry.

Charlie is standing in for Marian Finucane.

If they could find a programme for Michael McDowell, why not Lorraine Keane?

    http://www.examiner.ie/ireland/fresh-faces-line-out-for-rte-127148.html

Keeping up a recent RTÉ tradition of finding broadcast roles for former PD politicians, former minister for justice Micheal McDowell will be presenting the show on his hero Michael Collins.

Lorraine Keane is too nice a girl. "Hero" Micheal Collins perhaps he would be better off doing an expose of that new over priced prison of his or how his grandfather left his own constituency in NI.

I think comedy wise RTÉ have nothing to write home about, the comedies announce are fairly average.

Triva, Mrs. Brown, Mattie and even The Panel all fit into playing it save, while it will be interesting to see Hardy Bucks make the move to TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,092 ✭✭✭CiaranMT

Hopefully the Bucks will be able to keep the same formula that served them so well in their Youtube videos! And I'm gonna be away for it an all..
