handy leaflet in it so if the farmer asks a question you have all the info condensed into a small sheet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭tfox

Guy from the NPWS rang me today asking me all sorts of stupid questions like :
What gun I shooting ? - on the form
What calibre is it ? - on the form
Where do I have permission ? - on the form
Is the deer managment group I belong to a club or syndicate or GROUP !! ?

Said he'd rang all our permissions and one didnt answer, would I have another no for him ? That's bout 22 different landowners covering over 4,500 acres and he was worried bout one landowner not confirming permission ? Never mind the fact that most of them have been listed on my licence for last 8 yrs

This is the first time I've ever had a phone call or query regarding my licence !!

That explains it all so, holidays are only 2 weeks, you will have it in time.

I'd pump her for info while ya have her on the blower. you'd be surprised what info you might get out of them. Areas near you with deer problems etc and no registered deer stalkers

    Every cloud ;)

Some people just dont understand !! Cousin of mine is a sales rep for a agri and steel fab company, his customers are well used to either hearing shots or hounds in the background when they ring in an order :D

Stop being so Miserable :( cheer up :), also IMO, I would like to think that most if not all stalkers here were just happy that the season is about to start and there were in most cases no problems with the licence arriving.

the only thing that pisses me off is that we have had no summer to date and sept is summer well & truly over:(

No fun dragging a stag in a sept heat wave.

Last 2 years we had serious heat 1st few weeks of sept.

    hay was even made!

FACT,but we did get an indian Summer, more or less for the last three years so it compensates somwhat.Just a PITA ,as I have a load of timber to haul in for the Winter, but the ground is too wet,and that Indian summer gives me a window usually to do it.Smack bang in the start of deer and duck season:mad:

Damn beat me to it.;).However thats what I always associate stalking with growing up,Summer, hunting roe deer[ok not reds in weight etc,],but dragging pulling and being eaten by mossies.

where can ya shoot deer in ireland and do ya need permission where ever you go or is there designated spots?

As per the licence there is only a difference in what can be shot in Kerry "ie Reds can't in kerry under normal conditions"

You can only shoot on land where you have permission, and has been approved by NPWS Ranger.

Guy I know was told not to shoot deer in a certain area, but could shoot a few miles down the road as numbers could support it.

Hmmm, got mine the 12th,and then a replacement yesterday with a covering note stating the original one is incorrect, sorry for the inconvience. It is just another sentence added to the validity stating that hunting deer with a pack of dogs for tracking and carcass recovery is legal.Anyone else get this one?
