    Hi all

New to the whole fitness buzz and thinking of getting a bike for the house. Any recommendations for links I can check out? Would be willing to pay around the 120 -160 mark

    thanks

Trilla, I'm not here to recommend a Fitness Cycle per say but rather that if you already have a spare normal bicycle that you might like to consider a cycle trainer which you attach your normal bicycle to.

It has a frame and a turbine unit on it (some turbines work by air or magnetic or fluid resistance etc.) and then you can use the gears and/or a turbine adjuster to set the strain that you need to maintain pace and effort while doing the training (I recommend intervals for best effect).

Various companies make these things. I'd recommend TACX based on what I've heard about them but I use an Italian made job that I bought in the US about 8 years ago. It's done hundreds of hours and still works well, no leaks or trouble.

Just my two cents. You might be able to buy a decent second hand bike to suit your size and then just couple it up on the cycle machine. If ever you need a bike then it's just a few minutes to detach and you're on the road!

I second the cycle trainer idea. The thing itself is small anyway, and if you already have a bike, youre already keeping it somewhere! I got an exercise bike and its a complete waste of time, is too heavy to move easily, and takes up a tonne of room. Since I got a 'real' bike and cycle trainer, thats what I use all the time.

Indoor bikes are deathly boring, btw, which is why most of them become clothes hangers. I dont think its the best piece of kit to invest in, if its going to be your only piece of kit.
