Value for Money Gymn Equipment Advice

Appreciate help people may be able to offer me here.

Essentially I'm looking to kit out a small basic home gym to be able to work on the Stronglifts programme and then just to have someplace to relax and chill while I do the exercises.

I'm thinking that for my personal safety and the ability to do chins and pull ups that I want to get me a Power Rack, then also to get a set of Olympic Weights and a Bench to actually do the exercises. Please correct me if I'm wrong with any of this.

Can anyone give advice on where to purchase the necessary equipment or additional stuff if I've left any of the essentials out?
I want equipment that is good value for money and that will stand the test of time and last me over the coming years but isn't outrageously expensive and unnecessary. Thanks again for any help people can offer here. My budget is about the 700 Euros mark.

    Hi There

One of the best places to start IMHO would be http://www.irish-lifting.com/index.php

The guy who runs it posts on here from time to time, his Forum name is Mickk. You could drop him a PM or his contact details are on his site.

There are quite a few of the Forum members have purchased from him and all seem to be pleased both with the service and equipment provided.

    Best Regards,

    M

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll get on to Mick and see if he can do me a deal on the bits and pieces. Do I have the right idea in terms of basic equipment? i.e. 1. Olympic Barbell and Weights 2. Power Rack 3. Bench Also, what are peoples opinions on going for a barbell with Rubber (which seem to be considerably more expensive) or Cast Iron/Metal weights? I'm guessing that Rubber weights are more comfortable in terms of noise and handling and may protect against floor damage? Any other reasons why Rubber may be better (or worse perhaps) than Iron weights? Thanks, Tim.

I am assuming that you have tested that theory out with a suitably heavy Russian prior to making that claim :D:D:D

    Hi Timmyboy,

I own irish lifting (thanks to the people who recommended me btw, your free stuff is in the post ;)). It's a common misconception that rubber covered weights are easier on the floor, the coating of rubber is for aesthetic reasons only, the coating is only about 2mm thick so will do nothing for impact absorption. Big gyms like rubber coated plates because it stops lads slamming plated together and making loads of noise (with the plates atleast).

I do have rubber mats that are 2m by 1.17m by 20mm thick and are 60kg<mod snip> removed pricing information </mod snip>. I don't have them on the website because they are too heavy and awkward to send out with a courier (they already give out when I send out 2 20kg plates together...). <mod snip> Removed pricing details on equipment offer to OP and sent it on via PM </mod snip>.

    *** Mod Edit ***

Please PM Mickk for pricing details or check out the Irish Lifting web site.
