Now, that's a teaser! Automatically thought 'NO! NEED TO SEE MORE!'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

I dunno if the rest of you got this already but here's my guess to what the saucers in the posters are:
They're the strange circular explosions that we see in the two second teaser. So some form of weapons testing recon prior to an invasion. If you look closely the explosion produces a circular pattern of smoke and round fireballs. This could be construed as a circular saucer with lights in a black and white photo.

This is being sold as Black Hawk Down meets War of the Worlds. Have to admit that I am somewhat buying into the hype, especially with Aaron Eckhart involved.

is that the alien behind the soldier in the poster?

I like the basic premise, but why set it in Los Angeles?....wouldn't NY be better?, tall buildings etc?...or do they need more open space?

I'm a fan of blow 'em up sci-fi....so if it's eye candy and tense i'm in!

Or it could just be an exploding saucer, which produces the circular explosion.

It seems the makers are staying away from the Independence Day type stuff and going for a gritty Saving Private Ryan meets Black Hawk Down in your face type film with house to house fighting instead of the usual blow up the skyscrapers by the numbers action. It starts in 1942 when the West Coast of America came under attack that was repelled-turns out it wasn't Japanese but aliens, flashforward to 2011 and they're back.......

Because New York gets blown up enough in films :pac:

Also the mythology of the film dates back to the actual Battle of Los Angeles event during World War II.

Also yeah it could be a saucer blowing up, but it's invisible or something because I cant see any saucer before the explosion in that clip. Cant wait for a proper trailer for this!

Yeah was a bit too brief for my liking too. If it does transpire to be a big alien invasion film, colour me interested! Can't tell anything from that though, bar there's a few helicopters!

I wonder if it will be a bit like Resistance on the PS3?

Looks a bit like it. Good premise for a movie.

That looks to be a great invasion movie if the new trailer is anything to go by.I'm getting impatient now-hope it doesn't let me down when it's released.

I hope this lives up to the hype. I'm still waiting for an alien invasion movie that gives us a really epic us vs. them battle - IMO nothing has come close to George Pals War of the Worlds in 1953!

Spielberg squandered the potential with his forgettable remake (I could have forgiven the film if it gave us a decent battle scene) After this, Michael Bays alien invasion flick will be my last hope!

The music in that trailer is just epic!

Really looking forward to it after that trailer.

Looks good but then so did Skyline and by all reports that is leading the running for worst movie of 2010. The Brothers Strausse do it again. Muppets.

Hasn't been a good Alien Invasion Movie in years. The War of the Worlds remake was so disappointing. Agree with the other post that a really good battle scene would have saved it, yet when they had the scene when the tanks rolled over the hill to attack the Invaders, all you saw next was a burning humvee coming back. What happened, did they run out of money for sfx????

Independence Day was a good popcorn flick but imo, the last great Alien Invader movie was "The Thing" starring Kurt Russell. Brilliant suspense with you never knowing who was an Alien and who was still human.

Battle LA = Halo The Movie IMO.

    .

The film exclusively followed a family throughout the entire movie, through the various interactions they had with others and the aliens themselves, there was really no place in it for such a scene, nothing to do with budget considerations...what would you have had happen, Tom Cruise follow them up the hill on foot? It purposely wasn't that type of film.

^ no matter, it was still a load of shiite!!, Speilberg botched that movie...great tension and buildup, loved the machine coming out of the ground....then, nothing....worst alien invasion movie ever.

I agree about the WotW remake. started off well but then not a whole lot followed.

Second trailer for Battle: Los Angeles is great. Hints at big action without giving away the big set pieces. The song is also a great addition. I want more.Job well done.

What would you have prefered? Tom jumping into a fighter jet and taking down the aliens? WOTW is a great flick, overly sentimental ending aside, the setpieces are brilliant, the scene in the basement being a standout of how to do suspense.

Much as I love the Halo Reach trailer, I want Battle: Los Angeles to be nothing like it. No jetpack shenanigen please.

I just hope it doesn't have one of those ending where the humans blow up one ship and that is connected to every other ship, and so the day is saved.

    I want originality people.

    Wow. That looks sweet.

    @Richard - I'm guessing you mean District 9 and not District 13.

re: Skyline. I was listening to Mark Kermode's podcast yesterday and, while he was saying it is no masterpiece, it goes to show that you don't need to spend hundreds of millions to get amazing special effects. District 9 and the upcoming Monsters has proven this.

Yes you are right, that film was all about Cruise and his nuclear family but then again, the movie was called THE WAR OF THE WORLDS not "lets have a group therapy session and learn how to bond with each other".

The original WOTW, and the far superior film btw, was all about fighting the Alien Invaders from start to finish without the schmalzty goop that Spielberg laid on thick in his reincarnation. A big set piece battle was needed to save that movie and in that respect, he failed miserably.

Really looking forward to it after that trailer.

The title is The Sun’s Gone Dim and the Sky Turned Black and performed by Icelandic musician Johann Johannsson from the 2006 album 1401: A User’s Manual

Second trailer out on apple. Found it on youtube:

still looks good I think :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

I'm looking forward to this but the only thing that jars it for me is Michelle Rodriguez.......playing yet another hard-ass gun-girl.

I remember reading something from a very early screening to a test audience months ago and the writer commented on how everyone groaned when she came on-screen playing the exact same character she plays in every movie.

Really don't know how she keeps getting work. (Well, good looks anyways :pac:)

Still, I'm still going to check this movie out. Hope it delivers as I want a really death-and-destruction alien invasion on a big budget scale. Less of the "broken family" and crap dad and more army / aliens blowing the fùck outta each other!

I hate inaccuracies. In that clip the "US Military" are wearing German army helmets. Stupid. :pac:

That said, I'll be looking forward to this.

I recall very little differences bar the intro. May need another watch.

^ that second promo + the CGI remind me ALOT of that YT sensation Panic Attack, btw...what's happening with that movie?

The clip Richard was referring to.

The clip Richard was referring to.

Nice Bronenosets Potyomkin reference in there.
    Question:
If the robos could just blow up the city like that why did they go through the trouble of launching a militaristic assault?

I noticed how the second trailer very much states that the title is 'World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles'. I'm guessing taht means 'World Invasion' will be a franchise if teh film is a hit.

The dialogue in the trailer leads us to believe that L.A is a last stand scenario, but as you say if the movie pulls in the numbers then a sequel would be inevitable.

I think I read somewhere that its to do with marketing. In North America the title is Battle: Los Angeles and worldwide is World Invasion Battle LA. I stand open to correction to this. Can't wait for it either way!!
