I have started to see this more and more in donegal. Below is an example of it. They take the cars badge out of the front grill.

When i first seen it on a car it looked like the car had damage. I think it looks terrible and hope is passes soon.

It's just a replacement Kamie grill, has been done for quite a while also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 827 ✭✭✭VinnyTGM

Its a badgeless grill, some people like the look, some don't.

bdages are mostly pointless anyway..who cares what engine or transmission or trim level someone else has!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭Vertakill

A lot of cars look a lot better without the badge I think.

The badges is just like an advertisement. Most people will know what the car is regardless, unless they've no idea about cars.

I had a 190 Celica with a TRD front with no badge and the grill looked 10x better.

    With badge:

looks terrible in most cases imo. If a car has no badge I wouldnt even bother viewing, let alone buying.

I saw an audi TT recently with no "4 rings" on the front. Ruined a good car imo.

I have one on my car. It smartens up the front of it imo, although it won't be to everyones taste. Thr grille on that a4 is too big to make it look good imo.

Yeah debadging is done a lot on euro cars.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 959 ✭✭✭changes

If people are goin to debadge can they not come up with something nicer than a plane black grill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 889 ✭✭✭hi_im_fil

What would you put there instead? The whole idea of debagding is to give a cleaner less fussy look to the car.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 959 ✭✭✭changes

An interesting chrome design against the black grill backround, now its become a trend i'm sure there are some artistic minds out there that could come up with some nice ones that would suit particular cars.

I spent days dechroming my MINI. Chrome only works on one colour - silver, they kinda blend together. I hate Chrome with a passion I'd normally reserve for Trad music.

Looks more like an 11 year old Opel to me that's been souped up and handbrake-turned on every Dunnes Store car park in Ireland and the only thing it says to potential buyers is

You think a car has been "souped up" and rallied around because a car has a set of aftermarket wheels and a different grille?:rolleyes:

Jesus christ is there any need to use that sized font? I wouldn't mind if it was a worthy post but your post was complete crap.

Now we have 3 more posts in quick succession quoting it!

Anyways, on some cars it looks god awful and it's probably a requirement for 'flet spec' cars like Audi's.

I think both Astras, new and old, in that previous picture looked good.

If you were to look at that Astra in your rear view mirror, it wouldn't be too easy to identify it quickly which adds a little mystery.

Most BMW's that are debadged indicate either that it's one of the lower specs (which are fairly easily spotted) and the owner is hiding that fact, or it's one of the better specs and the owner doesn't feel the need to willy-wag what they own (that or they don't want it stolen).

Either way, adds to the mystery! Would be boring if all of us had the same looking cars and I like people being a bit innovative.

you do know bmw add those msport badges on msport trim level bmw's from the factory(dealer) and you have to ask when buying the car to debadge it which most people do.

the real spanners are the people that have se class beamers change the wheels and msport badges(usually on the wrong side)

and then you have the 320d(m3) brigade. ill not even comment.

    Agreed.
My mams got a 535D with an M on it but that's the way it comes as it has the M Sport package on it.

Well, it's an Astra, anything that draws attention away from that fact can only be a good thing.
Debadging a car makes sense if it's the super sport V8 turbo version and you don't want to draw attention to that fact, but in Ireland it's more likely to disguise the fact that it's the 1.4l poverty spec version.
May actually be improved lookswise, but when it comes to reselling the potential buyer will think "modified bodywork, funky aftermarket wheels, wonder what kind of a life this car has lead".
So, the car may look better, it will reflect the owners individual taste and as long as he plans to never sell it on again, or for a price quite a lot below guide price, that should not be a problem.;)
If I took all the badges of my Focus, fitted a different grill, headlights, rear lights and wheels (to go for the complete look) it might actually look marginally better but I'd never find a buyer for it again.
Sadly those are the pitfalls of any modding.

I remove model badges from all my cars, however I leave the manufacturer one on. Prefer it that way.

seriously do you not have the slightest clue? are you trying to say that if you modify your car it wont help you when your selling it. probably if you have a field day at halfords as most focus owners do. however some car owners know what they are at and modify tastefully which not only adds value to the car but makes it easier to sell. few and far between though. you seem to be suggestion modified cars are abused and live a tough life. however if you were looking to avoid abused cars the last thing to be looking out for is if its modified much. id stay clear of a bog standard astra/focus with missing hubcaps etc because i know the owner of that car sees it as an object to get from a to b. which is not a good thing

and dont comment on an astra when you drive a focus.

    sigh

It's well known that modifying a car devalues it in the vast majority of cases.

    No matter how tasteful/attractive.

There's a golf like that on my road, and every time I see it I think it looks like either the badge has faded, or some knick knack has pulled the front of the badge off.

@Vertakill - that's a good example (stick on body parts aside).

I could live with a few tasteful modifications but this really bugs the life outta me !! When you see a car with Blitz, Mugen, Vtec, Veilside stickers plastered down the wings of a Nissan Micra/Toyota corolla 1.3xli etc etc

Yep, all down to personal taste. I'm not mad on that look, but it's pretty subtle - I went for monochrome badges on my yoke too.

imho de-badged cars look good except for the small few, i HATE vw cars with a black badge or whatever thay done to it, looks horrible! a lot of people are doing the back of the car too! also looks good imo.

    ROFL

man you make me laugh!! cheers tho coz you entertain me, you like a 40-45 year old that wishes he knew about cars and the different catagories, also thinks that the more executive the car looks the more its worth, but deep down knows nothing about cars. oh well, please entertain me more with the "super sport V8 turbo version" lol

As far as i'm aware, you still have to ask for the M-sport badge on the rear of the car, regardless of whether its an M-sport or not. I was under the impression they are not standard M-sport kit, just a silly option.

Have to agree with that. Looks bloody awful and tasteless on all cars really but looks escpecially awful on the 1.3 corollas/ Micras/ Puntos etc.

Think the debadged grill looks good on certain cars such as 97-01 model passat, Vectra 2, Mk1 to Mk3 Golf. I think it doesn't generally work well on cars such as corolla, civics, accords to name a few. Its a matter of personal taste and opinion too though I suppose. For some reason I'm not a fan of make/ model badges removed on tailgate or boot lid regadless of make or model.

The asking price on the white Audi seems a bit steep to me. Guessing the mileage is something severe on it too seen as he doesn't mention what the mileage is.

The M badge on the back of a car is chavtastic. M Sport models don't come with it, there's enough subtle M badges on the kit without a big shouty loud badge on the back. Even the full M cars only get a small-ish M badge as part of the name.

Theres a Golf parked beside me that I see a lot, newish model (mid 00s I think) that has the badge removed, but the bonnet and bumper still have the semi circular mould to allow for the badge so it really looks like something is missing. I have never understood this. Whatever about people who completely modify the front of their car and dont stick the badge back on, on a standard car I think it looks very out of place not to have the badge if its obvious there should be one.
