    Kilkenny_crest.jpg vs. Corkcrest.gif

    Date 08.08.10

    Time 15.30

    Venue Croke Park, Dublin

    KILKENNY (team that played Galway)
    1. P.J.Ryan
    2. John Dalton
    3. Noel Hickey
    4. Jackie Tyrrell
    5. Tommy Walsh
    6. Brian Hogan
    7. J.J.Delaney
    8. Michael Rice
    9. Michael Fennelly
    10. T.J. Reid
    11. Eddie Brennan
    12. Eoin Larkin
    13. Martin Comerford
    14. Richie Power
    15. Henry Shefflin

    CORK (team that played Waterford)
    1. Donal Og Cusack
    2. Shane O'Neill
    3. Eoin Cadogan
    4. Brian Murphy
    5. John Gardiner
    6. Ronan Curran
    7. Sean Og Ó hAilpín
    8. Tom Kenny
    9. Cathal Naughton
    10. Ben O'Connor
    11. Michael Cussen
    12. Niall McCarthy
    13. Kieran 'Fraggie' Murphy
    14. Aisake Ó hAilpín
    15. Patrick Horgan

    Last 5 Championship meetings
    2008 Kilkenny 1-23 Cork 0-17
    2006 Kilkenny 1-16 Cork 1-13
    2004 Cork 0-17 Kilkenny 0-09
    2003 Kilkenny 1-14 Cork 1-11
    1999 Cork 0-13 Kilkenny 0-12

    Betting
    Kilkenny 1/7
    Cork 5/1
    Draw 14/1

Will it be as one-sided as the bookies suggests? Cork as 5/1 underdogs in an All-Ireland semi-final is pretty remarkable, but I can't see anything other than a fairly comfortable win for the Cats. They should win by about 6.

Aye sadly im in the same boat here.

Cant see us pulling this off but 5/1 I think we might well be worth the handicap

Cork beeing in the semi's for both the hurling and football should give them a little extra boost. But still, can't see beyond the cats.

Really looking forward to this match actually. I'd say it'll be a very physical encounter as usual, with Cork trying to rattle Kilkenny with some cute slaps and Kilkenny giving as good as they get.

Looking to get a hold of 2 tickets for this, if anyone has any info pop me a pm plz,

Kilkenny are clear favourites alright, but then again so were Kerry and Tyrone at the weekend. Anything can happen, If Cork hit the same form they did in the Tipp game the cats will have a battle on their hands. 5/1 is massively generous.

Difficult to see Kilkenny getting beaten but it's gonna happen some day :)

Ticketmaster, it won't be close to selling out.

Anybody know how much student tickets are? Probably €30 I take it!

the usual slaps to Tommy at the start, trying to fire him up towards a card or two but Tommy replies with a sterling performance and perhaps another MOTM performance:D
The Cats should put Cork away easily but on any given day funny things can happen and it may be closer than we expect.

To be honest I will just be happy to keep the score down in this one. I just hope it doesn't turn into a complete humiliation like the Nowlan Park hammering in the league when Shefflin took the p*** out of us flicking the ball over the Cork backs heads before casually stroking it over the bar.

I just hope they keep battling to the final whistle. Thats all we can ask of them.

The Club Pass ticket offer applies to this semi-final: 10€ each. Nice one.

Kilkenny to win this by 10+ points and easing up at that with 20 mins to go.

Just can't see us winning this one tbh, a good hard battling performace would be enough for me

This will be much closer than anyone expects. No more than about 3-4 points in it at the end.

Hopefully Kilkenny on the right side of it...

    R. Hogan, M. Rice and J. Tennysson are all injured as far as I know.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

Can only see 1 outcome here and that's a handy win for the cats with 8 or 9 points to spare in the end.

Hogans injury isn't as bad as first thought. At first they thought it might've been an ankle break, but turned out to be only a heavy twist with bruising. Rice, even though he's back doing some hard running, definitely won't be back as hand is still in cast.

Unfortunately it seems Tennyson's cruciate has gone again and won't be back this year anyway. Big loss to Kilkenny as it looked as if he would've been starting, going on training.

If kilkenny can't beat this avrage cork team well, they don't deserve 5 in a row and are only cashing in on hurling being VERY weak at the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 377 ✭✭djScarey

Absolutely agree, liammur. If Kilkenny do it, they'll be one of the flukiest teams ever to win five-in-a-row.

So game over by half time then ? I was thinking of going along but thanks for the heads up - I'll wait for another year when its closer ....

Something tell me this will be alot closer than people think. I certainly dont think it will be over at half time! Surprised at the lack of interest on boards, if this was cork vs tipp there would be alot more hype!

If cork can get a foothold in midfield they will have a good chance.
The weakness is noel hickey. If cork can expose his lack of height and pace they might be on to a winner!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,971 ✭✭✭teednab-el

you can be sure of one thing. Cork will give it everything against KK. They wont die without a fight.

I cant see cork winning...it pains me to say but I reckon kk will do it, 10 ponts in the difference.

Cannot see it happening. Obviously I'll go along with hope that something special might happen, but thats for Sunday morning. Right now, 2 days out, Kilkenny to win by 5 or 6 points.

Are you for real? Are you expecting Aiske to get the better of Hickey?

While there may be weaknesses in the KK defence I don't expect Aiske to have a field day tomorrow.

If Corcoran couldn't get the better of him in 2006 I doubt Aiske will in 2010 given that Corcoran is 10 times the hurler Aiske is.

Asaike is faster and taller than hickey. Therefore if the use those strenghts they could make inroads. He destroyed padraic maher and maher is a better full back than hickey IMO

Padraic Maher seems to have nightmares when he plays against Asaike. As you said, he destroyed Maher in this year's championship, as well as in their NHL match.
However I think Hickey will stop Aisake from doing any damage. Rather than trying to win the ball when it comes in, he'll just stop Aisake from winning it, and let Dalton/Tyrell/PJ Ryan gather and clear it. Kinda like what happens in the half back line when you see Delaney/Walsh sweeping up the breaking ball.

Aisake doesnt have any strength and cant take being bullied.Hickey will take his hand/head off the 1st high ball that comes in!

Could be as simple as Aisake being the type of player Maher has difficulty with but doesn't mean Hickey will have the same problems. If Liam Lawlor could do such a good job on Aisake then Hickey certainly could be capable.

13 more injuries and we might have a game on our hands.....

If Aisake can manage to keept his mouth shut unlike the waterford matches he just might get a look in !! I don't think he is anything spectacular tbh, people here saying he is strong and fast ?? he can be quite clumsy and slow too imo

I agree, Aisake is over rated. Whenever he gets the ball he falls over. Very clumsy. Cork keeping playing hte ball into him and he converts so little, would wonder would they be better off playing for points instead of goals. In the Munster final replay, Cork played for a goal in the first 30 minutes and got nothing. Would they have won if they just took the points?

    Up the rebels boy!!

If we don't play into their hands and drop ball on top of Walsh and Delaney's heads all day you never know what might happen. Big worry is the half-backs in my opinion. Serious miles on the clock and if we get badly beaten there we'll be destroyed.

Hopefully the ref will keep tabs on Kilkenny as well for a change. It'll be their last chance to settle a score with a lot of this Cork team. Will Tommy Walsh add another one to the collection?

    Up the cats!

I don't think there is any more fouled and harassed player in the championship than Tommy Walsh. He is obviously targeted by teams after all he is a 7 time all star in 5 different positions! One of, if not the greatest player ever to play the game. Perhaps his only fault is to react to the provocation of his opponents. I guarantee you in the first five minutes Tommy will have been fouled off the ball more times than any other player on the pitch.

And Kilkenny have no score to settle with Cork, don't think too much of yourselves ;)

Let's not have the same Tommy Walsh argument can please.

I could dig out videos of several dirty strokes by Cork players but what purpose would it serve?

Does anyone have any reliable information or source on injuries to Brian Hogan or Mick Kavanagh?

My Dad was at training on Wednesday and says both were fine then.

I've heard Kav's injury is not as sersious as it is to his non catching hand and will play if needed.

Richie Hogan and Rice both back training but not expected to be risked.

If Brian Hogan is injured back 6 may be like this:

    Kav Hickey Dalton
    Walsh Tyrell Delaney

Kilkenny would need to lose a good ten players to have an injury crisis. Jackie Tyrell, JJ Delaney, Paddy Hogan could all play centre-back and excel, and that's without hving to play anyone out of position.

You'd hope that Cork may rage against the dying of the light but I get the feeling they already did that in 2008. As a team they are well in the dark at this stage. A lot of them are in bonus territory career wise and as much as they'll want it it's hard to see them having anywhere near enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭peabutler

Jackie is an animal CB for the club but im almost sure Kavanagh and Hogan are fighting fit and Hogan is still in contention. I wouldn't have fancied Kav or Hogan to start before injury but you never know how they are/were hurling in training.

I would not be so sure about writing cork off I remember 1999 and 2004 we thought that we just had to turn up to win but it was cork that thought us the hard lessons lets hope history does not repeat these 2 meetings

Its gonna be no walk away for KK. Anytime these two great sides meet there is hardly ever a puck of a ball between them. I expect Cork to be on fire sunday and possibly ending KK's 5 in a row. History is sometimes impossible to create and KK havent won the 5 in a row yet.

Hickey will take his hand/head off the 1st high ball that comes in!

Yeah, sounds like typical Kilkenny 'tactics'.

The KILKENNY side to play CORK in the All Ireland Senior Hurling semi-final in Croke park at 3.30pm is

    Looks weak

Team looks good. Hopefully the forwards will have their shooting boots on on Sunday and it's not a repeat performance of the Galway game! Purchased two tickets off ticketmaster earlier (hogan lower) Makes it all worthwhile working hard and not spending my money on nightclubs for days out like these. Kilkenny are the better hurling side but not by much and hunger and desire have swayed games where there has been bigger gaps in terms of skill and quality between teams so you never know. I hope it's tight anyway and I don't think this KK team are ready to relinquish their stranglehold on hurling just yet.
