The adivse I would give is to read the back of the product and compare the contents to each other. Especially if you want the best bang for your money.

You'd be best off getting your diet as good as possible and then using supplements to make up any shortcomings. Eg. I take whey-protein and glucose after a training session, because I won't get a chance to eat a proper meal until quite a while later.

Protein is protein, your body uses it to build up muscles. Creatine basically puts more short term energy in your muscles, allowing you to train harder.

As to which product to go for, straight whey is usually best, you can add your own carbs and creatine if you want, and if you buy from the right places it works out cheaper than getting something that's been mixed with 101 extra, super-high-tech ingredients that have questionable value and that you can't even pronounce.
