True, which do you reckon is the best bet? Wilton or Douglas? (Douglas is a smaller store, perhaps Wilton will get more?) Im not even thinking about town seeing as that's probably where the biggest crowd will be...

Anyone check if the iPhone is locked or not locked to the network. I'm sure getting them rushed out to providers in short time frame might have meant direct from apple store. Could possibily be sim free?

anyone know if you've to do anything special to enable 3g on the iphone?
Notice in my carriers it was set by default to 3 with a further option of 3 (3g) not selected.
Tried both but cannot get online :(
Anyway I've to go back into the 3 store today to get my old number transferred over and sort out the insurance.

I have the only one from o2 Henry street the o2 servers have crashed mine is the only one that went through ( he says a tiny bit smugly).

Grip of death is a non issue, phone feels great really nice piece of engineering.'makes the 3GS feel a bit plastic.

Only 15 in the Henry street store I got here a 7 am. Delighted with myself:)

I'm traveling from cork to Waterford and have had nothing but full bars all the way so far.

    What antenna issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭psycho93

Got my 32G in o2 Patrick St Cork, went in at 5:15 and there were 4 ahead of me. o2 staff arrived at about 6:30-45 and gave out smoothies & muffins! Manager arrived at about 7:00 and told staff that they had 24 iPhones! 6-32G & 14-16G. They then went along queue and took names, phone numbers & DOB of first 24. Doors opened at 08:00 and people were called to the tills acc to that list! Very well organised!!!!! Took about 10mins to get sorted.

On mine, it does display the grip of death issue. But the only way I can get it to happen is by deliberately cupping the bottom corner with my hand. It does not happen in normal use so in my mind it's not a problem.

Is the bumper app not available in the irish store to claim your free bumper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,034 ✭✭✭mad muffin

To all new and prospective iPhone 4 users.

There is only one rule of thumb (or should I say pinky?:D)

If you are in a weak signal area (1 bar) just make sure you don't cover the seam and you should be OK.:)

Got a 16gb at 8am in Vodafone on Henry Street, Dublin. There was no queue(except for those at the adjoining o2 store). I just walked straight in an purchased and was the first person in the shop.

That store only got 24 iphones today and the lady working the counter said that's all that every VF store got.

The 4th person in the store wanted to buy 2 16gb phones but was told that the the remaining phones were pre-ordered up to lunch time and she took the persons name and number and will ring her if people don't turn up to collect their pre-orders.

Yeah tried it last night and got it from 4 bars down to one - so it does exist. Im a complete iphone noob so still trying to figure out my way around the phone, how does one connect to the 3g for example? I'm with three and when i go to a page on safari it says its not connected to network. Do I need to input settings?

Just after picking up a shiny 32gb from CPW on Shop St in Galway.

Went into the O2 store before work at about 9am. They told me that there were people queueing from 5am and they sold out at 8.

Walked across the road to CPW, no queue, no hassle, had my new contract signed within ten minutes.

    Goodbye iPhone 3G slowness!!!

Picked mine up in Galway last night at the 3 store.

There were about 15 in the queue, 10 pre-booked.

Main issue was the credit card machines falling over because of the Galway Races. Shop Street was crazy last night! pic

So far, so good - just transferring applications from old iPhone to new one via iTunes.

Yeah, I can't afford one yet but I had a go of one this morning and the screen quality is definitely as good as they say. I've never seen such clarity in my life (except with actual real objects). The smoothness of the fonts is ridiculous.

Went to the NY Times site and the fonts were so fine and looked a little like clockwork craftsmanship - they looked like they were size 1 or something but were actually legible.

Got my 32 gig in the Daunt Square store in Cork. Made it in at 7, I was hoping to be in at 6 but I only got back from the UK driving back from the Ferry in Dublin at 5, and fell asleep on the couch. Thankfully the dog woke me up licking my hand!

There were about 9 people in front of me, and everyone seemed to want a 32 gig, the store only had 5. For some reason, some people went for a 16 gig in the end, and even though 5 phones had been sold, one guy wasn't eligible for an upgrade and the handset passed to me. Felt sorry for him, he was first in the queue - apparently had been there since 3am. O2 had told him he could buy out of the contract to upgrade a few days previously, and then changed their minds.

Anyone, doing a restore on the phone now. Looking forward to playing with it!

No. You need to apply for a case/bumper through Apple directly. There's more info here :

I was tenth in line at o2 baggot st at 7 this morning. at half 7 manager comes out and says they only have 8 units. I was temped to stay and hope two people flaked out and then tempted to go back to my warm warm bed but decided what the hell I'll give grafton st a shot. went to grafton st and was 25th in queue. thought that I would not have a hope. The manager gave a shout out to say that there were only 6 left when I was being handed my shiny 3G model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭Keano!

Incredible to think that this used to be the height of technology!

Mate at work here got one and he's been fingering it all morning, ha! Had a few minutes myself with it and it is a fine piece of engineering. Although it felt really nice, I can't imagine the glass front and back taking too much rough-housing! Word of advice from someone without an iPhone 4 (Have, and happy with 3GS), buy a decent case to protect it. You WILL drop it at least once and that once could be the end of the sexy screen.

    Happy usage everyone...

Look again, As soon as you update the carrier settings its gone.

Three don't have 2g networks and use vodafone's, so they don't want people turning 3g off when they could be using it.

Read on Twitter that my mate was in the que on henry st from 6 o clock.
But I walked into an 02 store in Nenagh Co. Tipp just after 12 and picked up a 32GB model. Happy days :)

I was 13th. Got there at 7.30, left two hours later. Girl I bought mine off wasn't the brightest. Asked what was the difference between 12 and 18 month contracts and she said none, one was just shorter. Lucky I double checked with the manager.
