    Indeed.

Not forgetting that Derek Burnett, Philip Murphy, Jonathan McCarthy, Thomas O'Grady and Phillippa Jane Watson are also representing Ireland in the shotgun disciplines.

Good luck to them all. :)

Should be a good trip, heading out in the morning, should be in the range by the afternoon. Once that FLOYDSTER fella's done shooting, going to drag him to a decent bar and spend the trip convincing him it's his round.

    Good luck with that :D

Its great to see so many Irish competitors in so many disciplines competing in Munich. Don't forget there are quota places for London 2012 up for grabs. It would be wonderful to see some Irish shooters qualify for the Olympics at this early stage.

In the rifle and pistol disciplines:

Ray Kane (comp. number 2269) shoots in the 10m Air Rifle qualifier detail at 08.00 CET (07.00 Irish time) on Saturday 31st. He is on firing point 82.

Peter Friend (comp. number 2268) shoots in the first 50m Pistol elimination detail at 08.00 CET (07.00 Irish time) on Saturday 31st. He is on firing point 89.

Gary (2267) shoots in the 2nd elimination detail for 50m Rifle on Sunday 1st at 15.15 CET (14.15 Irish). He is on firing point 65.

Live scoring will be available on this link

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Some really good scores in the first elimination so far. Neil Stirton (GBR) and four others are tied on 299/300. Highest finisher so far is Gang Liu of China with 597. Gary is on the next relay at 14:15.

Neil just put in another ton and is now on 399/400 (99, 100, 100, 100). Artem Khadjibekov is the only one with a perfect score so far: 100/100. Scratch that, he got a 99 on his second string :)

Highest finish now is a 598 from Valerian Sauveplane (FRA), nobody on a perfect score on this relay...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

First relay finished now with four on 598. This is just the elimination round with the top 70 or 75 going through to the qualification round. My initial assessment of a 590 being needed to make the qualification round still looks reasonably accurate depending on how the second elimination round goes.

Neil Stirton finished with a 594. Having only dropped one shot in his first 40, he then dropped 5 on his last 20. Still should be easily enough to get him into the qualification round tomorrow morning.

Gary has started with two 99s. Make that three :). He's running in 12th place in this relay, fingers crossed!

Another 99, he must be getting tired of them at this stage ;). Now in 13th place ahead of the great Rajmond Debevec!

Oops, wrong direction. 97 this time. 22nd place now but still ahead of Debevec who's finished with a 590. The point here is just to qualify, it's a clean slate when you start the qualification round.

Finshed with a 98 and 591. Should be good enough to get through to the qualification round. Well done Gary!

Just to confirm that Gary has qualified and is on firing point 14 starting at 07:00 in the morning.

I know this may be lost on a lot of you but it's a fantastic acheivement and much harder than an Olympic Games. To qualify he had to have 50 tens or better from 60 shots.

This is in spite of all the problems and hassle put in the way of Irish shooters and their sport by people who would either want to stop all shooting sports, or ignore shooting sports into oblivion.

More power to Irish shooters, whatever their shooting sport may be!

Gary had a good shoot. There was a shift in predominant wind conditions about 35 shots into his detail. Since he had already given up on shading, having undercooked one shot (9.8 at 4 o'clock) and nearly overcooked another (10.1 at 10 o'clock) he was obliged to wait out for changes to his sighted condition, which became infrequent after his 35th shot. He was happy enough with his performance, so hopefully he'll be feeling strong and confident heading into the qualification tomorrow. He finished in 22nd place, ahead of Rajmond Debevec, who's been the world record holder in three-positions since 1992. Any day you beat Debevec is a solid day at the office!

maybe it's not all luck then!!!

    ;)

Gary has had a good start: 99, 100, 99, 99. Some really good scores up, Sergei Martynov is on 500/500

    2267_4.png?634163350648893750

Apologies, the Sius site was slow updating; no scores and then suddenly everyone's got at least one series shot :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

97 in his 5th string, wind seems to have got up and pushed five out to the right :(

    Go Gary !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

He pulled it back in for the last string (though the last shot came in too much :)) and finished with a 99 and 593

    2267_6.png?634163358064206250

Martynov finished with a 599, Sauveplane on 400/400 and there's five 598s and a 597 home and hosed, so 593 won't make the final. I reckoned it would take 597 to get there, but now it's looking like 598.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Sauveplane finished on a 599 and there's two others with a possible 598 on the cards (Matt Emmons is one of them); two 599s and five 598s so far in the club house ;)

Gary currently in 46th place. Top 100 World ranking a real possibility here :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Matt Emmons got his 598, so it's officially 598 for the final. Just a matter of seperating a couple on centre tens unless the last guy doesn't get it.

Neil Stirton finished with a 596 and Jonathan Hammond is on 397.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Jonghyun Kim of Korea finished with 597, so it's an easy task for the Jury to allocate places in the final :)

Gary now 48th. Jonathan Hammond finished with a 595.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

All finished now. Unofficially Gary was 48th overall which from a standing start with a new rifle this year is a tremendous achievement. There are literally millions of people worldwide shooting ISSF prone rifle, so to finish 48th in the World Championships is pretty special :)

    Well done Gary

Thanks, rrpc, for the "running commentary" - Much appreciated!
to finish 48th in the World Championships is pretty special

    Pretty special?
    That's an understatement!
    Well done, the Duffster!:D:D

    Done us proud, lad!;)

Good to see Irish shooters do us proud. Keep it up!

Peter is on the second Air Pistol qualification relay starting at 09:15 (GMT) tomorrow morning on firing point 69.

The same website for live results as linked above.

Gary is on his way to Lapua to see if they have any boxes of ammo that don't have 97s in them ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Just to keep people up to date with the shotgun results, Derek Burnett had a 73 (15th) and Philip Murphy (71st) and Thomas O'Grady (73rd) both had 69s in the first qualification heat. I'm not sure how it works from here on in, perhaps one of the shotgun lads would let us know?

Jonathan McCarthy and Philippa Watson both go in the Skeet later in the week.

Here's an interesting little factoid about this World Championships. The USA have sent a team of 84 athletes who are taking part in 111 events and have a budget for this trip alone, of:
    $400,000

Oh I forgot to add that some of them are self funded...

The first Air Pistol relay is finished with a top score of 590. Mick Gault (GBR) had an uncharacteristicly low score of 574, Robert Doak from NI had a 565. Peter's relay has just started, Peter is on sighters.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Peter has started his match. A couple of eights but a nice little group of tens at six o'clock on the ten ring. 90 scored on his first string, no graphic for you because bloody Sius are jumping shots: 7 to 11 with nothing in between. The eleventh was a 10 :)

Found it on the ISSF site:

    DynamicImage.aspx?cs=909&ecode=AP60&grst=SE&imgtype=small_6img_zoomed&srid=70103&year=2010

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

They really are making a mess of this :(, Only the eleventh shot showing on the graphic but he has a score of 48! OK now the graphic has caught up with the score:

    2268_4.png?634164293352487500

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

One eight in the second string, the rest nines and tens. Looks like a 94 (this time the score is behind the graphic). Nice 20th shot :)

    2268_4.png?634164298142018750

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Looks like a 93 on the third string:

    2268_5.png?634164304412800000

    So that's 90, 94, 93 for a halfway total of 277.

Sius screwed up again, so the fourth string from the ISSF website:

    DynamicImage.aspx?cs=909&ecode=AP60&grst=SE&imgtype=small_6img_zoomed&srid=70106&year=2010

    95 scored, nice and steady now: 90, 94, 93, 95

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

92 in the fifth string, the ten ring just eluded him.

    2268_7.png?634164319901550000

    90, 94, 93, 95, 92: 464

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

4 tens so far in the sixth string

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Seriously good finish from Peter, 98 on his last string

    2268_8.png?634164327931550000

    90, 94, 93, 95, 92, 98 for a total of 562. 107th place currently but that could change as others finish.

This was a very high scoring match, needing better than a 94 average just to get in the top 100

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭Kryten

Really good score from Peter. This stuff is seriously not easy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

OK, that looks like qualification finished. 582 to get in the final and with a 590 and a couple of 587s there, 582 won't be enough for a medal. Peter finished in 109th place, 5 eights in the first half cost him a top 100 finish, but he really came back in the second half scoring 285/300.

Excellent result and I'm sure he'll be very happy with that score in his first Category A competition.

Plenty to build on undoubtedly, but he showed serious composure to finish on a 98.

    Well done Peter.

Final is at 12:30 GMT, links for ISSF TV and scores are as above for the Mens Prone Rifle.

Cheers for the live commentary rrpc, it must be catching :D
And it shows very clearly just how high the standard is on the international ISSF circuit, especially when you spot that all of the high level people have been training since they were far younger than we can start training over here; not to mention that they've had air pistols for far longer, so they have far more built up in terms of expertise and coaching and so forth.

Well one would suspect that you've other things on your mind ;)

Japan's Tomoyuki Matsuda won with a 586+103.4, second was Serbia's Andrija Zlatic with 590+99.2 (there's a 4 point deficit overturned ) and third was Jong Oh Jin from Korea with 587+102.1 (only .1 behind second).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Just had a call from Munich; apparently Peter was shooting beside Sergey Chervyakovskiy who finished with a 587 and 4th in the final and who had a sea of supporters standing behind him which was always in Peter's peripheral view. That's serious pressure

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Just catching up with the shotgun results. On day 2 of the Men's Trap qualification Derek Burnett had a 119 for 19th place. Philip Murphy had 118 for 24th and Thomas O'Grady had a 93 for 120th. Top score was 123.

The final is today at 16:45 (GMT).
