There was always going to be a sequal to the comic afaik. Not heard much about plans for the movie though, although it probably will happen.

The more this project progresses the less im liking it.

    1. Matthew Vaughn isnt on board as director.
    2. Jane Goldman not as a writer (according to imdb) i know its just making a screenplay from exisitng material but that can be tough to do.

    3. Jeff Wadlow as director he hasnt impressed me thus far in his career.

On the positive side a new role for Jim Carey at last, i hope he fits in well to this movie.

To be fair every film I've seen for which Goldman has been the screenwriter has felt fairly bland, so it's not like she's got some sort of magic touch that won't be found elsewhere. On an adaptation process in particular her absence is less likely to be noticed.

I think Matthew Vaughn is better than this material - in fact, I think he's better than most of the projects he ends up with. Kick Ass showed moments of great visual style (the warehouse is one of the best Hollywood action scenes of recent years), but alas only counted for so much when straddled with Goldman's so-so adaptation of Millar's typically adolescent source material. Same with X-Men: First Class - a film that got the look and feel dead-on, but again let down by a lazy and regrettably formulaic script. Stardust is the one time when the content and direction seemed to come together smoothly (haven't seen Layer Cake).

Without Nicholas Cage's Big Daddy, what's the point?

I thought her and Vaughn worked well together,
You found X-men first class bland ?
I thought stardust also came together well, also enjoyed the woman in black.

I would still her as a loss on this project as i do believe she is generally a postive factor to have involved.

Im not familiar with the second book/comic/whatever it is, but is Big daddy in it as hes on the imdb list for this project at the moment

Well one positive aspect of no Vaughn, no jobs for his english mates :pac:

For clarification, in Kick Ass I found it hard to stay in the movie's world when I knew half the "american" gangsters were english and putting on terrible accents.

I found that X-Men: First Class had a script that wasn't as strong as the direction and visuals in the film, with some of the plotting/structure and character parts feeling fairly bland compared to the visual flair on display.

Similarly, I found The Woman In Black to be a by-the-numbers "startled jump" affair when the setting could have been used to create something much more atmospheric and unsettling.

All in all, I don't think she's terrible but I find her work sufficiently generic that her absence from a project is, to my mind, no great loss.

From what I recall, Millar has hinted that there might be flashback sequences in the KA2 film (possibly relating to the Hit Girl comic that's being published at the moment) that allow for Nic Cage to return.

Hit Girl the best thing about the first film, which is one of those films that is a bit crap the second time you watch it.

Yep. Doesn't hold up to repeat viewing at all.

Didn't think it held up to a first time viewing myself :pac:

That Hit Girl rescue scene almost seems like it belongs in a different, much better film.

The english/american accents didnt bother me cause the story was crazy up to that point anyway :D and turned even more mental afterwards with the jetpack etc .

Id much rather see a sequel to Super to be honest, it was like Kick Ass only better, and a little bit more disturbing.

The scene with Big Daddy in the warehouse saves it on rewatch

Layer Cake is Vaughn's best film imo. Every thing else he's done is half-baked. I'm surprised he passed up the Kick Ass sequel in favour of doing another X-Men movie.

Few pics of Jim Carrey on set have emerged:

I enjoyed the hell out of the first one, even if it doesn't stand up to re-watches particularly well.

Jim Carrey looks somewhat like Mickey Rourke as Marv from Sin City.

Wow, that's some ropey CGI in the trailer; the first films own effects weren't exactly cutting edge, so looks like that's being carried over!

Film itself looks ok; I only saw Kick Ass the once, and it was funny in parts, if a little obnoxious too; can't say though it was a movie that was particularly memorable either way. Is this sequel based on an equivalent comic?

I think Hit Girl is gonna steal this film

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Wasn't a big fan of the first film, it had some moments but I didn't really enjoy it as much as others did.

But bloody hell that's some shocking looking CGI in that trailer.

Have to say I like the looks of it, aside from the dodgy cgi. Enjoyed the first one but will admit I thought Super was a better film.

2 minds about this, that trailer is truly awful.

BUT Jim Carey's character intrigues me a lot... one for dvd perhaps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,564 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

One thing about the trailer I didn't like was the way Hit-Girl(Mindy) delivered that line before shooting through the roof of the truck. Sounded very forced or something.

Having read the comic, I think it compares pretty well

2 new character posters and two new international trailers.

I don't think she'll have to steal it, if the trailers are anything to go by she's the main character in the film!

That looks like something that is designed to make 14 years go "yeah!" and run about the house really annoying their parents.

Here are some proper balls to the wall, I bet this isn't even in the film.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

New 'red band' trailer out; it's 4 minutes long and is something of a general synopsis of the film by the looks of things so usual warnings about modern trailers apply! Certainly those who hated #1 won't find anything new here, I'm in two minds myself; first was ok if utterly disposable, but not sure if I want see the same thing again...

I'm still kind of weirded out by the guy who plays Kick-ass. 19 years old, marries a 42 year old director. But hey, who am I to judge.

    well just back from this.

    i had a fkn blast !

    :D

if your of a PC persuasion or easily offended you wont like this but i was in tears in places.

its even got some nice heartfelt stuff in it to draw back from the OTT brutality, but mostly its just damn fun as we see hit girl and kick ass try to deal with life after their actions cause a slew of copycats to come in their wake.

hit girl again steals the show and TBH i really wouldnt mind a spin off just focusing on her but all involved get decent screen time and it was fun to see her deal with teenage life.

    8/10

it wont be everyones cup of tea but IMO its one of the few films this year i'd be arsed seeing again no problem

    :D

    Balls to The Wall eh?

    Classic old school

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Saw it earlier, was good fun, silly in the extreme but in a good way. Hit Girl steals the show again, has all the best lines and action beats. Carrey is good in his role and some of the gags are excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

meant to say the soundtrack was as good as in the first one.

found myself tapping the foot alot.

    :D

Had a major chuckle at the
Tetris theme playing as Mother Russia is kicking the cops asses
, thought it was a great touch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭Psychedelic

Thought it was decent enough, not quite as good as the first film. Plenty of good laughs, although some of the jokes are a bit lame but the crowd in the cinema lapped them up anyway.

[Rant about cinemas: I didn't realise it was release day in Ireland (only decided to go to this on a whim after seeing this thread a few hours ago) so it was fairly packed, so lots of people laughing outrageously loud at only chuckle moments, head wrecking. Trailers for lowest common denominator crap such as 'We're the Millers' (Jennifer Aniston comedy) and 'Pain & Gain' (Michael Bay) had everyone in hysterics. And people leaving just before the end credits, WTF, could you not just wait a few more seconds till it ends and the lights come on? /rant]
Shame that Carrey's character was killed off so quickly, he hardly got any screen time.

Changed too much from the comics. Bah. Quite annoyed they shyed away from the impact scenes
