2.2 definitely isn't out for the Spica. If it does come out, it'll likely be a few months down the line. It's quite possible Samsung won't update it to 2.2, unfortunately. If that's the case, there are custom ROMs being worked on that may allow you to unofficially update, but none of these are usable yet

Ya it'll be a while before there is any 2.2 for the spica if at all.

Try turning on usb debugging for your connection problem.

Oh yeah, forgot to answer the other question. Basically, PC Suite and any of the Samsung software is a pile of ****e. The only reason I used it was to update from 1.5 to 2.1, then uninstalled it. If I need it to get to 2.2 I'll do the same. But you don't need it for anything else. If you want to transfer files, you can just connect it to your PC and drag and drop. For managing your phonebook, just sync with your Gmail account and edit them there (if you don't have one, it would be worth getting solely so you could do this)

http://www.samsung-firmware.webs.com/ (or follow in Twitter under http://twitter.com/SamsungFirmware) provides firmwares directly from Samsung (apparently).

I've used quite a few of the firmware images (flashed with Odin) and they work fine. From his Twitter feed, it looks as if Samsung has just started pushing 2.2 to e.g. Galaxy S (and phones that have come out since Spica).

In a previous tweet he said that Samsung had told him that there wouldn't be a 2.2. for Spica. Since then, leshok has published two alpha versions of 2.2 - so it may be possible that even if Samsung doesn't publish an official firmware for 2.2 that we'll have an unofficial version from the community.

can you upate a samsung galaxy spica from 1.5 to 2.1 without using their PC software, i.e. if you use Mac OS?

Definitely not offically. And AFAIK, Odin (the unofficial way to update) is windows only. Looks like you'll need a loan of a windows machine

Thanks for all your input on this, i have just found that Adobe Flash needs 2.2 to install :( so no flash games on this phone till an unofficial is finished.
