Great Deals on designer sunglasses

I spotted a new shop on Dawson street selling designer sunglasses. I've been looking for a while for a decent pair of glasses for the car without getting ripped off. Anyhow everywhere I've looked in Ireland and abroad has been insanely priced. So I didn't have high hopes walking into this shop.

But to my surprise they have some great deals. Lots of big brand names that I've normally seen priced 90EUR plus going for 50, 60 or 70 euro.

Anyhow picked up myself a pair of Gant polaroids for 60.

Shop is called Brand Central and its 23 Dawson Street

Hope that saves someone some cash :D

    Yup.

They had ladies and mens styles.

In terms of brands - I tried on Oakleys so they have them - the guys business card lists Ray-Ban, Gant, Guess, Dior, Calvin Klein, Prada, robert cavalli, Chloe, D&G on it.

I think they had more. They seemed to be low on Police thou I did try a pair on.

If someone is in there can they get a price on Ray Ban Aviators. it would be a good benchmark to see how great the deals are.

    Do they have a website??

    Was in there at lunch.

Didn't have the RayBans I was looking for and there were no prices on the rack I was looking at which is a big no-no for me. Also, and it could be just me, but they didn't seem quite right, in that I would not be 100% sure they are genuine.

Not to say they aren't cheap if you find what you want.

I don't understand how anyone can call €60 or more for a pair of sunglasses a bargain!!!!!
That's a days pay for some people.
All you are paying for is stupid brand name.

Was thinking the same but I suppose everything is relative. To some people even now €60-€110 is still a bargain for something which would normally cost more.

There's a difference between buying a pair of sunglasses because they have a big gold D&G on the side, and buying a pair with quality lenses.

Cheap sunglasses are awful to look through so if you get some quality glass for €60 then it's well worth it.
You should be able to tell immediately when you try them on.

Its a bargain relative to what it usually costs.
Now I have no interest in how it looks. i wouldn't spend that money on glasses for how they look. I want it for driving. I'm paying for the quality and clarity of lenses. I usually buy cheap 15€ glasses but find them always too blurry for driving. I've been looking to buy a pair of cheap good clarity designers for ages an they are always 100 +. So 60 seems cheap relatively.

Now I did try on an amazing pair of Oakleys that were so clear they the image was almost better than reality. I wanted them bad. But 110 was way too expensive!

+1, Oakley lenses are fantastic. They clean so easily compared to any other lense and i have never scratched a pair. despite dropping them so many times.

First Impressions! Call it a hunch or whatever but a shop full of cheap designer sunglasses with no prices displayed sounds kind of Costa del Fake to me.

I'll be in town tomorrow, will check it out myself and post a more informed opinion then. lol

Personally when I hear of cheap, designer gear being sold in Ireland by a new store we've never heard of, I would be skeptical.

Looking for a pair myself. Some barsteward on the Brittany Ferries has mine - lost 'em there coming back from France last year. Local pharmacy has them at €90 but that's too much - I'll wait till the closing down sale!

FYI - here's a guide from someone on eBay re fake RayBans:
There are lots of counterfeit Ray Ban Aviators on eBay.co.uk at the moment.
Here are 3 really obvious tell-tale signs [compared with an authentic pair].
You can check these out yourself, just go into any High Street opticians or do a Google search.

    No. 1
"B&L RAY-BAN ITALY "MARKED ON THE BRIDGE BAR"

This is definitely NOT marked on the bridge bar of authentic Ray Ban Aviators. B&L [Bausch and Lomb] are the American company who used to produce Ray Ban sunglasses. They sold the Ray Ban brand to the Italian Luxottica group in 1998.

The equivelent mark on current, authentic Ray Ban Aviators is on the UNDERSIDE of the bridge bar and only says 'Ray Ban' plus a numerical code.

[On vintage Ray Bans, manufactured by Bausch and Lomb, the inscription on the topside of the bridge bar is 'B&L RAY-BAN U.S.A.]. Bausch & Lomb also produced Ray Bans in India, but the fakes I'm describing today claim to be made in Italy.

    No. 2
As stated before, the company that currently produces Ray Ban sunglasses is Luxottica, who produce a lot of top-end designer sunglasses. If the sticker on your Ray Bans reads Luxomca, unfortunately you have some fakes. Please don't take my word for it. Do a google search for Luxomca and see what comes up. Then do a search for Luxottica.

    No. 3
As well as the obvious 'Ray Ban' logo on the right-hand lens, there should be an inscribed - ie scratched into the glass itself - 'RB' logo. Pre-Luxottica this was a 'BL' inscription.

There are a number of other differences, these are just some very obvious ones. As I've said, don't take my word for it, check these things out yourself.

I can't speak for other Ray Bans as I only own a pair of aviators [bought from my regular high street optician!].

Don't get caught out [like I did], take care of your eyes!

I got kicked out on the 25th for getting angry at the salesperson. I said they were all fake and the lady said they were real, but then I shouted they were FAKE! I threw one on the floor but thankfully it did not break.

The Gardaí were called but my girlfriend saw them coming and I walked away. Wouldn't want to be arrested for Public Disturbance. (or Disturbing The Peace, whatever it is called)

If you believed they were fake, why didn't you report them to the Gardaí instead of allegedly having the guards called for your "public disturbance".

I also highly doubt that, despite being completely over the top, shouting at a sales assistant and throwing a pair of sunglasses (which you didn't own) to the ground, would be an an arrestable offence.

Anyway, back on topic, might pop into here this evening - looking for a pair myself!

Not cool man, not cool at all.

What's going on here in this thread? Is this some sort of clever marketing campign?

I am not rich enough to afford real Oakleys, so I've ordered couple of these from DealExtreme, will report back on quality when they arrive.

    http://cheapoakleyssunglasses.com.
They are not the real thing but they look very good. I got tree pairs for 57 dollars from the US, works out about 40 euro for three pairs. Shipping is 20 dollars, so best if you buy as many pairs as possible to make it worth your while.
