The innocent citiziens of NI can sleep soundly now that the North has exported its most lethal weapon ;).

Thats what he thinks of BSL!

    39727_429073640888_169411475888_4814096_966822_n.jpg
    HINT of a smile!

No more a Pit Bull than I am Irish!

    37564_429073235888_169411475888_4814088_7834503_n.jpg
    Handsome!

Collecting him was surreal. SIX big strapping Enforcement Officers were milling about my van and no one was going to handle Bruce who was doped up on ACP :(. I opened their van door and said hello to the poor mite and attached the lead to his collar and he came out very unsteady. ALL six jumped back and one hid behind my van with a catchpole. I told him there was no need for this contraption and led Bruce across the yard to my van. He clambered into my van and collapsed in the crate. They took pics the whole time in case he attacks me...

I had to MUZZLE him, lock the crate and then lock the van! We even got an Enforcement escort out of Belfast and I had to sign that we wont stop on NI (amongst other things).

This is ludicrous. It felt like I was transporting Hanibal Lecter (sp?).

Jesus that's extreme. Ridiculous. Best of luck to Bruce.

My heart breaks for what this poor dog was put through, when are people gonna open their eyes and see how ridiculous they are being when it comes to these innocent dogs.
I applaud Bruces' fighting spirit and I applaud your dedication to these misunderstood, incredible dogs, well done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭DBCyc

He's a cracking looking dog alright EGAR. That is a feckin crazy story alright. What kind of an idiot do you have to be to think a dog like that could harm you?!

You must have been their hero! Those officers are going to tell stories to their grandchildren about the hardest person they have ever met who took a doped up "pit bull type" dog with their bare hands. They will be telling those jokes and replacing Chuck Norris with EGAR :D

I had to laugh though, here was I, middle aged frumpy :D woman two hands higher than a duck and all six guys were built like bouncers and over 6 foot. They were collectively holding their breath when I opened the van and the guy next to me nearly died when I stuck my hand into the van. My volunteer (he's a board member here but he can out himself :D) was the only one who didnt jump back when Bruce came out of the van.

Still doped to his eyeballs on arrival here, he was kind and seemed relieved to be out and on grass. He is very affectionate:

Never heard about bruce until this evening. Read the previous post and checked out the videos on youtube and i cried my eyes out. Poor bruce. But so glad he was saved. EGAR, you're a saint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,658 ✭✭✭✭The Sweeper

EGAR, he's a far cry from the pictures of the worst of his incarceration. He looks to be a good weight and his nose has healed (I had the horrors, thinking you'd end up collecting this horribly underweight dog with weeping ulcers). They must have picked their socks up somewhat in terms of his care - which begs the question of who was looking after him well enough to bring him back from that previous state if they're all so ridiculously terrified of him?

Am glad the whole thing is at an end for him and he's with you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭Eibhin

Well done EGAR. That's such a good outcome. Enjoy every second with him!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

Am in tears here... Cannot believe so many big men would be terrified of a dog... honestly what kind of lies are NI spreading about breeds like this? What terrible uneducation of dogs!

He looks a little dote. If I was in a position to I'd have a breed like that in a second but I don't have enough room :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 129 ✭✭Tootle

Well done. I've just caught up on the whole story now and I can't stop sobbing. What a beautiful dog. I'm delighted with the "Disney" ending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,874 ✭✭✭EGAR

Obviously he had been moved from the first place. Close up you can see the scar across the muzzle and of course the amputated tail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭GalwayKiefer

I was amazed to see how the Enforcement Officers reacted to him when he hopped out of one of their vans and into egar's van. The whole thing was ridiculous, I joked to Sarah when I saw all the vans and the heavies, as we drove into the compound, that I needed reminding were we picking up a dog or buying ex-Soviet rocket launchers from the Russian Mafia...
It is vitally important that people realise that regardless of what he looks like, he was identified as a pitbull in all the legal paperwork. In the eyes of the NI government he is a pitbull and his release into the Republic sets a legal presedent that will hopefully help the many other dogs suffering at the hands of man under the ridiculous Dangerous Dogs Act.

Fair enough. It's good to know the lobbying did something to improve the conditions he was kept in before he was released. I just say this because hopefully it means you can get on with nurturing his spirit and finding him a home, without a long haul of physical rehabilitation first.

If Bull Breeds weren't so people loving then Bruce would have come out of this experience deranged and aggressive. I don't know what more proof the powers that be need that BSL is absolute nonsense!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭LucyBliss

Beautiful, beautiful dog!! Look at that face. At risk of sounding like a crazy dog woman, if he were mine, he'd be in danger of being smothered with hugs and kisses.

    That is absolutely FARCICAL!!!!!
I mean my god...never mind the police stations being blown up and the hoardes of rioting gobsh1tes...no no it's the poor little abused and drugged up family dog that's the biggest threat to NI security it seems....I mean for God's sake have they completely lost the plot???

This entire story has absolutely sickened me since I first heard about it - and this just caps it. THANK GOD sanity prevailed in the end and shame shame shame on the perpetrators of this abuse. Well done EGAR I hope your actions can sow some seeds of doubt in the corrupted NI system...

Is Bruce's original family still in the picture or had they given up?

(and give Bruce a big cuddle from me! the poor dote)

I'm in tears at my desk, fantastic news. He has the good life ahead of him now

He is getting alot of positive press and I am pushing for the story to go national. This needs to be used to maximum effect to hammer home idiocy of Breed Specific Legislation. To condemn an animal to death solely because of the way it looks is ridiculous and based on an irrational fear and of course the media frenzy.

I've had calls from tabloids but refused to talk to them as they are the ones who labelled Bull Breeds *devil dogs* and attributed supernatural :D powers to them such as locking jaws and a will to kill anything moving.

I am dealing in facts and facts solely.

As to the ex-owner, suffice to say, she has not been in touch with me and was notoriously hard to deal with from day 1. The last appeal was not funded by her, nor were the breed ID's. She refused to pay although there were plenty of people who would have helped her out.

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear this. I would thought that she'd want her dog to be vindicated and end up in a good safe home if he couldn't be with her. But then I don't know her or her situation so I'll say no more.

Thats awful as it seemed she and her family where the ones who started the whole campaign and it was based on "get bruce back to his family they need him".Never mind it worked out much better for bruce in the end he couldn't have ended up in a better place than with you Egar, well done I have been following you on facebook and he looks soo happy, oh and bailey is a complete stunner!

I really like it, the reporter has taken great pains to look up all the links I gave him re Bruce and even got some humour in ;). It was too big to scan in one piece hence the two parts:

Great article EGAR, its brilliant to read a good story for a change. well done again. how's the little man getting on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭lrushe

Great article, probably the only positive I've read with a Bull Breed in it. :)
The only issue I would have with it was that it appears to ok the fact that some breeds have to be muzzle and leashed and while this is a step up from NI law which calls for Pit Bull lookie likies to be PTS its still BSL and still wrong.
Guess its baby steps and we shouldn't run before we can walk, its just a subject close to my heart.
Once again well done on the great job you've done with Bruce, lets hope his story will open some eyes.

Well done EGAR. Just came across this story and you must be congratulated on a good job. I recently visited your website which was shown to me on the galway city forum and I must say I was very pleased to see what you do... All the best with future work.

Oh this is wonderful news! I heard about Bruce several months ago and the story appalled and disgusted me, I am so happy to know that this story had a happy outcome. Egar, fair play to you for the work you've done and I hope this gets some changes made to that STUPID breed law. Three cheers for Bruce! :D

Bruce made it into the national press today with a feature in the Irish Examiner. I am so very pleased, it isn't often that positive stories about Bull Breeds make it into national newspapers!
