    Yes:D

Staying with o2 on 60 a month plan. My bill is never over 65 so happy with that compared to 80 to 100 on three/meteor

I'm currently on the 350 plan with O2 with 6 months left so gonna stick with this plan and take a 12 month contract so its essentially just a 6 month extension

Am on Meteor prepay.. with 80euro credit which i can use on data the odd few days a month that I need it.. I'll buy sim free from apple and wait as long as it takes..no rush as meteor don't have micro sims for phones yet anyway.

€20 per month free texts any network
0.99c per day (i'd use it 7 days out of the month max, mostly using wifi at home anyway)
I make feck all calls, which means I accumulate around €13 credit each month..

Outlay for 16GB iphone is €599.. so I figure I'm saving a few bob this way. Granted I won't be connected to data network 24/7.

Aargh, was going to hold off but now I may join the mad dash for iphone 4 on friday. Are you sure those are for iPhone and not the data sims for iPad..they mentioned over on their Talk forums they'd have two separate kinds of SIM.

Pretty sure I'll move to 3 from O2.

the only issue with this that i can see is that as the iphone 4 uses a micro sim, if say for example you drop your phone, and your iphone has to go off for repair, you will need another phone that takes a micro sim...

or can you get an adaptor that converts from microsim to normal sim size?

    Moving from O2 to 3.

Really poor O2 coverage in our estate in Galway city, so a switch was always on the cards, but really disappointed by Vodafone's pricing. 3 seems fine on the coverage map, but we'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭jamesjoyce

been to the vodafone store in Wexford. Prepay prices for iphone 4 €589 for the 16gb and €689 for the 32gb. The girl in store said they are taking names and will hold reserved phones until 5pm Friday. Don't know how true that is of course or does she know the clamor for demand.

Moving from o2 to 3 when my contract is up in September. Hopefully the phones will be easily available by that stage!

seriously considering going to 3 from vodafone. The 500mb is terrible for monthly data

500mb for some would be enough. I used gmail a good bit on a daily basis, facebook alot and engadget app. Whilst browsing the web too. Always used just under 250mb with the exception of one month where i had a stay in hospital and youtube brought me up to the 300 mb mark. Depends how your using it though i guess

Meteor & 3 are nearly always cheaper than o2, how could your bill go up by switching?

Will buy sim free off the Apple store in the next few weeks and stick with Meteor.

Can't get much worse than we have now. Barely any coverage in the house, just by windows, so the risk beats the status quo for the next 18 months.

As is sod's law, couldn't get hold of any mates on 3 this evening to swing by for a tester :(

I hate to say it, but I'll be changing from O2 to 3.

I've done my sums. I'm going for the €60/month plan and the 16gb iPhone on 3. That will cost €839/year as compared to O2 equivalent package which will cost €919/year. The saving on this package with 3 is about €100 over the 18 month contract, and I'll get the extra free calls to landlines (Sept 2010 to June 2011) with 3.

I'm also guaranteed (hopefully!) an iPhone on Friday, whereas there are no guarantees with O2.

So here's the thing with me.
I have an officially unlocked iPhone on VF - simply 100 and 1gb data add on.
Nice €30 a month. Internet on phone works great and fast. Tethering works great also. Real handy. Work uses VF so handy sometimes to put work sim in the iPhone, plus most people I phone seem to be on VF.
The intention is to go with the iPhone 4 with VF but first of all the price of the 32gb is quite high if I go on the €45 pm tarriff, no prob I says I can deal with it. But now, having looked at the details of the PCA150, I'd have to pay a total of €55 to include tethering (€10 pm)
I don't really want to change networks but it feels like it would kill me to be paying €55 a month when I make most voice calls on my work mobile, and use the iPhone for mobile internet usage and tethering.
A quick round up of the options seem to be -
(I realise the contracts are generally 18 months but I'm just looking at a years worth for now)

    1. VF iPhone and PCA150 plus tethering add on.= €1039
    2. Apple iPhone and the plan that I'm on..........= €1060
    3. '3' iPhone, classic flex and tethering add on..= €1039
    4. o2 iPhone, Advance 150............................= €839 (plan includes tethering?)
(feel free to point out anything majorly wrong with the above figures!)

So on the face of it, it looks like o2 come out winners even if I seem to have some kind of (probably unjustified!) aversion to go with o2!
It would also kinda kill me to fork out €700 straight, for the Apple phone, but on the other hand I really like not being tied to a contract.

    aaarrghh! decisions decisions!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,696 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

You'd be better off on classic flex max , that's 720 for the 18mt, 350 units, 2gb of data and another 2gb as a free extra if you wanted it, no need for a tethering add on as the included 2gb allows you to tether.

Does the 2gb in the 3 "Super-flex max" allow tethering?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,696 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Yea the only time you'd need a separate data add on is for 3mail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭kopite davo

i think it looks like vf have changed their minds and gone back to 2gb data for all their plans, i could be wrong. it ws really bad with the 500mg to 1 gb data plans. vf are always the most expensive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 659 ✭✭✭ToadVine

Apologies for being stupid here, but what do you mean by 3mail, and is tethering included in the 3 "Super-flex max" package?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,696 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Yes the data allows you to tether

Haven't used 3 mail in a few years no idea what it's like these days, it's 3's own pushmail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 865 ✭✭✭Simon201

    mmmm..... thanks drunkmonkey

    I didn't realise that.
So €799 over a year with tethering?

ok... i'm dying to get an iPhone 4, i want to get a pre pay one soo does anyone know how much it might cost? and if i wanted to ditch O2 for Meteor could i get a sim free iPhone 4 ?

    cheers

Hey guys this might seem a silly question to some but is phone insurance included in the price when you take out a contract, I was always sim free till about a year ago and never bothered with insurance, got a nokia n97 last year and went on vodafones simply rolling 30 day contract & took out insurance for €6 a month, I've been looking through the sites and there's no mention of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,696 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

@S, If you went 30 day sim only you could knock another 120 off that and I'm not sure if the porting offer is still going but if it was that would be another 100, 579
for the year if your going to stuggle on with your existing phone..

Be aware if you're getting the iPhone 4 on 3, when the 3G signal is lost the iPhone does not automatically switch back to 3G. You have to manually switch it back. Happens a lot and is quite annoying.

How do you do this? Is a handset switch off/on. It does sound annoying

You have to go into Settings>Carrier>wait for it to search and then select 3 (3G). PITA.

I must keep an eye out for this .. I've not noticed it on my 02 iP3G now, two years on.

I moved from o2 to VF 5 weeks ago when my contract was up. Very bad 3g coverage I find, the Apps I used daily with o2 without issue won't work. Not happy and thinking of going back to o2 now. VF told me they were having problems with 3G all the time and to turn it off !

Could this be happening with VF also?? because when I lose 3G I seem to have to turn off/on my phone to sort it out

Any you expect Threes' coverage to be better? I couldn't get a signal in Dublin CC with Three.

€599 and €699 direct from Apple Sim free apparently. None of the carriers are offering Prepay options at the moment.

Maybe it's the iPhone! We know we've had these problems since the iPone .0 appeared.

I use a modem stick on VF ~ I move around sending heavy data [5mb pictures in blocks of ten or more] since the last update about 9 months ago, I've never lost a file, it goes through all the speeds to no service and picks up again no bother at all.

I don't understand why the iPhone would not do the same thing, is not the service the same? But I don't know, it confuses me why one service would be great and another bad.

because I was so thrilled with my VF Stick Mod in a lappie I was considering changing my contrast for the VF iP4 away from 02, with whom I'm not that pleased with, but from reading these last few posts, VF and the iPhone has the same or even worse problems [with the iP].

Ok, so if you were number 2 on the list in you local VF store, and were pretty much guaranteed to get an Ip4 tomorrow, and avail of the current price plan Perfect Choice Access Plus @ 35euro per mth, would you do it?

Ive had a VF mobile dongle, and when i lived one side of town 3G coverage was crap, the other side of town not so bad, but constant disconnections.
No idea what 3's coverage is like, but its a midlands town, not a city so im guessing it will be worse than VF.

Would you hold on, and risk losing out on the phone tomorrow and possibly losing out on signing up to VF current plan if they dont get any more stock until after Sept 1st??

went into my local 3 shop this morning, asked what the story was in getting phone tomo, he said if you sign up before 2pm today you'll get one tomo morning, the store which will remain anonymous for the moment ! were supposed to be getting 5 units, and so far he had 3 signups, he urged me to run home to get id's etc, so i did and came back about 12, he said the phones just landed in the shop, they got 12 units, we did the paper work, he rang me back about an hour ago saying everything is hunky dory ive been approved for a phone, come in tomo at 8am, and gave me a reference number, those in the que with reference numbers will be allocated the phones first, so im hoping being number 4 to sign up, will guarantee me one, happy days

I asked about doing that, and I was told that Apple weren't actually letting Three hold phones past midnight for people.

So, if anybody is in the queue tonight for Grafton Street, I may be wondering around with a microphone getting sound bites (if I get preregistered) so come and say hi!
