The timetable is in local time, so the walkers are off at 7.05 Irish time. Eurosport is on the air at 7 a.m.

RTE? LOL, you might get an evening highlights show if you are very, very good. And if there's no Golf or Soccer or horse racing to show.

Believe it or not RTE have morning and evening sessions covered live (though not in full).

On the internet? I can't see it on the TV schedules, though I'm a bit thick lately.

Just to make y'all gag, Eurosport is carrying live coverage of the AFRICAN championships from Nairobi TOO! They start on Wednesday.

Rob is certainly aiming far higher than that. Saw him interviewed the other day and he said he is targetting a medal.

    Interesting gambling to be had.

8/11 (William Hill) on Mo Farah for the Mens 10k is WAY too big a price. Nobody in the field close to him in class. 1/4 shot in my book so I'm on.

9/4 on Natalya Antuyk (spelling?) for the 400 hurdles is too big too.

I backed Lewadowski at 5/2 for the 800 before Stan James realised Borza was out but that price gone.

    Anyone else?

Backed borza at 4-1 in boyles before he pulled out, pity as he easily beat all the dangers back at the european cup, thankfully they refund the bet. Piled on mo farah at 8-11 too, crazy price considering he only really has to beat thompson, who he's beaten easily two or three times this year. The 5k is a whole different proposition though and wouldn't touch farah at around 5-4 with espana, bezabeh and sanchez all taking him on fresh. Also backed antyukh at 9-4, feofanova at 6-4, kolchanova at 3-1, ukhov at 11-10. Be cheering on the russians as much as the Irish then! Sadly bluesquare, paddy powers and boyles are all afraid of their sh""" to lay an athletics bet so have had to be look elsewhere!

Ukhov was overpriced alright. I missed the 11/10 though. Silnov isn't competing so anyone with him priced up is just adding dead margin. I'm tempted to go back in on Farah at 4/7. I really think it's a stupidly wrong price. I just struggle to envision any scenario he loses. He is fastest 10k runner on paper, the fastest 5k run and the best 1500 runner. He can win it off a quick pace, off a long kick for home or in a sprint.

Be very careful with Boyles. Their rules state that if ANY listed runner fails to compete, they can void the whole market and create a new one. They will apply their rules to suit themselves too. I have had to threaten IBAS a couple of times.

Any opinion on the 100? I think Chambers is the right favorite but I had a piece of 9/4 on leMaitre with Sportinbet the other day. I think that was too big.

Can't wait for the championship to start tomorrow morning. The lead Russian guy is not on the start list for the 20k walk, so that makes it a bit easier for Heffernan.

Not normally a fan of the 100 & 200 but am looking forward to Chambers V Lemaitre. Am expecting another dominant display from Jessica Ennis on her way to 2012. It's gonna be the first major championship in a good few years without Isinbayeva on the start list, looking forward to her return.

I hope we get a few medals but it is not going to be easy. The walkers, Derval, Hession and Gillick should be in with a shout. Men's 400 for me has the most depth, there is 5/6 guys capable of winning a medal.

BTW does anyone know why Ledwith did not take part in the nationals. Surely he would have been capable of running 29mins on the track to get the euro standard.

The 100 is a toughie, chambers the rightful favourite, think he's good for a 9.95ish in barca given good conditions, but then again, there's a good chance Lemaitre can manage that too, think it's a 60-40 for chambers, but then again lemaitre is like a progressive 2-year-old in racing, he could be anything really so is tough to take a side. 9-4 certainly value though.
Think you're spot on with farah, seems like a 1-3 shot, it's almost the fear of 25 laps in the heat (albeit 9pm heat) that you'd be afraid of, but yeah, none of them have a 3.33 1500, and i reckon he'd be good for sub-27 if he wanted to do it earlier in the season, so i just can't see a situation where he loses. Him and thompson are good friends too so you can bet they'll set it up and pace it ideally for a 1-2 for them.
Another silly price is kolchanova in womens long jump, was 4-1, now 3s (:D) , recent russian champ and improving as her teammate kucherenko goes backwards, and they somehow dream up naide gomes as favourite, with a very mediocre best of 6.80 this year and an extremely unreliable championship record. I'd have to be frogmarched down to the bookies at gunpoint before i backed her at 6-4. Total dud favourite.

Heartbreak for Rob, just 11 secs away from the medal that he richly deserved.
Looked good with 5km to go, saw him blow a kiss to the crowd probably to his lovely wife.
Lets not forget Jamie Costin coming in 20th ;)

Excellent performance. He'll no doubt be disappointed, but he's no finished top ten in the Olympics, Europeans and World Champs. Excellent record. Wonder will he give the 50km a lash?

I'd say he will, unless the race this morning took a huge amount out of him.
only one person predicted a 4th place finish for Rob! Storming into an early lead.

Brona Furlong with a SB in her heat and Kinney just outside her life time best. Both good performances as they were always gonna be put up against it in these heats

Mixing up Furlong with Carey. Carey had an SB, but Furlong hit the last and was outside 58.

Gillick through nicely, Kennedy currently in a fastest loser spot, Gregan up now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭SitUbuSit

Looks likely Kennedy will qualify - 2nd fastest (46.63) at the moment of 4 fastest qualifiers with only one heat left.

Gregan, unfortunately is out with a 46.90. I didn't realise Gregan was quite as ragged a runner as he looked on screen - an awful lot of rockin' and rollin' - but he's a great prospect for the future if he can work on his technique and build on his success.

Still a decent 4x400m team in the reckoning!

I have the eurosport stream open for the commentary but the rte stream has better picture quality so ive got the two of them open at once. There's about a 1 second lag

Poor run from Kennedy. Maybe he was distracted by the fact that there was actually sun and therefore actually needed sunglasses this time.
