Hi, I have little or no willpower when it comes to exercise and become demotivated very quickly particularly when it comes to cardio.i need someone to give me a good kick up behind and get me moving :).I am not a member of a gym at present having been away for the year.. I am thinking that i will go along the route of getting a personal trainer for about 4-5months.I figure that a trainer would train me how to do thigs properly and enable me to keep it up afterwards. How much would this cost? Would i need to be a member of a gym and employ a trainer in gym?..If anyone has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it..i will be in dublin city

Pay someone to show you how to run / bike / row properly? It sounds to me like you are almost trying to pay someone to get fit for you. My advice is just set yourself some short term goals first - go for a few runs this week ( Monday tomorrow is always a good day to start). Maybe get a training buddy to motivate each other. Is your diet ok? Sort yourself out first before spending on a pt. No one will do it for you and a good pt won't work with you anyway
if you show no interest. Start small , 1 week, 3 weeks, etc etc. I'll even start by saving you a bit of money on a pt. GO FOR A RUN NOW. GO. ( incidentally that's 75 euro please)

I'd recommend Dominic Munnelly, aka "Transform" on boards.ie, and not just because he's my friend. He's very good on the motivation side of things, and knows what he's talking about.

    His site is www.thetransformationcatalyst.com

Out of interest, is there a database of Personal Trainers in Ireland available anywhere? I've googled for one but all I can find are organisations set up PT companies and the trainers they recommend etc.

Is there a database of independent personal trainers available?

    Nope.
There is an industry one allegedly in the pipeline by ILAM but that will be more so for insdustry by industry.
It will probably only cover NCEHS, NCEF graduates so that hotels, leisure centres have a database for recruitment.
Also thus providing more income for the course providers with their 'CPD'...

I think it was meant to be this but he mixed up the paragraphs.

Yes that is what I meant. I think a certain amount of coaxing and pushing is to be expected but in the end the will to work must ultimately come from the person themselves

i think personal trainers are a great idea but ask to see there credentials before signing up . i have one who has a degree in sports science and he is worth every penny i spend with him .Have learnt so much in terms of technique and diet . Worth it i would say but do your research their are muppets out there.

www.personaltrainerireland.com is one source for finding trainers... I can't really think of another offhand...
