Heard nothing myself, but that would be class.
Will be heading out myself if the weather is decent. For all you aviation photographers, I've been going the last 2 years and find the best vantage point to be up on Bray head at that little park area

Yeah, Heard this 2 weeks ago.

One or two fast jets mentioned as well (so I heard)

What time would you recommend on getting there to get a good spot? If the weather is nice thinking of making the drive from Clare.

Ive talked to someone about this and they usually know their stuff ( he does;) ) but even he is out in the cold about this!

Didnt hear a whisper about fast air but 2 B52H's would be good im not going but id love some shots, id imagine its probably going to be a formation fly by either once or one N-S and then S-N and back Stateside.

If its the two im thinking about it will be "MT" and "LA" from Fairford.

Expect massive traffic tailbacks, definitally taking the motorbike to this one. :)

Seen the black knights doing a practice run yesterday (friday) over bray, there was a chopper circling for a while before they jumped.

any more info on the B-52s? time? sunday afternoon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭ian_m

I would recommend, if coming from South Dublin park at (or any station after) Glenageary and get the DART. If coming from North Wicklow park at Greystones and you will avoid any traffic. Usually just heavy from Loughlinstown onwards.

There is loads of space along the seafront for decent views. Keep your eye out for Eddie. Last year he almost took the tops off our ice creams when he appeared. :pac:

Forecast is good for tomorrow, slightly cloudy but warm with little or no wind.

Would Bray Head be too far south for a good perspective? I would climb up if I thought it would be worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭foxy06

I think you would get a better view from the beach. Never been up the head for it but its all aimed at the people on the seafront so would say its the best spot.

    Thanks for that, Foxy06.

I have never been to Bray but from seeing previous C-17A Shots id expect a flyby at that height.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭foxy06

Was down at the beach today and they were practising. can't tell you the names of the planes unfortunately but we saw 2 different helicopters and 2 different airplanes. They all came very close to the beach and there was a fair crowd just to watch the practice. I was very impressed anyway.

If your from Bray would be a good idea to walk or get the bus tommorrow because the traffic will be mental and parking next to impossible.

There is definitely at least 1 B52 due tomorrow.

But you know yourselves these things can never be guaranteed.

Really pissed that I'm gonna miss it this year! If there are any pics floating around after the weekend, it'd be deadly if someone linked!:D

And I agree with the posters about parking. Theres a pretty big car park out here in gresytones just behind the council offices and a adult return from Gstones to Bray is 2.30.

I'd really like to see that Bucceneer at Weston get fired up :)
I was out at Weston the other day and got two, not so exciting pictures of the Matador's.
I'll photobucket them and edit them into this sometime soon :)

Your not the only one, her Airborne days are long long gone, she has been a Gate Guardian at RAF Bases over the years, XV863 has quite a history, i believe she onl has the capability to fold the wings, but i think thats manually.

Getting off-topic, I know, but here is a detailed history of the Weston Bucc:

    http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/S2_XV863_files/S2_xv863.html

This aircraft is also significant in that on 27 November 1978 it was the last Buccaneer launched from a carrier (HMS Ark Royal).

Is there another B52 doing a flyby later on Steyr?? Seemed the show was starting late, I leave my vantage point and go to PC, read your post about skull ETA 15:40, look at watch to see its 15:45.......Bolllliiiixxxx!! :D Leg it back up and see arse of B52 flying off into distance. Didn't look too low or close to shore tbh though. Not as impressive as the c17 in previous years.

Delighted I saw it. Approximately 345pm. came in towards killiney hill, dropped low to 1000ft and sharpish turn up the coast past bray strand, then climbed out to 5000ft heading 140. and bye bye. savage machine

Saw it when I was on the DART passing killiney.

Yes slightly boring in places but the pace was steady and no gaps between displays. All of the aircraft were similar and all performed similar manoeuvres.

Eddie Goggin and The Red Bull Matadors were excellent. The B52 appearance was succinct. Overall it wasn't a bad show.

Just a couple of questions though. I noticed that some aircraft entered and exited to and from the South behind Bray Head, with a tight transition between displays. Is it not normal practice for aircraft to exit from the opposite side of entry?

Also, does the flight director get appointed by the IAA or how does he get the job?

Thanks to all involved, in case you are reading.

Those pictures are awesome. Kudos to the photographer. Really caught the low level characteristics of the fly pass. Fair play.

This show was pretty crap, if you did not attend don't worry you did not miss much..Once the B52 left everyone was leaving...The B52 was the only thing worth looking at.
