was shopping in Debenhams today, served by a good looking girl, but the thought entered my head, 'I wonder what she really looks like'? Don't get me wrong, she still looked good and the make up wasn't o.t.t., but I was clearly looking at her make up and not her own natural complexion. I wonder what that's like;)

Nope, I look like myself but a bit better, unless I go really OTT with the eyeliner and MAC eyeshadow and do a really bright look, which I only do about twice a year. My eyelashes/eyebrows are naturally black and my skin is naturally olive so day to day make-up doesn't make a huge amount of difference.

I do use makeup subtly, but there's a striking difference when I have it on. Merest hint of eyeliner does wonders !

I always think that I look really tired without any makeup!

    Me too.

my skin looks a bit brighter when I have foundation on, I never go OTT for day to day and most people can't tell when I am wearing make up until I glam up the eyes!!

I look like a completely different person without make up. Hence I rarely go outside without any on, don't want to scare away children!

Yep, I have really uneven skin tone and purple bags under my eyes... I just don't feel comfortable without some foundation on. I don't slap it on, once I apply in the morning its there for the rest of the day, even if i'm going out later on.

I like to think of make-up being used to enhance what you already have.

I look pretty much exactly the same. I wear foundation that is the same colour as my skin, not 3 shades darker like some people wear. Only look different when I wear lots of eye make-up...which is only when I go out because I've very sensitive eyes. The odd time I wear mascara to work and people say I look different, because my eyelashes are so fair usually.

I look different as well..I have tiny eyes, and used t wear glasses, but now wth contacts I have horrible purple-y undereyes and I look shattered without mascara and concealer. Even my own mother comments on it and she never ever wore or wears make up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

I don't think I look that different tbh. If I wear a lot of eye make up I might look different, but when it comes to foundation and stuff, I pretty much look the same with or without... I think! I often don't wear make up, and my friends have never once commented on it so I'm guessing that they just don't notice any difference.

I look completely different. It's because I add a lot of defintion to my eyes by using make up - eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow pencil. The rest isn't so important, it just evens out tone etc. I love how you can look how you want to with make up on, every day you can look different.

I don't wear a lot of make-up, or wear it everyday. When I do, I keep it subtle and stick to neutral shades. No blues, purples, greens.

I look a little older when I have it on, and as said before a bit less tired if I'm below par. This is usually a good thing.:)

I dont wear makeup everyday either.. Usually only if I am going out or with friends or going to town or whatever.. I dont look that different either.. my eyes are small so I dont use eyeliner and usually stick to neutral shaded eyeshadows and I dont layer on mascara.. I look tired I think without it!

Lol. i was going to post the exact same thing about me going out without makeup scaring children!

My skin looks a bit blotchy without it and cos Im fair the bit of colour helps.

Without make-up I look tired, ill and pale (and scary! :()

With make-up I look much better. I don't plaster the make-up on, but the little bit I do wear make's me look better. Also, I have a lot of spots/blemishes and like to cover them over.

I only ever wear make up when I'm going out. I feel weird wearing make up during the day! and even when I'm going out I don't put too much on either haha. I look fine without it cos I have dark eyebrows and eyelashes and all. my skin is fine can be a bit pathy sometimes though. my eyes do look much much nicer with a bit of eye make up though :)

I look very tired without my face on, dark circles under my eyes so I wear make up most days. I do look a lot different when I put my glam face on. Most day I keep it light and simple.

I used to find that when I wore makeup regularly - red blotches but it cleared up once I stuck with being makeup free for a while.
    Not for everyone though !

There was a thread in the Ladies Lounge a while back on that very topic. Lots of girls posted photos of themselves with and without make up. I have to say though, most of the girls were naturally pretty without it so it probably wasn't as big a deal for a lot of them to post photos without their slap on as it would be for others.

My own family see me without any make-up maybe three times a year.
I went out without any the other day and they asked if I'd been starving myself/taking coke.
I personally don't think I so different aside from skintone, I'd be white without blush and a little bronzer.

People only notice if i dont wear eye make up as my eyelashes are very fakr, but other than that i can generally get away with it

I look tireder and paler without my make up. I enjoy putting it on in the morning and I like the way it can make my look.

I work as a sales consultant so I want to look good to the customers. Sometimes I put on some mad colored eye shadow but I do enjoy playing with colors! :)

I often go out without my make up, if I'm going to college or something. But, last week I was told by a few people that I "looked like death" so I guess I better start putting it on for college! It's what early mornings and late nights do to your face! :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

I look significantly different without make-up - to the extent that once, a guy who had just started in the same workplace as me thought Dudess without make-up and Dudess with make-up a few days later on a staff night out... were two different people. :D

Although I don't really wear foundation (occasionally a bit of neutral stuff or tinted moisturiser) so my skin tone is pretty much the same, and I don't wear lippy either, just a tiny bit of lip-liner. It's mostly just down to eye make-up. I love how that can completely transform a pair of peepers.

I'm not unhappy with how I look without make-up - I'm lucky enough to have clear skin - but it definitely makes me look a good bit better.

I look the same. I have very big eyes so they stand out without any makeup at all. Most days I wear either dark eye makeup, or bright turquoise/purple/green- but if I came into work without it, no one would even notice.
It's a bit annoying, I'd love to be one of those girls who looked totally different!

Here is a funny video you all might like. The difference in this girl is unreal. She's not ugly, but definitely on the plain side without makeup. The video is tongue-in-cheek, but from what I can tell, she is a dancer/stripper/some sort of nudey job in real life.

Sometimes if I wake up in the morning my hair's a mess and I've no make up on I actually look ill.:pac:
I'm really pale and have that annoying purple under my eyes, then when summer rolls around there's freckles too so I wear it most of the time when I'm going somewhere.
Not loads though, but if I'm going out I go all out on make up,not OTT though but I wouldn't usually use blusher/highlighter/concealer/bronzer on a normal day, only when going out mostly.
    Normally it's just,foundation,eyeliner and mascara.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

I actually think the girl in that video is really pretty without the makeup. I look bad with or without makeup:(:( but I do wear it every day but am not good at putting it on really!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭Delicate_Dlite

I look like a different person without make-up! I'm very pale, dark circles and moderate acne. My family see me without make-up, every so ofte, early mornings and such. But no-one else. I do go for my morning run without it, but never see anyone, so it's not an issue. Apart from that I don't leave the house without it.

And as for with/without pic, only women who are confident with their looks without will post so though it may be interesting, it's not a balanced sample.

Hehe, I forgot I posted in there! Nothing much has changed, except I have to define my brows more now as my hair is darker. If I'm only popping to the shops I won't bother with any makeup.

For work and the like I'll do my brows/ mascara and a very light dusting of Benefit Hello Flawless just to even out my skin tone a bit. If I'm going out for the night I'll slick on some black liquid liner and maybe some red lippy :) Still have to have mascara every day, due to my blonde lashes if I go without my eyes look like two p**sholes in the snow :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 473 ✭✭sunshine rose

I don't think I look totally unrecognizable without my makeup but I like to define my eyes and eyebrows so my face does look empty without the eyeliner and mascara because I'm so used to it!

I'm quite pale and wear paleish foundation so not too much difference there.

It's mad though how I'm nearly more used to how I look with my makeup on than with it off! Thats not good!!
It's probably because theres always some remains of black on the eyes when I wake up!:p

It's mostly my eyes that are different, I think. I use foundation to even out my skin tone, but it's close to my real skin colour. I hardly use concealer as a result. It's my eyes I care most about though. My eyelashes are quite pale and my eyes are big and hooded, so I need mascara and eyeliner to look normal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

I don't put on huge amounts of make up so I don't think I look that different. Obviously it'll help to conceal the purple bags under my eyes and even out my skin tone, but other than that there's not that much of a difference. My eye lashes are quite dark and long naturally, so I don't normally use mascara unless I'm heading for a major night out on the town or to something very dressy. I'll normally wear either brown, nude or green eyeshadow, or purple or something brighter if I'm heading out for the night. But even on a night out I wouldn't really wear a huge amount of makeup. I prefer something that looks quite natural so I don't really go for the whole 'made up' look.

I have no idea what I look like *with* make-up on, I haven't even thought about it in years.

I don't think I look like a different person, just a heightened version of myself :p More even skin tone, eyes and cheekbones look more defined, and with the glorious help of a pencil I can have proper eyebrows! Score.

This pisses me off. You see a girl and she looks decent but when the slap comes off she has all sorts of issues. I look great without makeup so why can't they?

I'm guessing that most are just fairly unhealthy and mask their deficiencies with makeup.

I think I look like a different person without it, because my eyebrows are blonde and have been bleached to nothing by the sun so I dont even have eyebrows before I do my makeup.... and my skin is so pale my skin tones are purpley, so I always always wear makeup so I dont look like a dead person:)

    I have no eyebrows either!

I think I look different when i have makeup. Most people ask me am I sick when I don't have makeup on.

I don't have the 'can't leave the house without makeup on' mentality though. I couldn't careless most of the time :)

When it comes to makeup, I think the trick is to enhance as opposed to transform. Well, for me it is anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Sapsorrow

Oh I look completely different unfortunately, like a pastey eyebrowless crab eyed ginga ninja! Thank god for makeup is all I can say wouldn't be caught dead without it! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 697 ✭✭✭chocgirl

I very rarely go out without make-up. So very few people see me without it. I don't look very different, I'm a bit paler and tend to look very young without it which makes me fell a bit vulnerable particularly in work. My eyes are the thing I'd miss most, I wear tonnes of mascara and would feel naked without it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭panda100

I think it depends on how I do my makeup. On Saturday night I did really smoky eyes and I looked completly different from my normal self.
I don't think the make up I wear day to day alters me dramatically. My friends and boyfirends say I look the same but I always feel a lot more confident when I have makeup on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭abrr1000

I look sickly pale compared to the rest of my body and you can see spot marks - makes me look much younger. I dont mind not wearing it if i'm having a lazy day and staying at home or just going to the local shop..but anywhere else I have to have the face on - even just foundation and a light sweep of blush to look alive ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Joan Fontaine

I don't think I look dramatically different, but I'm definitely a LOT prettier with make up on. I don't wear loads or anything, but if I don't mind saying so myself I'm very good at applying make up which allows me to get the best out of myself.

That said, I really don't mind if I'm seen without make up, like, I'd go to the shops and run errands without it. Would rarely go to work though in naked-make-up form :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭fonpokno

Make up just really even out skin tone for me and hides my gigantic pores and any blotchiness that may be there.Doesn't make me look any different really, just smoother! :)

Same as myself. I look very different when I've got a lot of eye make up on + blusher wheras during the day it's just a quick dab of eye liner and then some vaseline and a light foundation.

I look far better with make on than without that's for sure. It's the eye liner that makes all the difference for me.
