I was swimming away yesterday evening, happy out, letting my mind wander and stray wherever it wanted to. Anyway, I was thinking about cake, and as I often do when training, I was thinking of the crew here on Boards and just different peoples training and goals etc. Anyway, the 2 thoughts combined and then I got to wondering, what is yer favourite cake? Random I know, but if you'd like to humour me, answer the poll below! :)

sorry but I've never given the recipe to anyone, dont feel it is mine to give and as it is the best carrot cake recipe, I feel it must be treated with respect. Haven't even given the recipe to the bf, or his mother who is constantly looking for it.

I would deem chocolate biscuit cake and rocky road as almost the same thing, they are when I make them anyway!

    Hmmm, Cake!

Banoffi, Chocolate, fruit, sponge, marble ....

How the heck am I supposed to choose?

And how the heck am I supposed to concentrate on work for the rest of the day?

I think one of the reasons I took up running was to eat as much cake as I want, guilt-free. That, and ice cream. And chocolate. And ...

Damn! Look what you've done! Now I'm drooling!

I wanted to vote for all the cakes- cakes are on of the reasons that I am now running, it makes me feel better about myself when I am eating cake. Having said that I haven't eaten any cake in about 3 weeks. I may treat myself this weekend.

Banoffi, Chocolate, fruit, sponge, marble ....

there recently I came across an uber tasty marble cake recipe. growing up, we used to just make it by adding choc powder to half the mix (amateur when I look back!) Now, the marble/choc layer is melted dark chocolate, poured in between two layers of the plain mix. Oh and I also add frozen raspberries........ deeevine!!!

    mouth watering now? :)

Chocolate biscuit ! especially with a drop of rum and lots of golden syrup (of that old fashioned green tin, otherwise it's not the same).

    1 slice=10miles.

I prefer baileys in my biscuit cake. the bit of alcohol gives it a lovely gentle kick.

also, melt a mint crisp, and drizzle on top - its a lovely surprise when you bite in to it then.

as for 1 slice = 10miles? So worth it! nom nom nom :)

    Hmmm......Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

Really all of the choices, but in a vote...chocolate wins hands down!!

Now I think I understand why I'm now a stone heavier than when I was running my best times. ...............Having you cake and eating it....I don't think

I keep on trying to wean myself off chocolate and biscuits...and want to lose a good deal of that stone before Dublin.....but keep succumbing to temptation.

...now that chocolate has come to mind...off for another nibble :o

Went for the popular choice of chocolate biscuit.

Not wanting to bring this thread back on topic with the forum, but fruit cake is fantastic for carb loading before a marathon. Specifically tea cake / Maltana. Got through one and a half loaves of Superquinn tea cake in the two days before London.

    Okay, back off topic now.....

I'm holding you to that - deliverable to me in UL. Never had chocolate biscuit cake.

Every year as a kid though i got a black forest. I have a many fond memory of having some cake for brekkie on my birthday, then some after lunch, for and after dinner and then finishing it off before bed. It would always be from that bakery where the newmans camera shop is on in cruises street now.

You certainly have a point. I was used to 4 or 5 hour non-stop rides with my racing buddies, but when I lived in Oregon I fell in with a bunch of mainly recreational cyclists who would start out at 8am, ride hard for two hours, then descend en masse upon a coffee chop and commit mass murder on a host of helpless muffins, scones, and slices of cake, all washed down with pints of mocha, before remounting and riding on to the next stop. Being the US, all portions were twice as big as normal. I've never seen anything like it, and I'm a hungry barsteward at the best of times.

    Their motto:"we ride to eat!"
