Possibly but a lot of the main guys seem to like a week off after a major so this week might not have attracted any better field.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Ya agreed some pro's do alright but looking at the two tournaments being played this week in Canada and Scandinavia there are Villegas, Donald, Casey, Goosen, O'Hair and Tim Clark in Canada.

And Karlsson, Molinari, Rickie Fowler, Oosthuizen, Dunstin Johnsson and KJ Choi in Europe, If a tournament the size of the Scandinavian Masters can attract players like above then i would imagine the the Irish open could at least match it.
Suppose we should be counting our blessings that we have any tournament to watch at all next week.

ya its true, would have been good to get the like of either Johnson or Fowler next week.
You'd be hoping for the Irish lads to do well next week and keep the interest going into the weekend

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Agreed, if there isnt any irish in contention it will be bad for the sponsors as there isnt enough big name player to keep the fans interested.

When you consider the Irish Open is worth almost twice that of this weeks Scandanavian Masters the Swede's have managed a strong field. I'd have liked to have seen the likes of Casey, Donald & Goosen teeing it up at the Irish Open.

It is timing again.

WGC and PGA the following weeks in USA players probably prefer to be ready for them.

Irish Open has suffered a good bit from bad positions in the calendar.

He is resting, pulled out before the Open. He will be back for the WGC next week.

no such thing asa reliable tip in golf, only an informed tip
It's going to be a bit wet but the wind shouldn't be too bad,up to 20 mph at worst

It's gonna be a birdie fest,i expect around 16-20 under to win once the wind doesn't go mad,i'll give ya 2 obvious one's and a slight outsider,Justin Rose at 16/1 is not a bad price with his recent form

As finding greens won't be too hard on such a short course putting will play an even bigger part than usual, best putter on tour has to be Rhys Davis@28/1 is a fair price

At a slightly bigger price recent tour winner David Horsey @66/1 worth a few quid e/w,he's top 5 in driving accuracy and has a good iron game that should suit this course

I'm not backing Rory or Fran Molinari as i think they both still have a few putting problems, greens won't be hard to find this week, what seperates Rory and the likes normally is their ability to hit more greens than most because of their great ball striking, this course imo should level the playing field and once the weather isn't too bad it could turn in to a putting comp,on a sidenote the par 5's are soo short most of the players can reach them in 2

Saw the news article last night about Killarney and the Open

I remember the flooding back in Nov

WELL DONE to all the green keeping staff ( and who ever ) who got the course back to the way it is now , I hope the weather is kind and that the Kingdom is shown to the world in it's best light

My two selections for this week:
Justin Rose: Superb season thus far and confidence is high. Coming here with a mission and has the game to carry it out. 14/1 e/w
Robert Rock: A very consistent season with six top tens. A bit of a hangover from the Open missing the cut last week. I expect him to bounce back and at 50/1 he looks a value e/w bet.

Yeah noticed that, field of 150 instead of 156 to squeeze them all in?

Completely agree. One of the biggest prize funds and only really the top Irish guys to shout about. Very disappointing indeed. I thought they re-scheduled to try and attract a stronger field than last year. That didn't work out very well then. Looking forward to watching on TV over the weekend but guys like Kaymer, Westwood, Casey, Poulter, Stenson, Schwartzel, Oosthuizen, etc, etc will surely be missed.

So did I but the european tour and irish open organisers failed.

Need to find a new date next year.

It will be hard to attract a new sponsor if 3 drop it with the field they are pulling in.

The slot on the calender while a good weekend for irish people wanting to got to watch the golf is probably a bad slot for the top pros.
The open only 2 weeks ago, Bridgestone next week with USPGA the following week. For example if Oosthuizen had played this week it would be his 6th consecutive week by the time the next major started.

That was the thinking. Considering it is one of the most valuable pots on the European Tour the field is a big disappointment.

Wouldn't be great, probably at least 20 regular tour members in top 50.

Does anyone know if I can just turn up on the Sunday or do I need to buy a ticket in advance? Not a golf fan myself but my b/f is a golf enthusiast so think it would be a nice surprise :) Similarly, do ye think parking will be an issue?

Heading down for the Thursday, cant wait. Harrington, GMac and Damien McGrane at 12.25 is my intended group to follow, though I get the feeling every other fan on the course has the same plan :o Dont fancy gettin up at something like 6am to catch the Clarke McIlroy group :)

The 9th tee is even further way than the 10th and the 11th is down by the 10th green in a corner of the course thats near the lake.

Even with carts it would be awarkward to get out to these holes. You would have to cross probably 4 holes if not 5 to get to some of these holes.

Looking forward to seeing Tour Golf live again... didn't go to Baltray last year but loved Adare the previous two years.
Planning on heading down from Kilkenny Thursday morning to watch Gary Murphy who tees off at 1:35. Staying over Thursday night and then out at 9:15 Friday morning.
No plans made yet for the weekend :o

Yeah you'll have no problem getting in off the cuff on Sunday.

I've been to the Irish Open a good half dozen times and never had to buy a ticket, there are always loads of corporates and freebies about.

I reckon you should pop into a 3 shop and chance your arm, they should have loads of free tickets to give away.

You might have to buy a RTG sim card or something but it's still worth it if you can manage to charm them.
